Election Night (+4) in America - Result: Biden Elected President (8 Viewers)

Waking up this morning to find that we are still not out of this mess is depressing to the 10th degree, to know that after four years of this monkey sling in his feces all over the country and still people want four more years of this is mine boggling, I only hope that the mail in ballots prove me wrong. There still isn’t a definitive answer on whether or not we flip the Senate. This alone does not give me the warm and fuzzies.

Regardless of the presidential outcome, the slim margin of the election certainly means that nearly half of America supported another term for Donald Trump as president.

It means something. What, I'm not yet sure. I don't want to be flip about it. People I know and respect, even people I love voted for Trump - some of whom because they simply cannot stomach key Democrat policies (on tax, business regulation, the social 'safety net', etc.). These things go to their core identity and even though they would agree that Donald Trump's rhetoric and policies (in some areas) have genuinely damaged the United States, and that he has terribly mismanaged the Covid crisis, they still choose Trump over the Democrat. And it's always going to be that way.

    🤷‍♂️

AOC was saying how the (D) party has a lot of work to do to engage with and capture the hispanic votes. I agree, and especially going forward... I remember something a while back, in 50 years, will amount to around 30% of the US population. They can't keep ignoring that segment or taking it for granted.

Gameday threads are only supposed to last 4 hours at most. I guess this election less a football game than a cricket match.

As a keen fan of cricket with a propensity to sit in the stands for an entire test match, I promise you that a close victory late on the fifth day is all the more enjoyable and memorable than a quick one day game that is over within eight hours.

Oh, I think Bernie would have won in 2016. Would have been close, but Bernie flips Michigan and Wisconsin imo. 2020, not so sure it would be much different, but Biden may get both Wisconsin and Michigan, so the point would be moot this year.
I think the communist/socialist attacks would have landed harder on Bernie who -- for as much as I like him -- is really stubborn about praising certain parts of Castro's regime and other things that you really just shouldn't say out loud. I also imagine he would not have gotten the same amount of cross-over GOP votes that Biden got.

All Sanders was doing was recognizing a reality, and in no way praising Castro. It's America's fault if we're too dumb to read past big headlines with scary pictures.

I don't disagree but, again, the optics of some of the stuff he said were just bad. I respect the fact he isn't concerned with image but you sort of have to be when you're running for President and the other side is denouncing you as a communist.

Too dumb being the key to that statement. People believe there are going to be late term abortions if Biden becomes president. Fear is illogical.

I read somehting recently that said Hispanics like Trump becuase they perceive him as ‘macho’ and ‘masculine’.. I just- he’s an obese, soft old guy who would never have gotten a second look from women in his life if not for the money he was born into.. It reminds me of what’s also been said about Trump before: “He’s a poor guy’s version of what a rich guy is.. and he’s a dumb guy’s version of what a smart guy is’.. I guess now we can add: ‘He’s an insecure guy’s version of what a macho guy is.’

What people hear and what people say are two different things, and always has been. We can complain about people being too stupid to understand nuance or whatever, but that doesn't do us any good. We can't control what other people do, only our own actions, so if you want different results, try different strategies.

For the Cuban Americans - I don't know how much of an outreach there is, but I would suggest comparing Trump's authoritarian streak to Castro's. Spin the narrative that Cubans didn't leave the Communist regime because of universal health care, but because of an oppressive regime that squashed freedom. Biden can target his message that better health care means more economic freedom for everyone. Compare Trump's law and order message to an oppressive state ala Castro - those sorts of things.

This - there are SO many women I know in the South whose only issue they vote on is abortion. They may not like Trump but they can’t vote for a Democrat because being pro life is all they see (or at least that’s all they vote on). It’s really sad.

It has always seemed apparent to me that typical GOP platform should appeal to portion of the Latino electorate. Latinos are not a monolith (no race/heritage is) and while many may share in the same urban ideals and interests that lead other Americans to vote more for Democrats, many Latinos are small-business minded and with strong (often Catholic) faith that can take a political tinge. It always seemed odd to me that Republicans haven't done better with Latinos than they have - and most of that was probably due to some really unfortunate immigration views and the fact that many Republicans were just overtly suspicious of Latinos.

Give Trump credit that for whatever reason, yes perhaps it is his big persona, it appears that he has done better in the Latino vote than most GOP candidates before him.

I think you're right, and as usual, it's illogical, since he's a "macho guy" that was afraid to serve in Vietnam due to bone spurs.

See amendment 1 passing in LA. Kiss reproductive rights good bye in LA. Makes me sick.

This is the person I am following for MIV. Look at the Atlanta on time mail delivery, a state that has Election Day cutoff for vote counting. Michigan and Arizona are ED cutoff states.
