    Several prominent Democratic figures are set to speak at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this month, two sources familiar with the plans told NBC News.

    President Joe Biden, former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have been confirmed as speakers at the convention. Obama and the Clintons delivered speeches during the 2020 DNC, which was largely held virtually to prevent the spread of Covid-19 amid the pandemic.

    A source familiar said that former President Jimmy Carter’s grandson Jason Carter is also confirmed to be speaking as a representative for his grandfather…….

    Trump was on Fox and friends and questioned that Tim Walz was a coach.

    Trump called Walz a “lightweight” and mocked his background as a high school football coach. “They call him coach,” he said. “He’s a semi-coach, if he coached some football for a little while.”

    What the heck is a semi-coach. It is like 40 year old virgin when Steve Carell’s character talks about going to 2nd base. They feel like bags of sand. Trump wouldn’t know what is going on in a HS football team or the mentality of school kids with teachers who coach. The kids call every teacher who coaches (assistant or head coach) “Coach.”
    The GOP always says liberals are out of touch. Trump is on on the mother loving moon when it comes to relating to someone who has kids in a public school.

    he knows he cant go "all in" on Walz. So this is what he is left with.

    and it makes him look weak.
     
    The decorum used to be that during the opposing convention, the opposing party stay media dark. Trump broke that in 2016 and much more. Were Biden, his surrogates and the dems stay media dark during the rnc?

    There are few schools of thought here. One is that we're so polarized that there won't be a significant polling jump coming out of the convention, even with how good it's been (similar to what happened to Trump/Vance after the Republican convention) . Another is that Harris/Walz have already gotten their polling jump with all the good vibe starting out and that there won't be a jump coming out of the conventions since they're already wrestled back parts of the Democratic base who had walked away form the party. The first two I guess kind of go together. The third is that both Harris and especially Walz are unfamiliar to American voters and that there could be a significant polling jump (given how well they convention has gone so far) that then becomes very difficult for Trump to win back.

    Because I'm feeling hopeful, I'm going with the third option and say a 4% polling jump nationally and maybe 2%-3% in battle ground states.

    I'd be shocked, but pleased, if it was as high as 4%. I'd say wait until Next week, after RFK and trump join forces, see where the needle moves after that. I wonder how many non-democrat-voters watched the DNC? I feel like most tuning-in were already aware of who Harris and Walz was (or were already going to vote D)

    People like my in-laws who vote republican more times than not watch. They dont like Trump and want to see the alternative.They are unsure about Kamala (at least my FIL is) and watching the DNC might help influence them to vote Dem for president at least.

    While there's no doubt that most people tuning in are already committed to voting for Harris/Walz, I can't help but feel there's still a good percentage that are tuning in that aren't committed but are persuadable. Even if they don't tune in to all of it, they catch parts of it and see viral moments in social media. The DNC have been very effective in creating an atmosphere at the convention this week that this is the "moment/party/future" that you don't want to miss out on, even if you have doubts. That can be a very powerful driver in getting voters committed to voting for you.

    That’s where Trump lives, though, in his own reality. He said yesterday at a campaign rally that Harris had met with Putin to try to convince him not to invade Ukraine - and that was 3 days before he invaded. All so he could say she did a crappy job. She never met with Putin, ever. She was in Europe for a conference, but Putin wasn’t there.

    And I haven’t seen much in the press about it. Worse there was a (I assume retired) general in attendance, who Trump addressed about his lie - “did you know that, General?” How can a military officer just go along with lies like this? Well, I guess we’ve seen some military officers lie about Walz too.

    Just makes me sick to see people prostituting themselves like this. So many people in the GOP have just abased themselves over Trump. How can they come back to normality?

    Coming from the crowd that cheered as Trump openly mocked the posture of a physically disabled man back in 2016, none of this is beneath them.

    I will add to this as I hear more.

    Beyoncé is scheduled to introduce Harris. There is still a gap in the schedule for a guest and nobody seems to know who it is.

    Pink will be performing. She is not the mystery guest.
