"What do I say to that...?".........................................................snip..............................................
My niece is out of school with Covid. I encouraged her to watch the Judge's confirmation hearing, thinking it could be an uplifting experience for a young black female teenager. She texts me, rather disgusted, asking why did I want her to watch "some white men talk down to a black woman and accuse her of being nice to people who hurt kids." I'm like surely that isn't all you saw or heard. She's like no but it was hard to be proud of her seeing her talked to like that every few hours.
What do I say to that...?
I would say - everyone who watched could see who was the principled adult and who were the hateful children. That they just exposed themselves as people not worth noticing and she was a wonderful role model. Her grace under pressure was phenomenal.Sadly, this whole ordeal just reinforces to persons who look like me that no matter how successful you become, no matter what heights you ascend to, there will always be a portion of this country that will always see us as naggers. This is more than political theater and partisan bickering. This is a very pointed, coordinated attempt to paint this woman as a pedophile sympathizer, just an absolutely vile thing to do. Without merit.

Yeah, it was utterly embarrassing. That said, I would just focus on the strong black woman who was graceful, acted like a SCOTUS nominee and didn't run away when asked stupid and only occasionally, tough questions. If she were my mom, sister or daughter, I'd be incredibly proud. I mean, I'm not even a Democrat and I'm proud of how she carried herself in that room. She's the most qualified Justice nominee in a long while.Sadly, this whole ordeal just reinforces to persons who look like me that no matter how successful you become, no matter what heights you ascend to, there will always be a portion of this country that will always see us as naggers. I think I'd be in favor of removing the TV cameras from these hearings. Or at least limit them to one day. The stupidity has just gotten ridiculous.
Also not in favor of adding them to the SC. I used to be, but not anymore. I don't think the media is influencing anything good in these hearings or in most court rooms. Although I do think that cameras in police brutality cases can encourage accountability because if the public awareness.

Yes, and incredibly disrespectful.I would hate to see the cameras removed from these hearings. That said though it is true that Cruz, Graham, et al, are talking to their constitutes or potential constituents via the TV. They really aren't talking to Judge Jackson.
Ok Chuck. I'd like you to take a deep breath. Collect your thought, and tell us how you really feel. He’s been calling for that for weeks. He’s an absolute buffoon - the whole legal profession has been laughing about Tucker saying that somehow the LSAT shows who’s a “brilliant legal mind” (his words) and who isn’t. It’s part of getting into law school and then no one ever asks about it again.
But also no other judicial nominee is pressed about that so why does he think it’s so important now? He’s such a piece of shirt. Honestly, he knows it’s stupid but he thinks he can make it seem like some scandal and much of his audience will buy it. Because much of his audience is ignorant or stupid or both.
Tell her how she handled it with total class and ignored the garbage and just did her job. Doing that, exposes the fools for what they are.Sadly, this whole ordeal just reinforces to persons who look like me that no matter how successful you become, no matter what heights you ascend to, there will always be a portion of this country that will always see us as naggers. I would say it's hard to be proud of those who spoke to her that way but it's easy to be proud of her.

I just hope she got to see Cory Booker’s time too.

While she didn't deserve to sit through all that nonsense, it's worth it to see her become the first black woman Justice in our nation's history. It's well past time.
Thank you everyone.Tell her how she handled it with total class and ignored the garbage and just did her job. Doing that, exposes the fools for what they are.
Oh, I don’t know. Ohio is trying its best to catch up to Texas.Ted Cruz gets paid in KKK cash every time he says "Critical Race Theory".
Jesus, we have the worst representation in this state. How do people in this state vote for these idiots and then wake up in the morning.
