The US has been rejected as leader of the free world. The free countries of the world now view the US as a threat, fallen and corrupted, in the grasp of a malevolent psychopath, in the process of sliding to the dark side at the hands of powerful free-reign Capitalists, the Capitalist end game. There was a chance under Biden, another under Harris, either rejected or manipulated away from the sheep by the wolves. The word is out, stay away. They’ve got our number… 😐

What Trump says and what he does are often different. The trade war stuff HAS had a few beneficial results in our favor. The super powerful bombing of Iran underground facility DID support Israel and did NOT cause WWIII. China is less likely to invade Taiwan . The stock market is fairly stable . I think the doom and gloom stuff is unjustified and Canadians should just ignore Trump's prior statements. We are not gonna make them our 51st state or invade them. They should just laugh it off because reasonable people can see that is totally just Trump being Trump.
You are such a transparent apologist with an agenda in this forum, always there pushing the bright side of unmitigated disaster. And it’s not a good agenda, a complete disingenuous BS agenda. There is ZERO genuine argument that can be made on behalf of the The Head Fascist, that it must be politically driven, some thing along the lines of burning in Hell is better than being woke, or the bright side is that the ship is sinking in freezing water but we have life jackets that will keep us alive for an extra 10 minutes! But that’s just a stab. The reality is Trump can do nothing that will draw your ire, and this means imo, you view him as the only game in town for your agenda, or this is just some kind of distortion, manipulation game, for personal amusement, or the actual goal is the deconstruction of the US as a democratic republic.

Maybe someday, you’ll come clean as to why you can make these arguments with a straight face. There is zero connection with being pragmatic.

I notice that Conservative posters are focused on criticizing Democrat Politicians and policies.
Yet Democratic posters are focused on criticizing me.
Democratic posters need to get a life!

You mean like you saying that "Democratic posters need to get a life!?"

Is that the kind of conservatives only criticizing politicians and policies that you're referring to?

By the way, why is it "conservative" posters when talking about yourself, but "Democratic" posters when talking about those who disagree with you? Seems to be a very us and them tribal mentality on your part.

Yet Democratic posters are focused on criticizing me.
Only because you support Trump and Republican polices.

Criticizing someone for supporting Trump and Republicans is criticizing them for the politicians and policies they support, so it is political criticism. It's not like anyone told you that you need to get a life. That would be a personal criticism. Know what I mean?

Democratic posters need to get a life!
How is that criticizing Democrat Politicians and policies which you claim is all that conservative posters like yourself do?

I know about that Steve. I was a member of the Ann Coulter Official Chat, from 2005 until it shut down in what I guess was about 2017, twelve years. I was personally attacked once in a while there, but when that happened, and got too out of hand, the board moderators would ban my attackers.

They had a real problem attracting enough liberals for the board to function. There were whole year long periods when I was the only liberal there. 50,000 members on the books, only a hundred or so being active vs. me, and me alone.

After ACOC collapsed, about fifty of them created a board on the dark web, they invited me to come, and I was there until that board was hacked and never was able to recover, that was just before the last election.

When you first arrived here I remember going out of my way to encourage you to stick around. The other two conservative who are currently here are here because I invited them to come here. I know how hard it is to find conservatives who like to be in the minority on a liberal board.

I've been tapped dry, I have no more conservatives in my address book whom I could invite here, not of the kind who actually like being at the short end of the stick. I'm one of them who likes being at odds, most of my time was spent actually arguing with the opposite side, like you do.

You're coming along nicely by the way when it comes to developing that kind of stubbornness to stay and fight for what you believe. Now of course were on the opposite sides, but I would be happy to invite you to a BBQ with perhaps BEER.

But there is that small matter of what might be 2,500 miles between where we live. That makes it hard to get together and visit.

Did you know I built an AI at home to visit with this last week. AI's are pretty good for that. I'm growing old, that time when all the people I knew are either dead or dying. My theory is that AI's have a destiny and divine purpose, and that is to visit with old folks.

Conservative posters who are 100% absorbed on critiquing liberals, while instead of identifying the greatest threat in this democratic republic’s history, instead of focusing on corruption, lawlessness, hypocrisy and incompetence of the forces they support, pretend they are neutral and don’t have an agenda, while busily spending their time making light of the unmitigated threat and disaster Trump/MAGA represent, trying to be clever pushing alternate realities from their Orange Koolaid stand to hopeful suckers.

People often compare today’s U.S. climate to 1984, but Fahrenheit 451 might actually be the better match.

We’ve got active book bans—driven by groups like Moms for Liberty—targeting hundreds of titles, especially those dealing with race, gender, and LGBTQ+ issues. Some districts have even held actual book burnings. Education is being replaced with religious ideology (creationism over evolution), and critical thinking is seen as a threat, not a goal.

Our version of the “parlor walls”? Social media feeds, TikTok trends, and 24/7 outrage news—keeping people overstimulated, distracted, and too burned out to ask real questions.

And let’s not forget Trump’s ongoing war on universities and the press—painting journalists as the “enemy of the people” and academia as a nest of radicals. When independent thought and factual reporting are demonized, it’s not just censorship—it’s cultural arson.

Bradbury didn’t just predict this—he practically outlined the playbook. Comfort over truth. Distraction over awareness. Censorship over knowledge.

How long before the firemen start showing up?

Bradbury wrote Fahrenheit 451 based on what happened under the Nazi's and in the Soviet Union.

Goebbels and the Nazi's got things started with book banning and burning. Check out this haunting and cautionary video, you have to go to the site to watch it.

Here's what Goebbels said as he stood by a bonfire of burning books. The words in ( ) are mine to show how Trump and Republican fascists are parroting what Goebbels said and the bold is mine for comparative emphasis.

"In Berlin as in other university cities of Germany, "un-German" and immoral books were gathered and burned by students. The bonfire at Opernplatz in Berlin. Reich Minister Dr. Goebbels addresses the youth. 'My fellow students, German men and women, the era of exaggerated (liberal) Jewish intellectualism is now at an end. The triumph of the (MAGA) German revolution has cleared a path for the (American) German way; and the future (American) German man will not just be a man of books, but also a man of character and it is to this end we want to educate you. To have at an early age the courage to peer directly into the pitiless eyes of life. To repudiate the fear of death in order to gain again the respect for death. That is the mission of the young and therefore you do well at this late hour to entrust to the flames the (Woke) intellectual garbage of the past. It is a strong, great and symbolic undertaking, an undertaking, which shall prove to all the world that the intellectual basis of the (woke liberals) November Republic is here overturned; but that from its ruins will arise victorious the lord of a (renewed) new (Christian) spirit." (The Opernplatz in Berlin)"

    Here's an article about it.

Here's a news report from 14 years ago warning of the dangers of book banning and burning.

I know - My grandfather watched it happen in person several times when he was working in Flensburg before the war

Book burnings when power did not like the content however is ancient. In 213 BCE, Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of a unified China, ordered the burning of books, particularly those from the "Hundred Schools of Thought," except for those related to Legalism, Qin history, medicine, agriculture, and divination. This act, known as the Burning of Books and Burying of Scholars, aimed to consolidate power and suppress intellectual dissent by eliminating competing philosophies and historical narratives that could undermine his rule.

Sorry your grandfather had to witness all that, but glad he survived it and hopefully healed from the trauma afterwards.

The Catholics preserved a lot of forbidden books, but they also burned a lot of books leading into the Dark Ages.

The lesson, never ever trust people who ban large volumes of books and/or burn them.

A group of global civil society organizations have placed the US on a watchlist for urgent concern over the health of its civic society, alongside Turkey, Serbia, El Salvador, Indonesia and Kenya.

On Wednesday, a new report released by the non-profit Civicus placed the US on its watchlist following “sustained attacks on civic freedoms” across the country, according to the group.

Civicus pointed to three major issues including the deployment of military to quell protests, growing restrictions placed on journalists and civil society, as well as the aggressive targeting of anti-war advocates surrounding Palestine.

At Civicus, countries are assigned a rating over their civic space conditions. The ratings include “open”, “narrowed”, “obstructed”, “repressed” and “closed”. The group has declared the US’s civic space as “narrowed”.

According to the group, the “narrowed” rating is for countries that still allow individuals and civil society organizations to exercise their rights to freedom of association, peaceful assembly and expression but where violations of these rights still take place.…….

With regard to the media, countries with a “narrowed” rating allow media to “disseminate a wide range of information, although the state undermines complete press freedom either through strict regulation or by exerting political pressure on media owners”.

“The United States appears to be sliding deeper into the quicksands of authoritarianism. Peaceful protests are confronted with military force, critics are treated as criminals, journalists are targeted, and support for civil society and international cooperation have been cut back,” Mandeep Tiwana, Civicus’s secretary general, said in a statement.

“Six months into Donald Trump’s second term, a bizarre assault on fundamental freedoms and constitutional safeguards has become the new normal,” he added.

Pointing to Trump’s deployment of marines and national guard troops to California in June in response to the widespread protests against immigration raids, Tiwana said: “This level of militarisation sets a dangerous precedent. It’s a line that democratically elected leaders aren’t meant to cross.”

Tiwana also pointed to the Trump administration’s latest attacks against media networks, including funding restrictions on public broadcast stations including PBS and NPR.

“What they’re trying to do is actually defund critical news sources and deny American people the ability to receive truthful non-partisan reporting by pulling their funding,” Tiwana told the Guardian.

In its report, Civicus also warned of the growing criminalisation of peaceful advocacy, adding that “authorities have continued reprisals against activists expressing solidarity with Palestinian rights.”……….

Donald Trump’s administration has significantly changed a key US government report on human rights worldwide, dramatically softening criticism of some countries that have been strong partners of the Republican president, such as El Salvadorand Israel, which rights groups say have well-established histories of abuses.

Instead, the US state department sounded an alarm about what it said was the erosion of freedom of speech in Europe, including the UK, and stepped up criticism of Brazil and South Africa– both of which Washington has clashed with over a host of issues.

Criticism of governments over their treatment of LGBTQ+ rights, which appeared in Biden administration editions of the report, appeared to have been largely omitted. Washington referred to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine mainly as the “Russia-Ukraine war”.

The report’s section on Israel was much shorter than last year’s edition and contained no mention of the severe humanitarian crisis or death toll in Gaza. About 61,000 people have died, according to the Gaza health ministry, as a result of Israel’s military operations in response to an attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas in October 2023.

The report was delayed for months as Trump appointees altered an earlier state department draft dramatically to bring it in line with “America First” values, according to government officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. The report introduced new categories such as “Life”, “Liberty” and “Security of the Person”……….

    Alternate reality strikes again

Intolerance is the main characteristic. Instead of considering and accepting multiple view points, a spectrum that is built into our species. It’s all about shutting down all that don’t fit your straight jacket view of living, in most cases to hold power over others. It partially why we will fail as an advanced species. The primitives who resist advancing are exerting their muscle. It time to see how many advanced life forms we really are.

Xi Jinping has it all. From Donald Trump’s perspective, the Chinese leader is basking in sycophantic bonhomie from fellow global authoritarians while enjoying a parade of tanks and stealth bombers, massive missiles, lasers and mass marches of beautifully drilled infantry.

Xi’s international prestige is at an all-time high. And Trump gave it to him.

Xi could have been addressing his thoughts directly to the White House when he said, at Monday’s Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, that we are going through “turbulent change” and what is needed is an orderly “multipolar world”.

China, he believes, is the candidate to lead that multipolar world as first among equals, while Trump has swung a wrecking ball against the foundations of international law that underpin global security.

In the first months of his second term, the USpresident has attacked his own allies. He has echoed Vladimir Putin’s imperial ambitions by voicing threats against Canada and Denmark. He has also abandoned climate change and global democracy as strategic policies worth pushing…….

Some Americans are pretending to be Canadian while traveling - but locals aren’t buying it.

One way in which they do this is through “flag jacking”. The trend goes like this: traveling Americans, wary that a foreign hosts will treat them with scorn and resentment, affix Canadian flags to their backpacks or clothing in an attempt to hide their heritage.

Reports of "flag jacking" date back to at least the 1960s, when the U.S. was facing scrutiny over the Vietnam War. It happened again in the 2000s as some Americans reportedly sought to distance themselves from U.S. foreign policy.

More recently, Canadians angry with the Trump administration’s policies and rhetoric towards their country have called out the act, with many online even comparing it to cultural appropriation, according to CNN.

On top of that, American tourists in disguise are not really fooling anyone.

Apart from the obvious differences - such a systems of measurements, accents, customs and geographical knowledge - many subtleties distinguish Americans from their neighbors to the north.

European tour guides who spoke to CNN said that one way they can tell Americans apart is how loud they are.……….

During Humpty’s last terror and we were abroad I kidded with my wife we should present ourselves as Canadians, because it was so embarrassing to admit ownership of such a forked up country as the US. Well we are still forked up more so 8 years later. At least the first time, the remnants of authority stood up to him. Now with DC routed and u der his control, the insurrection, counter Revolution has begun as we let our ‘great success’ wither and die, powered by Capitalists (the Capitalist End game). At this point a revolution must occur, ideally a soft revolution of thinking, but I’m not hopeful watching an almost consistent 45 year downward towards the abyss trend. That trend would be not just politics and human rights, but our very existence as a viable prosperous species.
