The US has been rejected as leader of the free world. The free countries of the world now view the US as a threat, fallen and corrupted, in the grasp of a malevolent psychopath, in the process of sliding to the dark side at the hands of powerful free-reign Capitalists, the Capitalist end game. There was a chance under Biden, another under Harris, either rejected or manipulated away from the sheep by the wolves. The word is out, stay away. They’ve got our number… 😐

No one currently meets it and it’s projected for 2036 adding money spent on cybersecurity and a few other new categories.

Given that the United States includes medical costs, housing supplements, and pension expenses in its defense budget, its total defense spending is artificially inflated. In contrast, Scandinavian countries do not include such costs in their defense budgets, as these expenses are covered by universal welfare systems and general legislation that apply to all citizens, not just military personnel.

I like that the US is losing some of it's global influence. I think it's a good thing for all of us on the planet. Influence within NATO should be a lot more equitable than it has been. It will be better for all the countries in NATO.
Under our current state of derangement I agree whole heartedly…

Are all of the U.S. bases in Europe considered part of NATO spending?
Because if they are, the U.S. should definitely close them and give the land back.

The NATO requirement is 2% and ours is 3.4%.

    What constitutes military expenses?
Is Sweden paying $1,600 for $8 rubber wheels like the D.O.D. does?

Nope. Because the millitary business establishment can't buy politicians in Europe the way they do in the US. All orders for military equipment in Europe must go through a tendering process in which both the quality and price of the equipment are considered in the decision-making. Many EU countries make joint purchases, which allows them to achieve further savings

Recently, the procurement process has increasingly favored European-produced weaponry over U.S.-made alternatives—not due to price, but driven by strategic considerations.

Another sign that Denmark takes threats seriously

Denmark on Tuesday expanded its military service to include women, as the Nordic country seeks to recruit more soldiers and strengthen its defenses amid heightened security concerns across Europe.

Under a law passed by Denmark’s parliament in June 2023, Denmark will require women turning 18 after July 1, 2025 to register for assessment days for potential military conscription, aligning with measures already in place for men.

Until now, women, who last year made up around 24% of all recruits, had been allowed to join the military on a voluntary basis.

“In the world situation we’re in right now, it’s necessary to have more conscripts, and I think that women should contribute to that equally, as men do,” Katrine, a recruit in the Danish Royal Life Guard, told Reuters without giving her last name.

In Denmark, volunteers are signed up first for conscription, while the remaining numbers are drawn up in a lottery system.

The armed forces are in the process of making adjustments in barracks and equipment better suited for women.

They are mentioning the "Royal life guard" which is a serious translation error. What they are talking about is the Royal Guard - the kings Guard - and one of the elite units in Denmark.

I served 10 years in the danish version of the national guard in the police unit in the 1980-1990s - even then about 30% of the guard was female,

It's sad that that's the wise thing for you all to do.

In some ways, yes — But it’s also a sign of responsibility and long-term commitment. Putin and Trump aren’t the only threats we face. The environment is becoming more unpredictable, and as climate disasters increase, many conscripts will serve in the Danish Home Guard or National Guard, which operates similarly to FEMA in the U.S. (I served in the home guard myself many years ago).

So far, Denmark has been lucky — no major wildfires, and being a small island nation where the sea is never more than 20 miles away offers some natural protection. But that luck may not hold forever.

During their year of service, everyone receives basic training in first aid, emergency preparedness, and evacuation methods, alongside specialized instruction depending on their role — whether that’s Home Guard, professional military, disaster response, or tech fields like drone operations (my nephew served two years operating drones). The goal is to ensure that all conscripts leave with a strong foundation of knowledge and readiness. If a national crisis ever occurs — whether military or environmental — they can be quickly recalled and contribute meaningfully to the country’s response.

Most Canadians now see the United States as the “greatest threat” to their country, a survey has revealed.

The Pew Research Center found 59 percent of Canadians think the U.S. is their country's greatest threat, above Russia, North Korea and Iran. But 55 percent of Canadians view the U.S as their country’s “most important ally.”…..

Sounds like Canadians are really confused.

I don’t know, Steve. When a crazy talking leader of a very powerful nation right on your border starts talking about making your country into the 51st state, and then refuses to rule out military action against your country, maybe that would get your attention?

Someone is confused, but it’s not Canadians.

Not confused at all — just realistic. Canadians are watching a deranged wannabe dictator rise to power just across their border, someone with control over one of the world’s largest militaries, openly threatening to invade their country. This is a man who talks casually about bombing nuclear facilities in other nations, without any understanding — or concern — about possible catastrophic spread of radioactive fallout.

If Canadians didn’t see that as a threat, then they'd be living in an alternate reality.

I know, Steve is the one who is confused.....he thinks his GOP party is actually sane.....

The Statue of Liberty covers her face with her hands ― in shame, sorrow and horror ― in a new politically charged street art mural that has been painted in northern France, and which President Donald Trump’s MAGA supporters are melting down over.

Netherlands-based artist Judith de Leeuw — aka JDL street art — painted the piece in Roubaix last week.

“I created this piece because my heart breaks when I look at the state of the world today,” de Leeuw told HuffPost. “I’m deeply concerned — not only about the fragile friendship between the E.U. and the U.S. but also about the cruelty of current immigration policies. As an artist, I feel a moral obligation to speak up when the world is in pain. This work is my voice.”..........

But de Leeuw said she is unrepentant.

“I stand by what I’ve done. In a world that feels increasingly unjust, I believe activism is not a choice, but a duty,” she told HuffPost.

Of the meaning of the piece, she explained: “The original Statue of Liberty was a gift from France to the U.S., a symbol that everyone should be free: free to exist, free to be themselves. But today, we have to ask: ‘Is that still true?’”.........

Tim evidently cannot tell the difference between an artistic expression of a personal opinion and matters of the state. And he is an elected official of the GOP. 🤦‍♀️

What Trump says and what he does are often different. The trade war stuff HAS had a few beneficial results in our favor. The super powerful bombing of Iran underground facility DID support Israel and did NOT cause WWIII. China is less likely to invade Taiwan . The stock market is fairly stable . I think the doom and gloom stuff is unjustified and Canadians should just ignore Trump's prior statements. We are not gonna make them our 51st state or invade them. They should just laugh it off because reasonable people can see that is totally just Trump being Trump.
