    Everything I've seen and heard says that the split second Donald Trump is no longer president there will be flood of charges waiting for him

    And if he resigns and Pence pardons him there are a ton of state charges as an understudy waiting in the wings if the fed charges can't perform

    What do you think the likelihood of there being a jail sentence?

    In every movie and TV show I've ever seen, in every political thriller I've ever read about a criminal and corrupt president there is ALWAYS some version of;

    "We can't do that to the country",

    "A trial would tear the country apart",

    "For the nation to heal we need to move on" etc.

    Would life imitate art?

    Even with the charges, even with the proof the charges are true will the powers that be decide, "we can't do that to the country"?

    Appropriately, nothing is loading for me. It's blank, white, and lacks the ability to form a coherent sentence- just like Trump and his legal team.

    Among the documents disclosed in a Justice Department filing last night in the case involving former President Donald Trump’s possession of classified documents is a striking photograph, one showing documents marked secret and top secret strewn across the floor of Mar-a-Lago.

    When the search of Trump’s home by the FBI was first announced, conservatives howled that the former president was a target of political persecution. That accusation was without basis, but it was also not impossible that the bureau might have abused its powers in its pursuit of a warrant to search Trump’s home. In truth, Trump’s defenders seemed less convinced by their accusations against the FBI than by their own conviction that Trump himself is above the law.

    Retaining classified documents is not even close to the worst thing Trump has done. We are, after all, speaking of a man who twice tried to subvert the democratic process, first by using foreign aid in an attempt to blackmail Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky into falsely implicating then–Democratic rival Joe Biden in a crime, and later by attempting to use a mob to seize power by force after bureaucratic means failed.

    But those were both overtly political acts, subject to distortions of perception and emphasis, and this one is rather more straightforward. It is illegal to “knowingly” remove “such documents or materials without authority and with the intent to retain such documents or materials at an unauthorized location.” The photograph of documents emblazoned secret removes any ambiguity as to whether Trump was in possession of classified documents. If it were anyone else, they would be prosecuted.

    If that claim sounds familiar, it’s because Republicans once offered a similar refrain about Hillary Clinton, Trump’s Democratic rival in the 2016 election. Trump led crowds in chants of “Lock her up!” demanding that Clinton be imprisoned for her mishandling of classified information in email communications. Republicans, at the time, considered the mishandling of such information very serious, as did the press, which devoted front-page coverage to the federal investigation into the matter in the months leading up to the election. Indeed, since the Trump revelations, right-wing media outlets like Fox News have compared Trump’s treatment unfavorably with Clinton’s, suggesting that she got off easy...........

    If Trump has committed a prosecutable federal crime, refusing to prosecute him will not solve this problem. Quite the contrary, it would encourage his more radical followers by making clear that they can intimidate the majority into bending to their demands.

    This is not to say that prosecuting Trump would solve this dilemma either. There are no quick and easy solutions to any of the problems presented by a large segment of the population embracing the authoritarian belief that only their political faction can legitimately hold power. But if the law itself must bend to threats of political violence, then the democracy you are trying to preserve is effectively already lost...........

    is it okay and time to be cautiously optimistic that THIS is the thing that brings about the downfall of Donald Trump and the dissolution of his MAGA cult?
    Maybe the downfall of Trump, but wishful thinking on the MAGA cult. We all know it'll get worse before it gets better with that cult. They will double down, and i have no doubt they will take violence to the streets.

    DeSantis is ten times worse and is waiting in the wings.
    And he will scoop them up. But we all know Trumps biggest flaw (politically) is he just can't keep his mouth shut. If he had that ability, he probably would have won a second term with ease. The stupidity than comes out of his mouth daily attracks the brainless like flies to honey.

    Yeah most people are starting to realize he’s forked.

    Steve motherforking Doocy was saying about “how” didn’t matter. “Why” did he have “the most closely guarded secrets in the world” (his words) was his question. And when Steve Doocy starts asking real questions, you know you’re forked.

    Perspective on the importance of keeping secrets secret. That orange jackass and Kushner exposed these operatives. Fork anyone who still support them.

    if the Feds et al can somehow connect Trump/Kusher to the death/capture of assets in ANY foreign country, and prove it, they must be dealt the ultimate penalty.

    Im still holding on to the belief that they did not, but its waning fast.

    We don't even know if any of the documents Trump had would expose sources.

    They probably did, but for all we know it was just transcripts of tapped phone calls from world leaders having phone sex.

    I think operatives who are exposing themselves on twitter are just doing it for the clicks.

    Some of this is a bit worrying - but you can't always tell by a judge's comments how they will rule. Often they rule the opposite of what you thought the comments meant (and they were actually fleshing out the other side's response).

    for what it's worth
    ======================
    (Bloomberg) -- Former President Donald Trump should be prosecuted over his handling of classified documents after his departure from the White House, according to half of Americans, a Quinnipiac University poll shows.

    As details are released about the FBI’s recovery of material from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida, the poll found 50% of those surveyed say Trump should face criminal charges, while 41% do not.

    Among Republicans, fewer than 10% say Trump should be charged. But 85% of Democrats and 52% of independent voters say he should, according to the survey of 1,584 US adults conducted between Aug. 25 and Aug. 29. The results have a margin of error of plus or minus-2.5 percentage points...........

    There many articles out there that said mbs gloated after kushner handed him files. Then the purge occurred.

    Yes, it was known and reported at the time that MBS gloated that Kushner (soulless goon that he is) turned over the names of people known (to the IC) to be opposed to the Saudi royal family. And then MBS had lots of them arrested and purged. I don’t think it has been alleged in print that any of them were working with the US Intelligence Community. But it’s not far-fetched, is it?
