Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

Just finished watching the entire Harris-Walz rally in PA. Here are a few of my thoughts:

I think Walz is a better complement to Harris than Shapiro. I'm not saying one is better than the other, I just think Harris and Walz fit better. Also, Shapiro can get away with at times screaming with the same intensity that sunk Howard Dean as her surrogate. He can't do that as her VP.

I encourage everyone to watch the video of Walz saying that he'd love to debate Vance if he'd get off his couch while focusing on Harris the whole time. Harris had no idea Walz was going to say the get off the couch bit. Watch her reaction. She was in tears for a minute or two trying to keep herself from bursting out in laughter. She did not see that line coming and she loved it. That's important in their partnership. They are going to work mostly off of script, but they will occasionally adlib and they need to so they stay genuine and spontaneous. It's important that they are still in sync when they go off script.

I've decided I don't want to see Harris debate Trump or Walz debate Vance. What I want to see is Harris-Walz in a team debate against Trump-Vance. That's the top draw billing to me.

After the rally was over, Harris and Walz walk into the crowd of people and interact with them. The Secret Service detail was visibly and understandably stressed by that. What struck me is that I've never seen Trump do that with the plebes, or to use Trump's vocabulary, "suckers." I've never seen Trump do that even before he was shot at and here's Harris and Walz doing it after Trump was shot at.

Harris and Walz would have to destroy the world before the election to lose to Trump and Vance. Very few rural or "middle" Americans are going to buy that a state champion football coach is an extreme liberal socialist. When Trump, Vance and the fascists Republicans see that angle won't work, then they will insult Walz in a way that will piss off almost every rural and "middle" American" white male. That will shatter their delusions that Trump cares about the middle class and that he's their champion.

The whole rally:

This is from 2020:

Her VP pick only emphasizes this now. She picked grandpa to be VP.

Kamala dances with kids, always has... Alway will... .

A literal waltz with kids. An that brings us to the grand pun. Tim Walz... .

I'm the king of puns. And Walz is our national grandfather. Harris is slick... I'm proud of her.

This is exciting. And Holdsom.

Not Newsom.

The guy in this photo is six years younger than me. Like Patrick Stewart, Wilford looked the same age for decades.

If you look up Cocoon, Brimley was like 20 years younger then all the other elderly actors. He was only 51 when the movie was released, and didn't look a day over 65.

That's where the photo's from.

Criminally underrated movie, IMHO.

I keep hearing the GOP say every candidate is the most liberal ever. If everyone is the most liberal, is anyone the most liberal.

Also, stock market futures are up, from what I’m seeing the losses will be erased today, especially with yesterdays strong day.

This is getting a bit of attention

Seems clips of him making a sure fire pick that backfires appear regularly on daily show or John Oliver

Got to agree with that. Cramer is an idiot.

So, we have this…

The “Carry Trade” which is borrowing in one currency at low rates and buying assets in a different currency at better rates. Basically, financial tapdancing. Hedge funds were and are heavily involved. Much of this was money borrowed in Yen which had rates of zero to near-zero and buying assets in dollars or other currencies. Japan then raised its rates slightly and all hell broke loose because such trades suffer from the madness of crowds and the players sought to unwind trades at the same time. This causes asset prices to collapse making getting rid of them harder. There is still more unwinding to come.

So, no, it was not due to Biden/Harris and economic policy.

It’s the summer of weird Republicans. GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump repeatedly mentions Hannibal Lecter at his rallies, speaking about the fictional cannibal as though he were a real person. “He’s a lovely man. He’d love to have you for dinner,” must be one of the strangest things a candidate has said while trying to attract votes.

Meanwhile, Sen. JD Vance, Trump’s running mate, has made news with his bizarre opinions, including a 2021 remark that Americans with children should be able to vote more times in an election than their childless compatriots.

Even Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the independent candidate for president who met with Trump to discuss the possibility of dropping out of the race, admitted to dumping a bear carcass in Central Park a decade ago. (“We thought it would be amusing for whoever found it,” he claimed.)

“These guys are just weird,” Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said last week on “Morning Joe.” That label has stuck ever since, to the right’s frustration and fury. Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic nominee, has seized the messaging advantages of “weird,” and on Tuesday she even named Walz to the ticket.

For scholars of authoritarianism, the success of “weird” is no surprise. That’s because humor has long been one of the most effective weapons of anti-authoritarian politics. Behind the facade of their omnipotence, most strongmen are brittle and insecure personalities. They don’t mind being called evil, but being ridiculed is a different matter.

When fringe beliefs become mainstream, it’s easy to accept a political environment where the surreal and the extreme are everyday affairs. That’s how we get to Fox News host Jesse Watters telling viewers that “scientists” believe that “when a man votes for a woman, he actually transitions into a woman.” The misogyny and transgender phobia that may have inspired this proclamation are no joke, but the opportunity for satire at the ridiculous statement should not be missed.

Strongmen have their own sadistic sense of humor, which is amply displayed in the awful authoritarian spectacles staged by their governments. The Nazis enjoyed making Communists who entered Dachau concentration camp in 1933, like Hans Beimler, wear signs that said “A hearty welcome!”

But they cannot take a joke when they are the targets. That’s why they have to surround themselves with sycophants and lackeys, and their enablers know their prestige must be policed.

When a man brought his pet rabbit named Mussolini to a bar in fascist Italy, thinking others would enjoy seeing him order it around, he was quickly arrested and served a year in confinement..............

Great ad with it going back to the question:

Are you better off than you were 4 years ago?

That is a resounding NO for many people and the #1 reason why Trump wins in November.

Since media consistently fails at its primary job it is unsurprising that some people fall prey to charlatanism as you have.

Trump loses in November because racism and misogyny can only carry the Republican Party so far.

As for economics? The recent drop of 2+% in the DJIA underscores multiple issues which you seem to either ignore or simply fail to understand. Financial “engineering” develops products and processes which by nature tend to destabilize the political economy. The latest to cause havoc was the carry trade which I mentioned elsewhere. The ignition point was Japan which mean Biden/Harris policies had nothing to do with it. The computerized trading kicked in as well as traders themselves. Liquidating assets leads to deflation of those assets due to fear response.

As for inflation? Inflation itself is a psychological response. The only tool that would be deemed palatable would be jacking interest rates like what happened in the ‘80’s. I lived through that. I had a mortgage that was 10% and thought I had a great deal. There were plenty of people who had much higher rates. Yet raising rates also causes recession which is what happened in the ‘80’s. The only other thing would price control. You and every other Republican would scream like stuck pigs if that were suggested. Republicans want the non-existent free market and then recoil in mock horror when the results don’t suit their greed for power.

Do the country and the world a favor and don’t vote.

This is the NYT poll of polls. Harris is now in front but the biggest trend that jumps out is Trump is flat. He isn’t losing votes, Harris is gaining them. Some people have said Trump peaked and that is what this shows. There needs to be more time to see if that changes but if the independents and unsure democrats who didn’t like Biden’s age keep coming over, there won’t be a chance for Trump.
Dems win if they turnout. That has always been true for Presidential elections.

Yeah, the only thing they've kept since the Reagan era is their voodoo trickle down economics. Always got to cut takes for the billionaire class and increase wealth inequality.
