It looks like the first shoe has dropped with the Durham investigation with the Clinesmith plea deal. Clinesmith wasn't a low level FBI employee involved in the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.

He worked with Strzok to arrange sending an FBI agent into Trump-Flynn briefing, was on the Mueller team, he took part in the Papadopoulos interviews, and he participated in the FISA process.

    From the NYT article:

I wonder who else knew about the lies?

He was only impeached twice, imo he deserved it first of all because of clear obstruction outlined by Mueller. He could have been impeached a whole lot, lol, he’s lucky they only did it twice.

Is the goal of impeachment to virtue signal for political gain or win and remove the official? Seems like the D's were not even on the same page.

It's supposed to be to remove the official, but politics tends to get in the way of justice when the process is dominated by political discourse.

To remove the official, silly. We desperately needed actual leadership that wasn’t based on personal political gain, but the Rs wouldn’t stand up to a clearly corrupt POTUS. Even Pence (gag) would have probably done a better job with Covid than Trump.

Maybe, but Covid response was basically Pence's baby, unless he just got his marching orders from Trump. So, hard to say.

Well, they announced it was Pence, but true to form there were’t any real boundaries. Trump jumped in whenever he thought it would make him look good and Jared jumped in whenever he could figure out how to make a buck. And this isn’t really an endorsement of Pence, I think he’s too weak to do much, but I would assume he would have let the experts do the work unlike Trump, who couldn’t resist putting his fat little fingers into everything.

Agreed. We all would have been better off with Pence as President rather than Trump. Oh well, hindsight and all that.

Well, apparently, people are still getting it and dying from it. In smaller numbers, but it's still out there.
A lot of things are killing people, but I do get what you saying.

We were discussing the way the previous administration handled the pandemic. But you knew that, unless you cannot read at all. So you decided to go with the snark. Yay for you, I guess. 🙄

    BOTH SIDES!
I do have a question. Why is it taboo to bring up the failings of both Reps and Dems? Are we to be so anchored to a party (that has failed everyone...yes, both parties) that we are to never admit that 'our team' sucks too? Honest question.

I don’t see it as taboo to bring up valid criticisms. What the “both sides” refers to is the sometimes pretty desperate attempt to take smaller failings of the current administration and make it equal to the complete shirt show that the Republican Party has put on these past 5-6 years, especially concerning Trump.

We see it often. Not just on this board, but by Republicans in general. They failed to say anything when Trump was trying to destroy our concept that the losing party in an election will concede and peacefully transition to a new administration. Heck, a whole lot of them tried to help him overturn the election results. Something like Jan. 6 has never happened before in our history and now they want to just downplay it or pretend it never happened.

Let’s face it, Trump is the most corrupt person we have ever had in the WH, bar none. And Biden is going to benefit somewhat from comparison for a while. And while I agree with you that both parties have failed Americans, I only see one party that is trying to put policies in place that will help reverse some of the economic damage done to the middle class. And the other party is warring with Disney and legislating rights away and banning books. Nothing that will actually help us and most of which is a gross exaggeration used to distract their constituents from the actual problems while their donor continue to enrich themselves. Heck, Republicans don’t even have policy positions anymore according to McConnell. Well, except Rick Scott, who wants to raise all our taxes by quite a bit and sunset Medicare and Social Security every five years.

Because they aren't the same. They're both guilty of a lot of things, but only one party actually attempted to invalidate a legitimate election and attempted to break into the Capitol and disrupt a normally ceremonial process of certifying election results.

Wake me up when the Democrats do that in the next Presidential election.

It's not taboo. But you also can't ignore the weight of the scales. I have readily admitted Biden's numerous failings in multiple threads on this forum and thoroughly believe this country was at an inflection point when the DNC establishment crowned Hillary in 2016 when Bernie would have comfortably beaten Trump (at least in the three states that mattered).

That said, you will never convince me that Biden's failings amount to the catastrophic damage Trump perpetuated and continues to perpetuate on this country. These Hunter Biden stories are relatively garden variety corruption. It's not good, but it's not undermining democracy and spreading conspiracy theories.

And, no, I don't have the luxury of voting for a Libertarian (nor do I believe for one second that SFL votes for anyone other than Trump in 2024). You can thank the Founding Fathers and the absolutely horrendous system of government they formed. Sadly we are shackled to what a bunch of male landed gentry believed was ideal two hundred and fifty years ago. If we had a parliamentary system like say... oh... every other developed society in the West, then it would be a different story.

American exceptionalism is a myth. America is only exceptional in its obsession with guns and belief in angels.

I started off agreeing with you then it turned dark. LOL. Thanks for the reply. I understand kind of.

I will disagree about American exceptionalism of course.
