Figured we should start a separate thread on the arrests and those involved in the storming of the Capitol. I know it has been talked about in the other thread a lot, but for the ones who just want to follow the ones arrested and/or charged, this will be an easier way to see updates on the investigations.

Link below is everyone who has been arrested. But we know there will be more.

The website seems to be updated with new information daily.

The ones who are getting the most air time:

U.S. prosecutors this week put a price tag on damage to the U.S. Capitol from the Jan. 6 breach — $1.5 million so far — and for the first time are asking defendants to cover some of the bill in plea offers, prosecutors and defense lawyers said.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Washington cited the damage estimate Wednesday in court and in plea papers filed in the case of Paul Hodgkins, 38. The Tampa crane operator pleaded guilty to one felony count of obstructing an official proceeding of Congress and faces sentencing July 19 in Washington.

“Your client acknowledges that the riot that occurred on January 6, 2021, caused as of May 17, 2021, approximately $1,495,326.55 damage to the United States Capitol,” stated a plea agreement letter sent by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mona Sedky and signed by Hodgkins and his attorney in May.

The document said Hodgkins agreed to pay $2,000 restitution to the Treasury Department as part of the plea.
Several defense attorneys said prosecutors with the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington are seeking to require restitution of $2,000 in each felony case and $500 in each misdemeanor case……….

Judge to Capitol riot defendant: 'Patriotism is loyalty to country, loyalty to the Constitution'

    hard to disagree

    I like it. "You're not a patriot, you're a toady."

These potential sentences also seem light
    =======================
A New Jersey gym owner and a Washington state man on Friday became the first people charged in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol to plead guilty to assaulting a law enforcement officer during the deadly siege.

The pair of plea deals with federal prosecutors could be a benchmark for dozens of other cases in which Capitol rioters are charged with attacking police as part of an effort to halt the certification of President Joe Biden’s election victory. Both defendants face more than three years in prison if a judge adheres to estimated sentencing guidelines spelled out in the plea agreements.

The estimated sentencing guidelines for Scott Kevin Fairlamb range from about 3 1/2 to 4 1/4 years in prison. But the judge isn’t bound by that recommendation when he sentences Fairlamb, a 44-year-old former mixed martial arts fighter who owned Fairlamb Fit gym in Pompton Lakes, New Jersey. Fairlamb’s lawyer and prosecutors can seek a sentence above or below those guidelines……….

Well when you put it like that

First time hearing the 500M figure
    ===========
A federal judge on Monday questioned why U.S. prosecutors are asking Capitol riot defendants to pay only $1.5 million in restitution while American taxpayers are paying more than $500 million to cover the costs of the Jan. 6 attack by a pro-Trump mob.

Chief U.S. District Judge Beryl A. Howell of Washington challenged the toughness of the Justice Department’s stance in a plea hearing for a Colorado Springs man who admitted to one of four nonviolent misdemeanor counts of picketing in the U.S. Capitol……

The judge alluded to a $2.1 billion security bill passed overwhelmingly July 29 by Congress to cover the costs of the Jan. 6 attack, including reimbursements totaling $521 million for the National Guard and $70 million to the Capitol Police, plus $300 million for Capitol security improvements……

Assistant U.S. Attorney Clayton Henry O’Connor told Howell the government would explain how it computed the damage and restitution estimate before October.
The department and U.S. attorney’s office declined to comment beyond court statements.

Prosecutors gave few details in early June when they put a price tag for the first time on damage done to the Capitol in the riots, saying in court filings that as of mid-May the sum totaled “approximately $1,495,326.55.

    ”
The basis of the estimate was not clear but appeared to reflect the immediate costs of replacing broken windows, doors and other property.

A spokeswoman for the Architect of the Capitol said the agency gave damage assessments to the Justice Department, which calculated the per-case penalty, and separate assessments to House and Senate appropriators for wider security costs……..

Yeah, the $1.5 million was a laughable figure. I never understood who came up with that amount and how they decided that number.

That was just for the damages done to the Capitol. It didn't include the cost of responding to the insurrection by DC Police and National Guard. Nor does it include the cost of now securing the Capitol so that it doesn't happen again. All that is being put on us tax payers.

Those defendants should definitely be made the pay more. The DOJ and Garland are dropping the ball on that and being way to lenient. It really pisses me off because other groups of people would not receive the kid glove treatment that many of the defendants appear to be receiving. Their presence there, even if they didn't engage in destruction, made it possible for the others to do so. They all should bare more responsibility for the cost of responding to the insurrection and it should hurt them both financially and with jail time. $500 and $1,500 fines are not a deterrent for something like insurrection.

Yeah, it really is a slap on the wrist. In some other countries, the penalty for this sort of thing would be death. The ones whining that they're being treated unfairly have no clue how much worse it could be.

A fine of more than $2000 is ridiculously common in felony convictions/pleas. When they've got a $500,000,000 price tag that tax payers are footing the bill on, these scum bags who attacked the Capitol should be proportionally paying THAT bill, not the same fine that someone who gets caught selling over an ounce of weed does.

And they're complaining that they're being treated unfairly while either awaiting trial or being tried (sitting in county jails, not prisons)…which means they are doing nothing but sleeping all day and waking up to eat - or watching television/playing spades/dominoes. Can't wait to hear how unfair it is if/when they get prison sentences and are forced to do slave labor for the entirety of their sentence.

Yeah, it's infuriating seeing some off these idiots get off with time served.

so paying a small fine and sentenced to time served...
I feel like a lot of them would be thinking "it was worth it" by getting off that easily

No doubt. It'll be a badge of honor to them like a gang member murderer who serves 25 years and gets out to return to his gang (or what's left of them...) These scumbags really are little babies who think they're so tough and "Patriotic Americans" because they're the first group of people to commit domestic terrorism on a mass scale against the government in a couple hundred years. They should be doing hard time. Harder time than people are doing for drug offenses at the very least. The coke head who got popped 3 times over 20 years or life-long heroin addict who got busted just one single time with enough that they could call it "intent to distribute" are serving life sentences in most states.

    Perspective.

You say worse and I think the death penalty would definitely be better.

Interesting to see how this goes. This could have far greater consequences.

The lawyer for a D.C. police officer who fatally shot himself nine days after he was injured confronting rioters at the Capitol on Jan. 6 says a group of cybersleuths has identified one of his attackers.

A blow to Officer Jeffrey Smith’s head captured on video shows the 12-year veteran being knocked to the ground, apparently unconscious, according to a lawsuit Smith’s family filed Friday against the alleged attacker. The lawsuit includes a report from a doctor who evaluated the case for Smith’s estate saying a traumatic brain injury led the officer to take his own life.

I saw this today. It’s a heartbreaking story. And I hadn’t considered that a severe head trauma could do that.

The article I read said they are trying to identify a second attacker.

    Perjury charge added?

Also I’m pretty sure there weren’t a whole lot of non Trump supporting Democrats there that day

or was he one of those antifa plants I’ve heard so much about?

Even after Robert Reeder pleaded guilty to illegally picketing inside the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, he remained adamant that he was innocent of the worst allegations leveled against him.

Prosecutors argued that Reeder actively participated in chants with rioters and egged on the aggressive crowd, though they could not show that he participated in any violence.

They asked a federal judge to sentence him with a fine and prison time.
Reeder, a former FedEx driver from Maryland, told FBI agents that he was merely an “accidental tourist” who got swept up in the crowd.

The 55-year-old denied engaging in or inciting violence, according to a sentencing memorandum his attorney filed earlier this month. He asked the judge for probation.

But new video from Jan. 6 that surfaced just before his sentencing hearing on Wednesday upended both sides of the case……

A group of online sleuths known by the moniker “Sedition Hunters” said on Twitter that it sent the footage to the FBI about four hours before the court hearing. The group also shared the videos on social media.

The clips show a man wearing what appears to be the same bright blue jacket, gray hoodie, disposable face mask and red “Make America Great Again” cap that prosecutors said Reeder wore on Jan. 6.

The man appears to shove a police officer and before the two engage in a brief scuffle. The man can also be seen behind barricades set up to keep the crowd away from restricted parts of the Capitol building grounds…..

In a sentencing memorandum, Reeder claimed that he merely walked into restricted parts of the Capitol to document what was happening “without violence — without destroying anything — without threats or without any other aggressive conduct.”

He also denied an affinity with the rioters.
“Mr. Reeder is a registered Democrat, and was not a Trump supporter, although he did like the patriotic spirit that he believed that President Trump was trying to instill in Americans,” the court filing said…….

Yeah F him and every other person there that day. I hope they can charge him with perjury. I hope he's not able to retire from FEDEX. If you are willing to throw your life away and everything you've accomplished for the most prolific liar in American history, you deserve everything that you have coming to you.
