This is going to need a thread as we move forward - there are now clear signs that Trump supports a new, critical if not dubious approach on vaccination, and his HHS nominee RFK Jr. regularly espouses eating raw milk and raw meat . . . dietary components most experts agree are more dangerous than their heated counterparts.

Health is certainly one of those areas were anti-institutionalism and turning to popular influencers over medical science comes with genuine risk of harm.

Today Trump provided his most clear indication that he is a vaccine skeptic - claiming (falsely of course) that the USA doesn't "do as well" as other nations that use no vaccines at all.

Robert F Kennedy Jr, the US health secretary, said he plans to tell the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to stop recommending fluoridation in communities nationwide. Kennedy also said he’s assembling a taskforce to focus on the issue.

Also on Monday, the Environmental Protection Agency announced it was reviewing “new scientific information” on potential health risks of fluoride in drinking water. The EPA has primary authority to set the maximum level of fluoridation in public water systems.

Kennedy told the Associated Press of his plans after a news conference with Lee Zeldin, the EPA administrator, in Salt Lake City.

Kennedy cannot order communities to stop fluoridation, but he can tell the CDC to stop recommending it and work with the EPA to change the allowed amount.

Utah last month became the first state to ban fluoride in public drinking water, pushing past opposition from dentists and national health organizations who warned the move would lead to medical problems that disproportionately affect low-income communities.

The Republican governor Spencer Cox signed legislation barring cities and communities from deciding whether to add the cavity-preventing mineral to their water systems. Water systems across the state must shut down their fluoridation systems by 7 May.

Kennedy praised Utah for emerging as “the leader in making America healthy again”. He was flanked by Utah legislative leaders and the sponsor of the state’s fluoride law.

“I’m very, very proud of this state for being the first state to ban it, and I hope many more will,” he said.……..

I can imagine what that task force level of expertise would be equal to. though anymore its pretty easy to get floride so I don know if it is as important as it once was. but a person like that making real policy is scary.

It’s not as easy for poor people to get fluoride treatments. And tooth decay, as noted, often leads to far more serious and life altering conditions.

A Voodoo Witch doctor was put in charge of National Health, with the approved agenda of reducing the population. 🤔

it's in all toothpaste now. yes, it used to be more of an issue, but now it's not as bad.

In his first network TV interview since becoming Health and Human Services secretary under the Trump administration, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. spoke with CBS News chief medical correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook about the measles vaccine, major government cuts and health care costs.

LaPook met with Kennedy in Mesa, Arizona, where he visited a native health center as part of a three-state tour to promote the Trump administration's "Make America Healthy Again" agenda, which includes overhauling standards for food processing.

"FDA needs to start regulating food again and saying, you know, not just when food is adulterated, when there's bacteria in it, let's look at the chemicals in it," Kennedy said.

Since his appointment in February, Kennedy has facilitated sweeping cuts affecting a wide range of programs and employees.

When asked by LaPook if he personally approved the more than $11 billion proposed in cuts to local and state programs that address infectious disease, mental health, addiction and childhood vaccination, Kennedy said, "No I'm not familiar with those cuts. We'd have to go … the cuts were mainly DEI cuts, which the president ordered."

LaPook provided Kennedy with an example of a $750,000 University of Michigan grant focused on adolescent diabetes, which was eliminated.

"I didn't know that, and that's something that we'll look at," Kennedy said. He added that he could not speak to if it should be considered a DOGE cut.

"I just, I'm not familiar with that particular study. But there's a number of studies that were cut that came to our attention and that did not deserve to be cut, and we reinstated them. Our purpose is not to reduce any level of scientific research that's important."..................

According to an article in the Atlantic RFK,Jr. went to the funeral of one of the children that died of measles and said that “you don’t know what’s in the vaccine anymore” referring to the measles vaccine.

When and if the Dems take control of the House and Senate impeachment of the this dangerous azzhat should be job #1.

Considering his brain worm, I think “maggot” is appropriate for him.

And we have yet another cabinet secretary admitting they are not making the personnel and program cuts, Musk is. Which, as I understand it, makes those firings illegal.

Speaking with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr and other members of his Cabinet, President Donald Trump suggested Thursday that “something” is causing higher autism levels across the U.S., possibly including vaccinations, though that theory has been debunked by science.

“You stop taking something, you stop eating something, or maybe it’s a shot,” Trump mused, “but something’s causing it.”

A link between vaccines and the developmental disability is something Trump has considered before. In 2014, he tweeted: “Healthy young child goes to doctor, gets pumped with massive shot of many vaccines, doesn't feel good and changes - AUTISM. Many such cases!”

Kennedy has ordered a re-examination of a debunked link between vaccinations and autism, and told the president that scientists would “know what has caused the autism epidemic” by September……..

Maybe it’s a shot or maybe, just maybe Trump and RFK, Jr. are idiots.

    I think it’s the latter.

Return of an oldie but goodie:

Blaming video games and gamers for stuff
    ===============================

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson is blaming what he calls “young men” playing video games instead of working, as he defends Republicans’ plan to gut Medicaid—slashing what Democrats say is $880 billion from the vital health program that provides medical care to one in five Americans.

“No one has talked about cutting one benefit in Medicaid to anyone who’s duly owed — what we’ve talked about is returning work requirements, so, for example, you don’t have able-bodied young men on a program that’s designed for single mothers and the elderly and disabled,” said the Speaker. Johnson’s own Louisiana district has a disproportionately high rate of Americans on the life-saving program: CBS News this week reported Medicaid is a “lifeline” for people in his district.

Johnson blamed what he suggested is a large number of male gamers on Medicaid for “draining resources.”

“So if you clean that up and shore it up, you save a lot of money, and you return the dignity of work to young men who need to be out working instead of playing video games all day,” he again declared.

“We have a lot of fraud, waste, and abuse in Medicaid. Just one tiny example. The estimate is $51 billion a year, in Medicaid is lost to fraud. That’s unconscionable,” the Louisiana GOP lawmaker claimed.

But rather than target professionals who may be bilking the system, or other factors including paperwork errors, Johnson has chosen to repeatedly target what he claims are “29-year-old males sitting on their couches playing video games.”...............
