Yesterday Mike Johnson announced a CR for the House to pass - to continue funding through March (so the new Congress can take it up) and provide additional disaster relief. It also includes a raise for Congress.

Today Trump blasted the resolution and Elon threatened anyone who votes for it with being voted out of office. He also said the GOP shouldn’t vote on anything until Trump is in office - which means a shutdown of about a month.

Trump is already responsible for the longest shut down in history (35 days) - welcome back to Trump chaos.

Current funding expires at midnight on Friday (Saturday morning).

it's just dumb... what happens if they pass the farm aid and/or disaster relief but not the government funding bill? Great, we have money in there but no one to administer it.

I actually want the debt ceiling added.. it should just be eliminated, and if we have political will to do it now, let's just get it done.

Trump and Musk want the debt ceiling removed so they can borrow massive amounts of money to extend the enormous tax cuts for themselves and their donors. These cuts have already added $3 trillion to the deficit. Imagine the damage they could do if there were no ceiling at all!

I agree. The eliminated debt ceiling is to enrich Trump's cabinet members and buddies at the expense of taxpayers. It would be the biggest wealth redistribution (to few at the top) in American history.

I guess I should not be surprised anymore, but the level of arse kissing and bowing down to dear leader is overwhelming... Trump's not even yet in the WH, and Elon Musk is what? and there they are, the good ol' Republicans scurrying around trying their very best to get Trump and friends' wishes fulfilled.

If you see someone getting arrested with a box at the steps of the Capitol, it'll be me with a box of golden kneepads with a sign that says "Merry Chirstmas, GOP. You'll need these the next 4 years"

Then the time to address that is during appropriations/budget negotiations. It's dumb to have a debt ceiling not tied to the budget. Otherwise, you get the threat of defaulting on our obligations (set during the budget cycle).
