This is going to need a thread as we move forward - there are now clear signs that Trump supports a new, critical if not dubious approach on vaccination, and his HHS nominee RFK Jr. regularly espouses eating raw milk and raw meat . . . dietary components most experts agree are more dangerous than their heated counterparts.

Health is certainly one of those areas were anti-institutionalism and turning to popular influencers over medical science comes with genuine risk of harm.

Today Trump provided his most clear indication that he is a vaccine skeptic - claiming (falsely of course) that the USA doesn't "do as well" as other nations that use no vaccines at all.

The number of U.S. children diagnosed with autism continues to rise, according to a new study from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with an estimated one in every 31 Americans under the age of eight found to have the condition in 2022.

That compares with a rate of one child in 36 in 2020, the report states, its findings taken from surveillance data from 16 areas that participated in the agency’s Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network, but which do not presume to be nationally representative.

U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, who has previously suggested there could be a link between childhood vaccines and autism, has vowed to uncover the root cause behind the “epidemic” and last week announced a “massive testing and research effort” to establish the truth by September.

However, the CDC’s experts dispute the idea that the condition is becoming more widespread, despite the rise in its data, instead attributing the uptick in cases to improved diagnostics.

The report’s authors say advances in screening and testing “have been apparent” since its last report was published and suggest that “differences in the prevalence of children identified with [autism spectrum disorder] across communities might be due to differences in availability of services for early detection and evaluation and diagnostic practices.”………

My daugther has Aspergers and have had it from birth. No vaccines required for that. It is genetic for gods sake. My grandfather was an late diagnosed Aspergers (diagnosed late in life). The only reason that more people get diagnosed with Autism is because of the increased awareness on the issue.

He claims he is about ready to realise the cause of autism.

Inside 'anti-vaxx' US town being overwhelmed by world's most infectious disease

An anti-vaxx town in the US is currently being gripped by the world's most infectious disease - a horror measles outbreak that has so far killed two children. But residents in Seminole, Texas, are standing firm on their decision to stay vaccine free, with many claiming the jabs contain "dangerous stuff" and that big pharma have only manufactured them to make money.

This is despite the town's most recent tragedy - the death of eight-year-old Daisy Hildebrand - who is now the second child to die from an escalating measles crisis sweeping Seminole. Her devastated father, Peter Hildebrand, is convinced his daughter did not die from the killer disease. He said: "She did not die of the measles. If there's one thing you should know, it's that. She was failed." But Daisy's death was confirmed to be from measles by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Tragically for Daisy, it’s far easier to fool her parents than to convince them they’ve been fooled.
And look, when they fail at keeping their kid healthy, they go to the doctors that they don't trust on vaccinations, then blame them when their choice killed their kid. its amazing how they can pick and choose what parts of medicine they choose.

Horrible people to let their child die of something preventable because of politics. I don't feel sorry for the parents. It's sad the little girl wasn't born to other people. Fundamentalist like that don't make good/decent parents.

It's not politics, it's religion. Antivaxxers are the new religious zealots.

CNN) — The Trump administration is formulating plans to cut roughly a third of the federal health budget, eliminate dozens of programs and vastly whittle down health agencies, according to an internal document reviewed by CNN.

The preliminary memo, sent from White House budget officials to the Department of Health and Human Services, previews the administration’s plans to slash discretionary federal health spending and rework health agencies in the image of President Donald Trump and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s “Make America Healthy Again” mandate.

The document, dated April 10, could still be finalized with changes. If enacted as is, it could cut total federal health spending by tens of billions of dollars a year. It would also consolidate dozens of health programs and departments into the Administration for a Healthy America (AHA), a new entity unveiled by Kennedy during mass layoffs earlier this month.

The plan calls for steep cuts to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which would see its budget reduced by more than 40% under the administration’s proposal…….

My two boys are both moderate to severe autistics and you are exactly right. It’s the better screening for autism that has helped identify those who need help.

That’s one of the most chilling things that I’ve read yet from this heinous administration. This is going to hurt so many of the poor and needy. It’s so anti everything thing that I believe in as an American citizen.

    Good read
    =========

In 2017, when a nurse came into the room and told my wife and I that our son Noah, who was 2 at the time, was autistic the words didn’t destroy us. What they did was wipe away the fog of uncertainty, and provide a game plan that would have him receiving all the support he needs.

Which is why, nearly eight years later, hearing Robert F. Kennedy Jr. — now the secretary of Health and Human Services — stand at a podium and describe children like my son as part of an “autism epidemic,” allegedly caused by unnamed “environmental toxins,” feels like whiplash.

Kennedy stood before the cameras and declared that children like Noah “will never pay taxes, never hold a job, never use a toilet unassisted.” He called autism “a preventable disease” and promised a lightning-fast investigation to root out its so-called environmental causes. He brushed aside decades of scientific research and equated a complex neurodevelopmental condition with contamination.

This is the man responsible for guiding the United States’ national health policy.

    Let that sink in.

This isn’t merely misinformation. It’s an entire new level of fear-mongering. It’s the 21st-century version of a con artist in a lab coat — smooth talk, false promises and no science.

Let me tell you what autism actually looks like.

It looks like Noah sitting cross-legged on the floor, reciting the names of every planet in our solar system — backward — because that’s more fun for him. It looks like him sketching out elaborate mazes in his notebook, inventing characters with their own stories and voices. It’s imitating his favorite episodes of “Spongebob Squarepants” and editing together videos on his tablet device that would make Thelma Schoonmaker a little bit jealous. It looks like joy, struggle, growth and humanity.

And it looks like the extraordinary autistic adults I’ve come to meet, know and admire thanks to series such as Netflix’s “Love on the Spectrum,” which offers what Kennedy clearly lacks: respect and understanding.

In three seasons, we’ve seen autistic people go on dates, fall in love, get married — and yes, write poems, tell jokes and hold jobs.

The infectiously lovable Tanner from South Carolina holds a full-time job at a hotel and lives with roommates — contributing more to our society than many of the people currently involved in the Trump administration.…….
