Today it begins, Kamala has reached the point that she's the Democratic Party nominee:

There's video from today. this link has video from her first public appearance since Biden endorsed her:

She spent yesterday on the telephone for most of the day. I read that yesterday that she called the party leaders in all 50 states. That would take me three days.

She's renamed her YouTube channel, that's the where to go for video: https://www.youtube.com/@kamalaharris

This is her video on her channel from two hours ago:

To play it, start it, and then move it up to 5:47. This was one of those live videos which don't start at zero.

I've named this thread General Election 2024 Harris vs Trump

Trump needs an introduction post as well, a MAGA suporter ought to write it: @Farb, @SaintForLife , @Others, calling for someone to please introduce your GOP candidate for this 2024 general election thread.

Eliminate as in no more voting? Doubtful

More of a stacking of the deck so the outcome is very much in their favor
Well the way the left is reacting & claiming Trump said there won't be any more elections isn't accurate.

You don't seem too concerned with your party rigging 3 straight Presidential primaries and now picking Harris without receiving a single vote from actual voters. Delegates don't count. Delegates are supposed to cast their vote for whoever their state voted for. Zero voters from any states voted for Harris.

Why is the left only concerned about democracy when it involves Republicans? Probably because protecting democracy is nothing more than a campaign slogan.

Why on earth would a politician tell people after this next election you won’t have to vote ever again? That makes zero sense, unless you are planning to change laws so that your side cannot lose. That’s what he meant. The feeble excuse being put forth is a joke. In a real representative democracy voting is always important. It’s only not needed in authoritarian regimes.

Quit spouting talking points to try to excuse promised authoritarianism.
Either he is going to eliminate elections or try to extend his term (or thinks he can) or he is old and can’t get formulate his statements correctly.

He's already tried stealing one election
An army of his supporters stormed the United States Capitol
Asked Georgia to 'find' 11K votes (wouldn't be surprised if he asked other states also call just not on tape)
    Fake elector scheme
    Openly admires dictators
Says he'll be a dictator for 'one day'
Publicly mused about staying in office past election term
He and his supporters have disparaged and threatened election volunteers (many of whom have quit after doing it for 30 years, offices understaffed)
Laws passed to make it harder to register to vote
Laws passed to ban voting registration drives
Laws passed to ban "souls to the polls" targeting a specific group of people
Laws passed to ban giving food, water or chairs to people waiting in hours long lines
Eliminating number of election sites so there will be more hours long waits (take a guess where that happens most often)
Easier for some jurisdictions to toss people off voting rolls
Laws passed to make it easier for citizens to challenge validity of people being on the voting rolls
Harder and time consuming to get back on voting rolls after kicked off (which may come after the election - 'you're right, you should have been able to vote, oops, our bad')
Easier for some voting boards not to certify the vote or outright change the outcome if there is 'reasonable suspicion' of voter fraud, which of course there will because they've been screaming nonstop about it for 4 years, no matter that there is no evidence of any large scale, widespread fraud
    Voter intimation at voting sites
Gerrymandered maps, using biased maps in defiance of court rulings
A plan to basically dismantle the government as we've known it for decades and remake it in a very specific image
A highly ideological and partisan Supreme Court who has already shown a willingness to toss out decades of precedence and settled law

When someone responsible, encouraging or benefiting from all this says to his largest most consistent and reliable voting block you won't have to vote again to me he meant one of two things either there will be literally no more elections or more likely he meant if they win this time around they'll put things in place so they won't have to worry about the outcome of future "elections"

Someone responsible, encouraging or benefiting from all this gets no benefit of the doubt from me

Even if he had said "I'm asking for your vote, one last time" which would be true if elected he couldn't run for a third time, (and would be a much better comment than 'you won't have to vote again') I'd still give a raised eyebrow to that comment
Thank you for getting there and making this post! It's plainly obvious that there's been a concerted effort to subvert democracy across this country by the GOP, there's a thread here discussing these multiple efforts. I didn't want to waste my time revisiting those efforts, only for him to outright dismiss them or ignore them.

    Case and point:
Are you saying that's how Trump could eliminate elections or just some talking points?
    :freak7:

Sorry to tell you, but Joe isn't making any posts on X. That's someone from Biden's staff.
You've been making it quite a habit, this telling folks stuff. A little of that goes a long way.

Talking with folks is what's special. Folks generally like to be talked with.

But they generally resist being told stuff. Like you're doing with me now.

You're not going to be very pop, PoP, POPULAR, you keep this telling folks this weird stuff.

    ========================

.............Perhaps the only issue that has bridged the divide between Democrats and Republicans is the recognition that the president is old. Biden is 81, and he moves through his days like a man who has carried burdens, tackled problems and endured — and enjoyed — the full measure of what life has thrown at him.

As measured by charts and graphs, he is not aging badly as far as the public knows. Indeed, one public health expert described him as a “super ager,” someone who is facing fewer age-related medical issues than others of his generation. But the president’s blood pressure is a poor retort to the signs of aging that are in plain sight. Biden is getting older in the era of social media and relentless scrutiny.

And he’s doing so without bluster and bravado. He’s not aging like a petulant rock star with a girlfriend several decades younger on his arm. He’s not running marathons or winning championships in rowing. He isn’t bellowing from a lectern for 90 minutes at a time.

That’s what Donald Trump, his likely opponent in the November election, is doing. The former president spends much of his time belittling others, boastfully repeating lies, characterizing himself as a martyr in the face of his many legal woes and throwing monkey wrenches into a congressional system that already barely functions.

Trump, at 77, is not much younger than Biden. And like Biden, he misspeaks, screws up names and rambles his way through speeches. But Trump is a blustering, angry old man who performs a version of masculinity that’s immediately recognizable and, in some quarters, still admired as a sign of vibrancy. His is the kind of masculinity that once defined superhero blockbusters and spy thrillers and still drives cop shows such as “Blue Bloods.”

He plays the outlier who saves the day by ignoring the rules or intentionally breaking them. He offers up a Clint Eastwood version of masculinity that’s defined by toughness, meanness and chest-beating. That definition might be old-fashioned, but in terms of age, it remains stubbornly vigorous.

Trump isn’t defying age. He’s grabbed onto hands and handrails as he minced his way down ramps and steps. He’s brayed about Jan. 6, 2021, and Nikki Haley, his last remaining opponent for the Republican presidential nomination, when he really meant Pelosi. He camouflages his age behind a facade of cartoon masculinity. A version of masculinity that’s just another form of Botox and filler. It distracts from the truth, but it doesn’t erase it...........

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — Osama Siblani’s phone won’t stop ringing.

Just days after President Joe Biden withdrew his bid for reelection and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic presidential nomination, top officials from both major political parties have been asking the publisher of the Dearborn-based Arab American News if Harris can regain the support of the nation’s largest Muslim population located in metro Detroit.

His response: “We are in listening mode.”

Harris, who is moving to seize the Democratic nomination after Biden stepped down, appears to be pivoting quickly to the task of convincing Arab American voters in Michigan, a state Democrats believe she can’t afford to lose in November, that she is a leader they can unite behind.

Community leaders have expressed a willingness to listen, and some have had initial conversations with Harris’ team. Many had grown exasperated with Biden after they felt months of outreach had not yielded many results.

“The door is cracked open since Biden has stepped down,” said Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud. “There’s an opportunity for the Democratic nominee to coalesce the coalition that ushered in Biden’s presidency four years ago. But that responsibility will now fall on the vice president.”………

One can say he's full of shirt and he won't fix everything, but disingenuous to claim he was talking about eliminating elections.
Well, you have the first part right. But you whiffed on the second. He didn’t say he was eliminating elections, so don’t put that straw man up. He said they wouldn’t need to vote. In a democracy, if you want to be represented, you always have to vote. No politician ever tells people in a democracy to not vote.

Why would he tell his biggest fans they won’t ever have to vote again? Because the elections will be more like the ones in authoritarian countries. Where the actual vote doesn’t matter, because the authoritarian always wins. That’s his dream, he’s been very clear about it. He wants what Xi has, what Putin has, what Kim has in NK.

When he tried to steal the last election, he loses all benefit of the doubt. If he gets in power, he won’t be giving it up, he’ll be passing it down to one of his sons, or another hand-picked successor. Someone purchased by the billionaires just like Trump is.
