Election Night (+4) in America - Result: Biden Elected President (10 Viewers)

I think people give the woke stuff more influence than it deserves. I don't think many people who were going to vote for a Dem didn't because of wokeness. That's more of a social media debate topic than anything with real-world implication.

I do think riots and looting give the Republicans a talking point that works with rural white America. "We will defend you from the animals that want to destroy your culture" is the kind of message with real-world implications.

That gap makes me think it's highly likely that MI, WI, and PA margins will once again be razor thin.

Late to this thread, GA is actually still in play. This won't be decided until tomorrow. GA, and PA has to still count a huge amount of liberal votes. NY times is actually favoring Biden slightly in GA.

isn't there also something about consolidation? A lot of "like minded" groups tend to pack together. That is good for the individual, but it doesn't bode well for the whole of the country

So there's only bad timing for racial reckoning and never good timing?

I think racial reckoning should come when it comes. That said, the reckoning wasn't the issue. The issue was how it was managed. There's an organic component to it, but there's also a planning and public perception aspect of it that needed to be cultivated and win people over to the cause. I'm not sure that there was enough time or what would have happened if it happened 6 months earlier or later. But the aftermath and subsequent rioting and watching all of the stuff that went on in DC, Seattle and elsewhere had an impact on people.

The people I talked to would wonder aloud that it was all too much and the Covid situation just made it worse. I don't know if that perfect storm scared people or what, but I do think all of the turmoil got people's attention, and the fear campaign strategy worked.

I didn't like it, and I thought more people would reject it, but it's disappointing that wasn't nearly the case. I don't think this is over yet though. We might not know for a few more days.

Looking like Greenfield might not unseat Earnest. Dems get AZ, CO, ME but lose AL leaving them at 49. Are we hoping for MT?

And the Republicans would have just beat the "they want to let in rapist immigrants" drum to rile up rural white America just as much.

At some point, we have to stop blaming and demanding different behavior from the targets of racism and start blaming and demanding different behavior from those who let themselves be manipulated by racists. The ire is completely misplaced.

The Social Dilemma is a great documentary for anyone who hasn't watched it. Be warned though, you will probably delete your social media after watching it.

Just want to point out that with only about 70% counted, Biden is up 5MILLION VOTES on the west coast. Glad we have to listen to the south. We provide all the money, farming, resources and tech but they get to pick the President and we get 6 Senators and have 35% of the population. Totally fair system we have

The two Georgia seats are still in play too right?
Depends on the pending votes but as of right now the Special Election is set for a run off but Perdue currently leads in the other election. In Montana, Bullock is running four or so points ahead of Biden but still losing. I wouldn't hold out hope there.

It was managed as well as could be. The intentional sabotaging and inciting to riot campaign carried white by supremacists and extreme right authoritarians is what caused almost all of the problems. If one is blaming the people seeking racial equality, they're blaming the wrong group of individuals.

A bit of a tangent, but hey, we've got all night.

Hair metal is a bit of a guilty indulgence of mine. I once travelled to Florida to go on a Monsters of Rock cruise in 2015 (remember cruises?). I follow a bunch of those musicians on socials. Of course, guys like Sebastian Bach, Paul Stanley, Axl Rose et al are all over social media encouraging people to vote blue which seems to directly contradict the political views of their hardcore fanbase.

I am seeing some editorialising from people in response to that, including comments to the effect that lawlessness and violence is a result of rap music and "urban culture". I eventually asked someone the extent to which rap music could be implicated in the plot to kidnap the governor of Michigan. They "lol'd" and made some vague, imprecise observation about "both sides".

Also, Wild Side by Motley Crue, Civil War by Guns N Roses, War Pigs by Sabbath ... they're hardly Imagine by John Lennon, are they?

In any event, my sense is that you are 100% right. Racially-motivated rural whites seem to be showing up in much greater proportion than other voter groups.
