The race for Louisiana Governor between democrat John Bel Edwards and republican Eddie Rispone, which is drawing national attention and a ton of outside money, gets decided tomorrow.

Rispone has smartly hitched his wagon to Donald Trump, hoping to make the race a referendum on Trump in a very red state, evidently not wanting to have the race focus on a comparison of qualifications. His commercials focus on painting Edwards as a liberal. Only in Louisiana can a pro life, pro second amendment former green beret like Edwards be called a liberal.

Edwards is a good guy, I hope he wins. I sat with him for a few innings at the LSU Army baseball game. He was wearing Army gear, I didn’t know he played baseball for Army at West Point. He did have on purple socks as a nod to LSU.

It will be an interesting race. Millions of dollars from outside the state have poured in. Trump has been in the state at least twice , stumping for Rispone. Taking a page from Trump attacking McCain, Rispone has even attacked Edward’s military service. Did Rispone have bone spurs too?

Most are predicting a close race. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking, but I see Edwards winning with about 52% of the vote. The returns should start coming in around the time the LSU game ends.

Happy for the win but that was way closer than it had any right to be.

It depends on how you look at it. Louisiana is about as red a state as you can get. So when a democrat wins after Trump personally stumped the state twice, it’s a particularly stinging defeat for Rispone and the horse he hitched to, Trump.

I wonder how much they view this as a microcosm of 2020. If Trump lite can’t wins state this red, is Trump in equal trouble?

Also, that margin in Orleans is insane. Wow.

Well all I know is I've heard Eddie speak once. Trump or no Trump I wouldn't have voted for him. Plus if I did I wouln't have gotten that nioce clean crisp 5 dollar bill.

Rispone was a terrible candidate. You have to wonder if Abraham would have won. Kennedy or Landry might have win had they run. Thank you Eddie! Trump will now throw Eddie under the bus. Lol

I'll happily take that silver lining. It still disturbs me how people can cast a vote for a candidate that has displayed so little substance.

I think so for sure. News is discussing this a bit now.

Edwards is a lot more palatable to Louisiana voters than any candidate the Dems will put up in 2020, but it should be cause for concern in more contested states, I’d think.

Bob I got your Lincoln coming in the mail. Funny thing with inflation and all, it’s still just five bucks for a vote. Lol. I have seen how elections work on a precinct level. It’s amazing the shenanigans that go on. The guy you paid $2500 to bus voters to the polls might have been paid $5000 by your opponent and may have zero control over how his riders vote anyway.

Casual observer here. Always good to see anyone hitching their wagon to Trump go down. Seems like the candidate didn't offer much. Good for Louisiana to stick with JBE.

It's a good day for Louisianians and good day for the state in general. The results tell me that there are more of us than there are of them. And by "us" I mean people who don't simply vote for the letter behind a candidate's name and people who will pull the lever for the person that they feel is best for the state at this time.
