Anxiety surges as Donald Trump may be indicted soon: Why 2024 is 'the final battle' and 'the big one'

WASHINGTON – It looks like American politics is entering a new age of anxiety, triggered by an unprecedented legal development: The potential indictment of a former president and current presidential candidate.

Donald Trump's many legal problems – and calls for protests by his followers – have generated new fears of political violence and anxiety about the unknowable impact all this will have on the already-tense 2024 presidential election

I’ll reframe this is a more accurate way, Are Presidents above the law? This new age was spurred into existence when home grown dummies elected a corrupt, mentally ill, anti-democratic, would be dictator as President and don’t bother to hold him responsible for his crimes, don’t want to because in the ensuing mayhem and destruction, they think they will be better off. The man is actually advocating violence (not the first time). And btw, screw democracy too. If this feeling spreads, we are In deep shirt.

This goes beyond one treasonous Peice of work and out to all his minions. This is on you or should we be sympathetic to the idea of they can’t help being selfish suckers to the Nation’s detriment? Donald Trump is the single largest individual threat to our democracy and it‘s all going to boil down to will the majority of the GOP return to his embrace and start slinging his excrement to support him?

It will be months before buyers might receive Donald Trump's exclusive line of sneakers.

According to the fine print on the Trump Sneakers website, it could take up to five months for customers to receive their purchases. Some products could take even longer.

"Trump Sneakers are expected to start shipping July 2024 for the gold High-Tops, and the Potus 45 White Knit & Red Wave Knit are expected to ship in August 2024," a statement on the website said.

The statement did not rule out additional delays.

"Shipping and delivery dates are estimates only and cannot be guaranteed. We are not liable for any delays in shipments," the fine print noted.

The website also explained why the gold sneakers took so long to produce.

"The Sneaker(s) are made to order," the website claimed. "When you checkout you will be able to order any size that you want, meaning there is no chance a size can sell out unless the whole collection sells out. The images shown are for illustration purposes only and may not be an exact representation of the product."

But the fine print assured customers that the sneakers would be "special."

"Our official Donald J. Trump sneakers and fragrances are a tribute to the Trump legacy, blending premium craftsmanship with a distinctive style," the document insisted. "Our sneakers are designed to stand out with bold elements like the gold '45' and the American flag, symbolizing leadership and patriotism."............

Former President Trump, who has predicted economic doom if he’s not elected back to the White House, said Monday he should get credit for the stock market’s recent record highs, more than three years after he left office.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump claimed that polls that show him ahead of President Biden in a hypothetical rematch in November are driving the optimistic outlook on Wall Street.

“THIS IS THE TRUMP STOCK MARKET BECAUSE MY POLLS AGAINST BIDEN ARE SO GOOD THAT INVESTORS ARE PROJECTING THAT I WILL WIN, AND THAT WILL DRIVE THE MARKET UP,” Trump wrote in an all-caps missive on Truth Social.

Biden’s campaign team mocked the post, describing it as Trump “desperately trying to take credit for the stock market hitting record highs under President Biden.”

The Hill/Decision Desk HQ analysis of polls shows Biden and the GOP front-runner, Trump, in a close race in a general election match-up, with Trump ahead by an average of 2.2 percentage points.

Trump repeatedly has predicted the stock market would crash if he doesn’t win the presidential election — most recently ahead of this month’s Iowa caucuses..........

    From the above article:
Caseber, a Democrat who would back Biden over Trump, added, “Any sense of urgency that we had with the 2020 election — I think it’s still there in the sense that no one wants Trump to be president, at least for Democrats, but it’s exhausting.”
Democrats are hardly alone in their political fatigue: A Pew Research Center survey last year found that 65% of Americans said they always or often felt exhausted when they thought about politics.
A Yahoo News/YouGov poll asked voters last fall about their attitudes toward the 2024 election. Thirty-nine percent of Democrats picked “exhaustion” from the list of sentiments offered (a close second to “dread”). Just 26% of Republicans chose “exhaustion.”
Lauren Hitt, a spokesperson for Biden, said there was tangible evidence of enthusiasm in recent weeks, including on the fundraising front.

She also signaled that the campaign’s messaging would go beyond simply opposing Trump, drawing contrasts with Republicans on abortion rights and gun safety as she described the stakes of the election, and nodding to Biden’s policy accomplishments on issues such as combating climate change and child poverty.
Democrats are also trying to put abortion rights on the ballot, literally and figuratively. The Biden campaign has already started advertising on the issue.
Leah Greenberg, the co-executive director of the Indivisible Project, a progressive grassroots group, said her organization was supporting ballot measure efforts that would protect abortion rights in key states. She also argued that full Democratic control of Washington could lead to meaningful abortion protections nationally.

“Burnout tends to be a function of a sense of powerlessness,” she said. “People are activated around getting our rights back.”
That kind of message resonated with Dorothy Stevenson, 64, of Milwaukee. She did not vote for president in 2020, she said, alluding to Biden’s tough-on-crime record as a senator and worried that he was not “really for Black people.” Now, she said, she is unexcited by her choices, but intends to support Biden because she believes the stakes of the election are higher.

“It’s really, really, really, really because of the abortion issue — I think that they need to stay away from women’s bodies,” she said. The potential return of Trump, she said, is “a crisis.”
Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, a Biden campaign co-chair, said she “heard some fatigue and some concern” in the recent past.

But after Trump won the New Hampshire primary, she said, “there has been a palpable shift. And it’s what I had hoped for. I hope we can sustain it and grow it.”

I mean, we're here because the Religious Right cannot just give it a rest. They're driven by zealotry, if they stop Yahweh will smite them. (Or the nation as a whole, He's renowned for His terrible aim.)

    that did not take long

ODD The Houston Chronicle editorial board has endorsed both Joe Biden and Nikki Haley.

This was in the Haley endorsement:

Shake off your dust, Texas voters. The results of the Republican primary for the presidential nomination are not final, and in this state, all registered voters can participate.
No Texan is a “registered” Republican or Democrat. Our primaries are open — at least, for now, until somebody powerful starts insisting that we close them in the name of "election integrity."
We urge any Texas voter who's not a dyed-in-the-wool Democrat to have their say in the March 5 GOP primaries. Early voting starts Tuesday. Storm them, we say, if you have even an iota of conservatism in you. By that we mean the desire to conserve American democracy. Storm them if you're an independent. Storm them if you usually stay home in March and wait for the main event in November. Fact is, in Texas, the March Republican primary is the main event. It's where the winners and losers are picked, especially in districts that are so gerrymandered that Democrats don't have a chance in November. Faithful Democrats, we're not asking you to switch sides; you're still needed in your own primary, especially to ward off some of the worrisome down-ballot candidates we've warned against in our endorsements.
    Everybody else, have your say.

This was the second paragraph of the Biden endorsement:

The accomplishments of an administration dedicated to governing, one that believes in the power of government to make life better for the American people, is a key reason we heartily endorse the reelection of President Joe Biden. The other reason, equally important, is to fend off the chaos, corruption and danger to the nation that would accompany the return of Donald Trump to the White House.

That's not just an endorsement for the primary, it says:

"The accomplishments of an administration dedicated to governing, one that believes in the power of government to make life better for the American people, is a key reason we heartily endorse the reelection of President Joe Biden."

An influential think tank close to Donald Trump is developing plans to infuse Christian nationalist ideas in his administration should the former president return to power, according to documents obtained by POLITICO.

Spearheading the effort is Russell Vought, who served as Trump’s director of the Office of Management and Budget during his first term and has remained close to him. Vought, who is frequently cited as a potential chief of staff in a second Trump White House, is president of The Center for Renewing America think tank, a leading group in a conservative consortium preparing for a second Trump term.

Christian nationalists in America believe that the country was founded as a Christian nation and that Christian values should be prioritized throughout government and public life. As the country has become less religious and more diverse, Vought has embraced the idea that Christians are under assault and has spoken of policies he might pursue in response.

One document drafted by CRA staff and fellows includes a list of top priorities for CRA in a second Trump term. “Christian nationalism” is one of the bullet points. Others include invoking the Insurrection Act on Day One to quash protests and refusing to spend authorized congressional funds on unwanted projects, a practice banned by lawmakers in the Nixon era.

CRA’s work fits into a broader effort by conservative, MAGA-leaning organizations to influence a future Trump White House. Two people familiar with the plans, who were granted anonymity to discuss internal matters, said that Vought hopes his proximity and regular contact with the former president — he and Trump speak at least once a month, according to one of the people — will elevate Christian nationalism as a focal point in a second Trump term.

The documents obtained by POLITICO do not outline specific Christian nationalist policies. But Vought has promoted a restrictionist immigration agenda, saying a person’s background doesn’t define who can enter the U.S., but rather, citing Biblical teachings, whether that person “accept[ed] Israel’s God, laws and understanding of history.”............

Wolfe, who has deleted several posts on X that detail his views, has a more extreme outlook of what a government led by Christian nationalists should propose. In a December post, he called for ending sex education in schools, surrogacy and no-fault divorce throughout the country, as well as forcing men “to provide for their children as soon as it’s determined the child is theirs” — a clear incursion by the government into Americans’ private lives.

“Christians should reject a Christ-less ‘conservatism,’” he expanded in another X missive, “and demand the political movement we are most closely associated with make a return to Christ-centered foundations. Because it’s either Christ or chaos, even on the ‘Right.’”...............

just...objectively hideous. I can't imagine anyone looking at those and going "thats MY style"

.......Berty Mandagie, a commercial photographer and sneaker enthusiast from Seattle, feels the same way. “Trump has nothing to do with sneakers and sneaker culture consists of people of color who would not feel safe around someone like Trump and his followers,” Mandagie said. “The fact that Sneaker Con turned out to be a Trump rally instead of a sneaker convention is wildly upsetting.”

And what to make of the shoe design? “I think they’re tacky,” Mandagie said. “They look spray-painted with a cheap gold color. The font of the ‘T’ is so basic. It looks like a knockoff shoe produced by Temu.”

Zeke Hannula, a San Francisco-based sneakerhead and content creator, calls the stunt “very, very dumb”.

“He just took the worst parts of sneaker culture and fed into it,” Hannula said. “I think someone on the Trump team just saw how you can release a small amount of sneakers and get notoriety for the insane resale prices, and I hate that. This all seems so cheap and ugly, but that’s very on-brand for Trump.”...........

Donald Trump has said that his wife Melania will be out “quite a bit” during his ongoing campaign to reclaim the White House, despite her recent absence from the spotlight.

Mr Trump praised the former first lady, at a town hall event in South Carolina on Tuesday, during which he described her as a “very brilliant person” who had done “a beautiful job in raising my very tall son”.…..

"...very tall son." What? What the hell?

Very tall. That's all you've got? Can Trump even get the kid's name right three out of five times?
