Well, of course. But when you're dealing with an obviously loaded question from someone whose style you've come to be familiar with, there's no need for all that. I mean, I can't fathom that there's anyone over the age of 18 who doesn't know about Black people back in the day - hell, some even still today - considering very light skinned, straight enough hair, etc. people who can or have passed for being white and considering it good fortune being common among Black people because they wouldn't get harassed or beaten (worst case, killed) just because of their skin color. It's now an actual "thing" with Asian people because of the rapid rise of hate crimes against people who look Asian because of the "China Flu" ravaging the planet.

Sorry, man. I just flat out don't believe you. You aren't a stupid person and seem to be at least somewhat informed on both history and current events. There is no way that you'd never heard of Black people hoping to pass for white or lighter skinned Black people being considered "better" or luckier than other darker skinned black people. Especially if you live in Mobile, AL.

If you really, I mean REALLY, couldn't figure that out just by what happens in day to day life right now and didn't know the history of light skinned Black people passing for white being considered blessed (or whatever) then I have been giving you too much credit on the whole logic, sense and judgment front.
I find it better not to always act on those assumptions. Right or wrong, it never goes anywhere good.

Indeed. An easy, low hanging fruit example is Obama. I think the answer is probably obvious, but if Obama wasn't half-white, would he have still gotten elected? I tend to think probably not, for the reasons you stated here.

Is Mobile, AL an epicenter for white supremacy that I was not told about?

It is fine if you don't believe me. I asked a question because I wanted to be sure of what we were discussing. I had never heard that term before and was unsure if we are talking about skin color or the whole 'uncle tom' type deal in regards to how people of a certain race act based on another certain race.
And to be honest, you guys change definitions of words a lot to it is hard to keep up. I have been asked to supply definitions of 'cancel culture' and 'racism' in the last few days but I guess clarification only goes one way.

Maybe he wouldn't have been in the position he was to get elected in the first place. I could see an argument for that. But I don't think many people thought of or even today think of Obama as half white. They thought / think of him as black. From a purely aesthetic viewpoint you're not looking at him and mistaking him for white. I think he still would've been elected. I just have never even considered the possibility any significant amount of people said, "he's half white so I'll vote for the good half" or any nonsense like that. Those people weren't voting for a democrat to begin with.

Oh, I don't know. I think you'd be surprised at the prejudices of some Democrats. Whether enough to flip the election, I don't know. But I do think his being half white gave him opportunities he maybe doesn't otherwise get. But it's hard to say specifically because I don't think we could say conclusively one way or another. I do tend to think there are people who are prejudiced enough to change their vote because of skin color rather than party. They exist in both parties, but it's hard to say to what degree.

I really don't care about skin color when it comes to who I vote for, but I know there are more than a few people who do.

This didn’t really have a thread to put it in, and I didn’t want to start a new one, so it goes here. Goldman Sachs (those liberal commies) have a new forecast.

    That is good news indeed.

I guess with most of the states being mostly open for the last 11 months helped out with our V shaped recovery from a self driven financial crisis.

Yes, Farb, Trump’s actions are certainly the focus of a quote that specifically mentions “the latest fiscal policy news”. Good Lord.......🤪

Who said anything about Trump's actions?

Um, you did. “V-shaped recovery” is direct from Trump’s mouth. 🤷‍♀️

Well, to be fair, more than a few economists were saying that as well. The phrase has been commonplace for a lot of years. After the housing mortgage bubble and financial collapse in 2007 and subsequent years, people thought we'd see a V-shaped recovery then, which of course never really materialized. Trump essentially borrowed that phrase.

This time around, we're definitely seeing signs of that V-shaped recovery, which really isn't all that surprising. The economy took a massive hit early last year, but it's already getting close to where it was pre-pandemic. I was thinking we'd be in this position after 24-36 months, not 6 months. So I can't complain too much.

The question I have is whether it's sustainable for a reasonable length of time.

Honestly have never heard the phrase before this, Dave.
