Hearings begin today. The smear has already started:

    You mean the wiseguy part?

"No!!!!! Really?!?!?!?!?!?!? Mind blown.... who knew."

The rest of the post from which you took the sentence you quoted.

You took half a sentence from a post I made, you gave it the meaning you wanted, then replied with a condescending "You do realize", then called me a "wiseguy". Golf clap.

Looks like Judge Jackson has cleared one hurdle. I wasn't really thinking Manchin would oppose her nomination, but I know some were concerned.

Sen. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.) said Friday that he intends to support President Biden’s nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, in a step toward ensuring Jackson’s confirmation.

Manchin, who has been a roadblock to some of Biden’s nominees and agenda items, announced his backing of Jackson in a statement one day after the Senate Judiciary Committee concluded its confirmation hearings.
“I am confident Judge Jackson is supremely qualified and has the disposition necessary to serve as our nation’s next Supreme Court Justice,” Manchin said.
Race hovered over Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearing
Manchin cited Jackson’s “exemplary” career and record and said that her various roles in the judicial system have provided her with “a unique perspective that will serve her well on our nation’s highest court.”

He also noted that Jackson and her family frequently visit Manchin’s home state of West Virginia.

“During our meeting, she was warm and gracious,” Manchin said. “On top of her impressive resume, she has the temperament to make an exceptional jurist. Notably, Judge Jackson and her family spend a great deal of time in West Virginia and her deep love of our state and commitment to public service were abundantly clear. I am confident Judge Jackson is supremely qualified and has the disposition necessary to serve as our nation’s next Supreme Court Justice.”

”Packing the court” is a bullschlitz term. It is also meaningless when applied to expanding the court as there is nothing stated regarding the number of justices. If anything McConnell is guilty of that in the manner in which he manipulated confirmations by flocking Obama.
I know. I'm trying my best to find SOME relevance in her opinion on the matter. If the democrats went wild and decided to add 15 more SCOTUS justices, that would be a matter for Congress. I assume that once they did that, the president would have to sign off on it.

However, I can't find any way that SCOTUS would be involved. The only possibility would be if someone challenged the action, but I don't see how it could rise to the level of the Supreme Court. I don't know how anyone can mount any kind of legal challenge against an action that the law allows (by not having any law against it).

Yeah, it's not like SCOTUS decides the number, so her opinion on it shouldn't matter. Of course, they asked her asked her all sorts of nonsensical questions. That whole charade was pretty much unwatchable.

No one in the public arena has moved me more than Judge Jackson since I watched Robert Kennedy talk, on tape, to a group of African Americans after MLK was assassinated. Her emotional honesty gave me more hope for this country than I've had in years.

As if McConnell was telling the truth. We all know he was never going to vote for a Democratic President's nominee and if there was a way he could deny/delay/obstruct until 2025, he'd do it in a heartbeat.
Oh I don't doubt it. Not that he has much choice with this nominee, fortunately.

    Very good article
    =============
She said the quiet part out loud.

In an opening statement before more cameras than she had probably ever faced, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson took a deep breath Monday and explained that she was “saving a special moment in this introduction for my daughters.”

With her girls seated behind her, she said, “I know it has not been easy as I have tried to navigate the challenges of juggling my career and motherhood. And I fully admit that I did not always get the balance right. But I hope that you have seen that with hard work, determination, and love, it can be done.”

I’m fairly certain womenfolk everywhere saw themselves in that statement and felt something deep inside their souls.

With a lifetime appointment to the highest court within her sights, Jackson put the spotlight on the constant fear that, as a mother, you’re not getting it right.

She gave voice to that gnawing worry that lives inside so many of us, that if anyone looked too closely behind the veneer of an orderly life, they might see something a little more raggedy around the edges.

That it was part of her prepared statementmakes this even more remarkable. She chose to bring the sometimes rickety confidence of a working woman’s psyche into a hearing room dominated by men who probably never figured out the schedules for snack week, music lessons or dental cleanings.

Women everywhere, whether they work outside the home or full time at home keeping it all intact, wrestle with the concern that the idealized standard of motherhood might be just beyond their reach. But here’s the thing: They rarely say that out loud…….

This thread is something. All the complaining about Republicans focusing on her supposed issue with sentencing for pedophiles after the Democrats along with most of you here accused or claimed Kavanaugh was a gang rapist. Their star witness couldn't even remember when or where it happened.

Talk about living in a bubble.

You're right. Let's just look at the qualifications. Jackson is much more qualified than Kavanaugh was at the time of his nomination. If we are only going to look at the qualifications (which I am completely in favor of), we can all agree she should be confirmed with an overwhelming vote of Republicans and Democrats supporting the nomination.

Indeed. Strictly based on qualifications, Jackson makes the last 2 justices look like amateurs.

So why do you live in a bubble? Are you able to get fresh air and clean water? Does the bubble have an emergency exit? I live in a house myself.

if you would honestly look back - you will find that, while I do believe the story that the witness told, I thought it was more of a goof by Kavanaugh. More of a way to humiliate someone who didn’t fit into their little clique than anything else. Hence the huge amount of laughter she remembered during it. But you’d rather paint a different picture. It’s just not an honest picture.

I actually don’t remember a single person here accusing him of “gang rape” nor do I believe that was alleged, but the point was made that there were sometimes gang rapes carried out in that timeframe and among the kids at that school. Just to point out what was evidently acceptable at that time.

So do you think the way the Republicans acted toward Jackson was acceptable?
