Russia continues to mass assets within range of Ukraine - though the official explanations are that they are for various exercises. United States intelligence has noted that Russian operatives in Ukraine could launch 'false flag' operations as a predicate to invasion. The West has pressed for negotiations and on Friday in Geneva, the US Sec. State Blinken will meet with the Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

Certainly the Russian movements evidence some plan - but what is it? Some analysts believe that Putin's grand scheme involves securing Western commitments that NATO would never expand beyond its current composition. Whether that means action in Ukraine or merely the movement of pieces on the chess board remains to be seen.

VIENNA — No one expected much progress from this past week’s diplomatic marathon to defuse the security crisis Russia has ignited in Eastern Europe by surrounding Ukraine on three sides with 100,000 troops and then, by the White House’s accounting, sending in saboteurs to create a pretext for invasion.

But as the Biden administration and NATO conduct tabletop simulations about how the next few months could unfold, they are increasingly wary of another set of options for President Vladimir V. Putin, steps that are more far-reaching than simply rolling his troops and armor over Ukraine’s border.

Mr. Putin wants to extend Russia’s sphere of influence to Eastern Europe and secure written commitments that NATO will never again enlarge. If he is frustrated in reaching that goal, some of his aides suggested on the sidelines of the negotiations last week, then he would pursue Russia’s security interests with results that would be felt acutely in Europe and the United States.

There were hints, never quite spelled out, that nuclear weapons could be shifted to places — perhaps not far from the United States coastline — that would reduce warning times after a launch to as little as five minutes, potentially igniting a confrontation with echoes of the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.

Do you think Ukraine is a Democracy?

Do you think it's worth war and tons of death and destruction to control those minerals that aren't even ours?

I still can't figure out the mental gymnastics that makes you pro-Palestine, but also pro-Russia. You just completely ignore that Russia genocides Ukrainians at every turn.

You then make post like this.

What a great detailed reply. Do you feel gulity at all for supporting a Biden who is enabling the Israeli genocide?

SFL, do you feel guilty supporting Putin who is enabling Ukrainian genocide? What is the American estimate: 70k Ukrainian civilians dead? Is that not enough blood to justify helping these people?

Graham is talking about the real reason why we are in Ukraine as opposed to the talking points about protecting democracy.

So you’re admitting we do have a national interest in protecting Ukraine?

Yawn at your CIA talking point about me being pro-Russia, but I guess that's something you have to convince yourself of because apparently you don't know of any other people who are against the war in Ukraine.

    I'm ant-iwar, anti-interventionist, anti-establishment.

Only a simple minded person would equate being anti-war to being pro-Russian unless you don't even realize the US war propaganda you are spouting.

I don't support Putin. Biden has been and continues to support Israel committing genocide

I want the proxy war with a nuclear armed Russia to end. I want the genocide against Palestinians to end. It's pretty simple to understand unless you live in a bubble.

You're not actually against war, intervention, or establishment. You support an authoritarian. There is nothing more establishment then that. It's like Xi Jinping support telling us they are against big government.

You are only anti-war/or intervention when a Democrat is president. Don't make me go dig up your post criticizing Biden's pull out of Afghanistan.

SFL kept his mouth shut when Trump was president.

Oh thanks for telling me what I really think and believe. Do you have the winning lottery tickets too?

Should be really easy for you make me look like a clown right now. All you have to do is show a single post criticizing Trump for his ME wars while he was president.

This is pretty binary. You either did it, or you didn't.

    I don't support Putin.
Bull crap. You have spent many posts expounding that Putin isn’t to blame for the invasion of a sovereign country. And you also almost never fail to regurgitate Russian talking points in this thread.

We’re not stupid - go peddle that crap somewhere where people will believe you. 🤡

I've said multiple times that Putin is to blame legally and morally for the invasion, but I've also said that the media narrative that you parrot about it being unprovoked is a lie.

We helped push the coup in 2014, installed multiple CIA bases on the Ukrainian border, and have been in a proxy war with Russia since 2014.

So the US poked the bear and then complained when the bear responded. It reminds me of the US being the world leader in interference in foreign countries elections and then when we catch Russia doing it to us we act like it was the next Pearl Harbor.

Maybe you will figure out one day that you've been lied to constantly about the real goals of US foreign policy.

The decision was made following a State Department review of the Azov Brigade, a one-time militia now part of Ukraine’s National Guard.

The Azov Brigade, known for its tenacious but ultimately unsuccessful defense of the Azovstal steel mill in Mariupol early in Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, is regarded as a particularly effective fighting force. But it was barred about a decade ago from using American arms because U.S. officials determined that some of its founders espoused racist, xenophobic and ultranationalist views, and U.N. human rights officials accused the group of humanitarian violations."

They are getting desperate to find more Ukrainian troops. Apparently Ukrainians don't think sacrificing themselves for a war between US and Russia is worth it. I don't blame them

There are plenty more videos like that.

You might as well say that water is wet.

There is never a shortage of deceptive or completely faked videos on the internet.

The internet is not a digital cornfield where there's a supernatural phenomenon of "if you post it, they are true" regarding the deluge of misleading videos posted to the internet.

So Russia did interfere in US elections but Russian interference in US elections was a hoax???

    First it was "Denazification"
    when that fizzled
    NATO expansion
    when that fizzled
    CIA/US in proxy war
    when that fizzled...

    to be continued.

Meanwhile, a quick, very broad search of this site, of the work "hoax" returns dozens of pages - and whaddya know, @SaintForLife has over 12 separate posts in the first 3 pages describing the Russian interference with the 2016 election as a "hoax" - fake news.

Yet here we are where he clearly forgets his lie, while madposting, and admits that Russia indeed interfered with the US election.

    Pretty massive revelation this morning.

Think im going to sip my coffee and ponder this one for a while

Yeah it's not like I've discussed the Russian election interference before right? The same Russian election interference that was vastly exaggerated by the media and the left.
