Anxiety surges as Donald Trump may be indicted soon: Why 2024 is 'the final battle' and 'the big one'

WASHINGTON – It looks like American politics is entering a new age of anxiety, triggered by an unprecedented legal development: The potential indictment of a former president and current presidential candidate.

Donald Trump's many legal problems – and calls for protests by his followers – have generated new fears of political violence and anxiety about the unknowable impact all this will have on the already-tense 2024 presidential election

I’ll reframe this is a more accurate way, Are Presidents above the law? This new age was spurred into existence when home grown dummies elected a corrupt, mentally ill, anti-democratic, would be dictator as President and don’t bother to hold him responsible for his crimes, don’t want to because in the ensuing mayhem and destruction, they think they will be better off. The man is actually advocating violence (not the first time). And btw, screw democracy too. If this feeling spreads, we are In deep shirt.

This goes beyond one treasonous Peice of work and out to all his minions. This is on you or should we be sympathetic to the idea of they can’t help being selfish suckers to the Nation’s detriment? Donald Trump is the single largest individual threat to our democracy and it‘s all going to boil down to will the majority of the GOP return to his embrace and start slinging his excrement to support him?

Another POV on this. Trump is either straight up lying or he’s completely delusional. Like unwell to the point of he needs to be under supervision delusional.

There is no Donald Trump. The collection of ego, experience and perception that once manifested as the personality known as Donald Trump was subsumed years ago into the raging narcissistic pit of his illness.

This is end-stage narcissistic personality disorder. Think of it like a cancer that metastasized and grew until it's *all* cancer now.

This being will say anything, do anything in order to keep its delusions in place. It believes everything it says, even the self-contradictory things because it *must*. It has no choice.

If it fails even for a moment it will disintegrate.

He’s starting to disintegrate now. But it’s happening too slowly. It needs to happen faster. His cult will never turn away, but the vast majority of voters will, if they see him without protection. His handlers, I read, are trying to get him to tone it down, and appear more reasonable. And then he changed his nickname for Haley from “bird brain” to “brain dead”.

So, how are there people who are trying to “handle” him? Who on earth with half a brain thinks he can be modulated?

Well, the pace is accelerating. Comparing 2016 Cheato to now shows a marked difference.

If he doesn't completely unravel by October, I hope someone in the Biden camp has the grit to create comparison ads.

They aren't supposed to collude, but a suggestion to a Dem super PAC that having someone read Trump speeches word for word while a screen scroll or subtle voiceover describes the symptoms of senile dementia could go a long way to giving Biden the win.

Going high when they go low is for times when you can afford to lose 'the good fight'. Now is not such a time.

I disagree. I want it to happen after Trump secures the nomination at the Republican National Convention. He and the Republican party that put him in power and keep enabling him need to get stuck with him and disintegrate with him.

I do think if Trump gets the nomination he likely won’t win, but I don’t crave the anxiety of that six months before we find out.

I understand and respect that, as I'll have anxiety too. I think too much credit and blame for our current situation is put individually on Trump. Trump is part of the problem, but Trump is not the problem and he is more of a symptom than he is a problem.

Trump could vanish from existence in this very moment and our democracy and way of life would still be under the same level of threat. I'd say it would be even worse, because a lot of people would have a false sense of security and that's would make us even more vulnerable.

I know it's more comforting to think that only one person is the threat, than it is to acknowledge that hundreds of people leading millions of people is the actual threat. It's the other side of the cult of personality coin that also says following one person is the only path to a safe and happy life.

I am still bewildered that tens of millions of people still cling to a guy that vomits poo poo every time he talks. It's almost like he has a side bet with his friends on how far he can go without any push back from his core cult. I honestly believe he can kill a baby on live television and most of his supporters will clean up the blood while siting Abraham from the bible.

I don’t really think this is true. I don’t see anyone who can take up the mantle and bring all the deluded with them. Trump is like the perfect storm of traits - he can be entertaining, he was given the Hollywood treatment that legitimized him as a successful person, he can sell a lie. Maybe Bannon can keep a few, maybe Don Jr. but they cannot hold sway like Trump can.

I don't know if I agree completely. I think Trump is a very specific problem. Whether it's the environment that created him or whatever else contributed or continues to prop him up, he himself is a very specific problem for our country. And he specifically deserves a lot of blame for where we are today politically. His ability to continue to cling to the lies and conspiracy that prop him up regardless of all provable fact, and have mass amounts of people go down that road with him and relinquish any tether to provable reality is why we are in such danger today. All other Republicans combined have maybe 10% of that ability or sway with the GOP electorate.

That of course doesn't absolve the GOP or anybody else for that matter. It also doesn't render your other concerns about our future beyond Trump mute.

I think it is true…..what Trump uncovered is that there are way too many backward arse, bigoted, mostly Christian in name religious and cultish behavioral morons in this country that can’t wait to drag this country into some kind of middle age barbaric Christian nationalist nation state….those folks aren’t going away with Trump when he croaks (hopefully soon)….another fake idol will emerge….just have to hope it takes awhile…..
