Anxiety surges as Donald Trump may be indicted soon: Why 2024 is 'the final battle' and 'the big one'

WASHINGTON – It looks like American politics is entering a new age of anxiety, triggered by an unprecedented legal development: The potential indictment of a former president and current presidential candidate.

Donald Trump's many legal problems – and calls for protests by his followers – have generated new fears of political violence and anxiety about the unknowable impact all this will have on the already-tense 2024 presidential election

I’ll reframe this is a more accurate way, Are Presidents above the law? This new age was spurred into existence when home grown dummies elected a corrupt, mentally ill, anti-democratic, would be dictator as President and don’t bother to hold him responsible for his crimes, don’t want to because in the ensuing mayhem and destruction, they think they will be better off. The man is actually advocating violence (not the first time). And btw, screw democracy too. If this feeling spreads, we are In deep shirt.

This goes beyond one treasonous Peice of work and out to all his minions. This is on you or should we be sympathetic to the idea of they can’t help being selfish suckers to the Nation’s detriment? Donald Trump is the single largest individual threat to our democracy and it‘s all going to boil down to will the majority of the GOP return to his embrace and start slinging his excrement to support him?

That is the worst Thanksgiving post I’ve ever read. Has there ever been a more bitter and spiteful person than Trump?! He makes the bad Ebenezer Scrooge look like a charming man!

Donald Trump’s pardon of loan shark Jonathan Braun on his last day in office in 2021“destroyed” a Department of Justiceinvestigation, according to a report.

Braun was convicted of running an illegal marijuana cartel. He was one of the 142, including rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black, who were issued surprise pardons by Mr Trump in the waning hours of his presidency.

At the time of his pardon, Braun had served a quarter of his ten-year sentence.

The commutation of his sentence reportedly dealt a “substantial blow” to the Justice Department’s criminal investigation that was aimed at members of the predatory lending industry who harmed small businesses.

The New York Times report added that the commutation “destroyed” any leverage the government had in the investigation.

The report also revealed ties between Braun and Jared Kushner and his father Charles Kushner in guiding the pardon proposal for Trump.……

WASHINGTON (AP) — Campaigning in Iowa this year, Donald Trump said he was prevented during his presidency from using the military to quell violence in primarily Democratic cities and states.

Calling New York City and Chicago “crime dens,” the front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination told his audience, “The next time, I’m not waiting. One of the things I did was let them run it and we’re going to show how bad a job they do,” he said. “Well, we did that. We don’t have to wait any longer.”

Trump has not spelled out precisely how he might use the military during a second term, although he and his advisers have suggested they would have wide latitude to call up units. While deploying the military regularly within the country’s borders would be a departure from tradition, the former president already has signaled an aggressive agenda if he wins, from mass deportations to travel bans imposed on certain Muslim-majority countries.

A law first crafted in the nation’s infancy would give Trump as commander in chief almost unfettered power to do so, military and legal experts said in a series of interviews.

The Insurrection Act allows presidents to call on reserve or active-duty military units to respond to unrest in the states, an authority that is not reviewable by the courts. One of its few guardrails merely requires the president to request that the participants disperse.

“The principal constraint on the president’s use of the Insurrection Act is basically political, that presidents don’t want to be the guy who sent tanks rolling down Main Street,” said Joseph Nunn, a national security expert with the Brennan Center for Justice. “There’s not much really in the law to stay the president’s hand.”…….

Trump is saying out loud that he will turn the U.S. into an authoritarian military state. Many people clearly want an authoritarian state. The question everyone needs to ask any Trump supporter is why do they want a strongman? Then follow it up with what will happen when he starts doing things you don't like? No one will be able to vote him out. It would probably take a bloody coup to remove him, and then there is no guarantee that the replacement will be any better. Do they see a country with an authoritarian government in which they would rather live?

NEW YORK (AP) — Former President Donald Trumpthreatened over the weekend to reopen the contentious fight over the Affordable Care Act after failing to repeal it while in the White House, saying he is “seriously looking at alternatives” if he wins a second term.

Trump’s comments drew rebuke from Democratic President Joe Biden ‘s campaign, which cast them as another “extremist” proposal from the GOP front-runner.

“Donald Trump’s America is one where millions of people lose their health insurance and seniors and families across the country face exorbitant costs just to stay healthy. Those are the stakes next November,” said Biden-Harris 2024 spokesperson Ammar Moussa in a statement.

The back-and-forth points to what could be a key issue in a general election rematch between Trump and Biden if both win their parties’ nominations as widely expected.…..

Taika Waititi recalled the “list of demands” Donald Trump had for his brief appearance in NBC’s 2012 Brotherhood of Man commercial that aired during the 46th Super Bowl.

The former US President, who at the time was the host of the US version of The Apprentice, made a cameo in the network’s musical advertisement alongside other NBC stars, including 30 Rock’s Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey, The Office’s Steve Carell and Parenthood’s Lauren Graham.

On a recent episode of the Smartless podcast – hosted by actors Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes – Waititi, who directed the commercial, remembered that “there was a piece of paper with a list of [Trump’s] demands”.

“The height of the camera had to be a certain height to make him look a little thinner,” the New Zealand filmmaker and actor recounted.

“I think it had whatever the Pantone for orange was that he had to appear as on screen,” he joked. “He had a makeup person who was also his ego booster and she would touch him up and say, ‘Oh, Mr Trump, oh Mr Trump.’”……

Former President Donald Trump and his loyal friend, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, seem to be promoting a different version of events after Mr Trump was booed at the South Carolina football game.

While videos captured Mr Trump being met with a cacophony of boos as he walked onto the field during halftime, he quickly tried to revise the incident.

On Truth Social, he reposted articles that said the crowds showed support. He posted one article alongside a quote, which read: “Trump cheered at football stadium, picks up slew of new endorsements in South Carolina.”

The former president posted in another post: “A Hero’s Welcome – President Trump Upstages Nikki Haley in South Carolina at Palmetto Bowl.”

Ms Greene also tried to rewrite the news of his poor reception.

“Trump is WINNING and the people love him!” the Georgia Republican tweeted. “Joe Biden couldn’t stay up late enough to go to a football game let alone have this massive cheering crowd for him.”……

Such a weak man. This reminds me I saw an interview of a journalist who had recently been on Trump‘s campaign plane and he reported that the entire plane burst into applause whenever Trump boarded after a rally speech, even if he had made several gaffes.

Robert De Niro said that his speech at the Gotham awards in New York was censored without his knowledge due to his anti-Trump comments.

De Niro came to the stage as part of the Gotham historical icon and creator tribute for the Martin Scorsese-directed Killers of the Flower Moon, and after reading out some remarks about the film, said that the first part of his speech had been removed from the prompter.

He then read the missing section of the speech from his phone, saying: “History isn’t history any more. Truth is not truth. Even facts are being replaced by alternative facts and driven by conspiracy theories and ugliness. In Florida, young students are taught that slaves developed skills which can be applied for their personal benefit. The entertainment industry isn’t immune to this festering disease. The Duke, John Wayne, famously said of Native Americans, I don’t feel we did wrong in taking this great country away from them. There were great numbers of people who needed new land and the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.”

De Niro added: “Lying has become just another tool in the charlatan’s arsenal. The former president lied to us more than 30,000 times during his four years in office, and he’s keeping up the pace in his current campaign of retribution. But with all his lies, he can’t hide his soul. He attacks the weak, destroys the gifts of nature, and shows disrespect – for example by using ‘Pocahontas’ as a slur.”

De Niro then refused to thank the film’s backers, Apple, referring to the removal of part of his speech: “I don’t feel like thanking them at all for what they did. How dare they do that, actually.”…..

Donald Trump is threatening to use his second term in office to attack Americans using the military.

Presidential historian Michael Beschloss appeared on MSNBC's "The Beat With Ari Melber," guest hosted by Katie Phang, to elicit a stark warning.

"All I'm saying is: Watch out."

If Trump becomes the 47th president, Bechloss believes there is going to be a severe danger of instituting the Insurrection Act and putting soldiers on missions to police American soil.

During a rally in Iowa, the 2024 Republican frontrunner described the metropolises of New York City and Chicago as “crime dens” and vowed to move fast to bring in the country's military might.

“The next time, I’m not waiting," he said. "One of the things I did was let them run it and we’re going to show how bad a job they do,” he said. “Well, we did that. We don’t have to wait any longer.”

Beschloss says we should be taking Trump at his word.

"Presidents in the United States have too much power," he said. "Thus far, we've relied on the fact we've had people like George H.W. Bush or Dwight Eisenhower who know it's the possibility of the president to be restrained in using power such as martial law or the Insurrection Act."............

In a Veterans Day speech, Donald Trump didn’t limit his comments to honoring those who, unlike his draft-dodging self, served this nation to protect its democracy. Instead he went full-on fascist as he vowed to “root out” those he assailed as “the radical left thugs that live like vermin within the confines of our country.”

A week later, after it was announced that Rosalynn Carter, the former first lady, had entered hospice care, Trump took a swipe at President Biden during a rally — by mocking former president Jimmy Carter’s White House tenure.

And Trump kept gobbling on Thanksgiving as he reveled in a pause in his New York civil fraud trial gag order while others reveled in the coziness of family, friends, and food. In a post on his failing social media site, Trump wished a “Happy Thanksgiving to ALL,” including New York Attorney General Letitia James, who he called “racist,” Judge Arthur Engoron, whom he branded as a “psycho,” and Engoron’s “corrupt” law clerk...........

In his increasingly un-wonderful life, Trump has spent his years enriching only himself and has toiled to remake the world in his own misbegotten image. Now he’s facing the possibility that he could end up like the original “Teflon Don,” another ruthlessly ambitious, attention-addicted son of New York’s outer boroughs — mob boss John Gotti. After years of trials and acquittals, Gotti was finally convicted in 1992 on various charges, including murder, and sentenced to life. He died in prison in 2002.

What ultimately got Gotti was his longtime partner in crime, Sammy “The Bull” Gravano, who ratted him out. And as much as Trump loves to talk about numbers when they favor him, such as polls showing his sizable lead over fellow Republican presidential candidates, the figure on his mind these days is probably four — as in the four coconspirators in the Georgia election interference case who’ve cut plea deals with prosecutors in exchange for testimony during the upcoming trial, including against the former president.

Conspiring with Trump is one thing; risking your freedom by continuing to promulgate his lies is quite another. And notice that he didn’t trash them as he is James, Engoron, and Jack Smith, the special counsel prosecuting Trump’s trials for mishandling classified documents and federal election interference. He recognizes that those who’ve flipped on him can do serious damage to him............
