I was looking for a place to put this so we could discuss but didn't really find a place that worked so I created this thread so we can all place articles, experiences, videos and examples of racism in the USA.

This is one that happened this week. The lady even called and filed a complaint on the officer. This officer also chose to wear the body cam (apparently, LA doesn't require this yet). This exchange wasn't necessarily racist IMO until she started with the "mexican racist...you will never be white, like you want" garbage. That is when it turned racist IMO

All the murderer and other insults, I think are just a by product of CRT and ACAB rhetoric that is very common on the radical left and sadly is being brought to mainstream in this country.

Another point that I think is worth mentioning is she is a teacher and the sense of entitlement she feels is mind blowing.

But weren't you suggesting we should do like France and avoid the race ID? That was only accomplished through strict laws. POC are happier because of those laws. Most of those laws would NEVER be able to pass here.
So In your opinion, if we got rid of terms like African-American, etc, racism would just mostly go away? Do you think that is what is causing/extending racsim in the USA.
OK, great! Thank you for addressing the two concepts of no classification of humans according to ethnicity and the anti-racism laws.

Regarding the government or culture at large classifying people according to physical appearance, ethnicity, religion, etc: I believe that once citizens are classified in that manner there is a tendency to division. That classification into distinct groups can cause division is no surprise. In fact, it is natural to exaggerate differences once people are classified in that manner.

Whenever I travel back to where I was born I am enthralled with the fact that all citizens are labeled by nationality. Some rich, others poor; some educated, others non-educated; some of predominant Spanish or other European ancestry and many indigenous, black, mixed, Asian, and even a few Arabs and Jews. Everybody has the same twang or accent when they speak Spanish, prefer the same traditional foods, and listen to the same music. Is there racism? Yes!!!!!! That is present in every society in the world, however, I believe this system of unity is the better avenue to continue to diminish racism in the world.

I believe that once people are classified by looks, skin color, ethnicity, religion, etc there is a tendency to division. This lack of harmony and absence of a national identity can lead to tribalism and dissolution of the nation.

As for the laws: America also has a lot of laws, but over here free speech is sacred.

    United States[edit]

France was better for blacks for a long time, and many prominent blacks, especially in entertainment, moved there from the 20's through the 60's. This was especially true post WW2. My Dad and his siblings grew up there in the 50's and he was shellshocked as a kid when they came back to the states. He had never faced segregation or blatant in your face racism until they came home in the early 60's.

That has changed over time as America has matured. The end of segregation, opening up of financial opportunities, and various social justice pursuits have balanced the playing field. I'd say America is probably now equal to places like France and Canada that were ahead of us at one point mostly because they desegregated much sooner. However, even states in the US are at different points. California that desegregated in the 30's is way ahead of Mississippi for blacks, for instance.

So it's much more complex than just France and the US. It's better to compare France to the specific US States. I'd rather be a black person in France than Mississippi, but I'd rather be a black person in California than France.
OK, that makes a lot of sense. I have seen a lot of videos of AAs that prefer Paris over the USA. So I was not far from the mark.

As for lack of classification according to ethnicity I have seem videos where the French seem happier with that system and are generally shocked by the USA custom of racial classification. This is an opinion based on my observations. I am certain some Americans have horror stories about France.

What makes you think they avoid identity politics? Not having legal ethnic classifications != avoiding identity politics. Speaking of facts, Rassemblement National is a significant political party in France, and their primary platform has been one of anti-immigration and French nationalism.
Sure, and they have a Trump type woman (Marine Le Pen) that almost beat Macron. They are far from perfect. But we elected Trump and they elected Macron.

Who elected who has nothing to do with the fact that the French engage in identity politics too, and not in the fringes of French society either.

So, this "once people are classified", Do you think black people would have rather been classified as Americans after the civil war? This "classification" didn't just happen over night. It was put upon them to keep them separated. Also, just because a lot of people were against slavery, that doesn't mean they were not racist.

IN Puerto Rico everybody is Puerto Rican. That works great!

    Not exactly.

Look, everywhere you go, even in Latin America and France, from times untold, everyone has engaged, engages, and will engage in identity politics to some degree, even if there are no legal ethnic classifications to speak of. Now, most places don't make identity politics a buzzword or dog whistle like in the U.S. - although they have their own - but identity politics are everywhere.

Yes, but two (or three) wrongs do not make a right.

The strict cataloguing of people according to race is an invention of white supremacists. They did the same in Apartheid South Africa.

Romans did it. Chinese did it. Japanese did it. Egyptians did it. It predates America by about 4,000 years (Egypt). That's without me thinking very hard about it. If I did I could probably push that date back even further.

Once again, it's just part of the human condition. We're tribal by nature so we categorize things to define tribes. That's how we roll.

    White privilege is like gravity.

It is a force that is so weak you barely notice, but it is so constant and pervasive that has a significant impact on everything.
White privilege does not exist on the level that you guys like to use for an excuse of decades of voting for bad policies/politicians and terrible culture decisions.
Work and pass laws that put fathers back in the homes (and religion), and you we will have a different culture and a better society.

I agree! Avoiding the tribal nature is not easy. In Puerto Rico most of the population is made up of African, European and Indigenous DNA so everybody being Puerto Rican makes a lot of sense. The culture is Latin American in nature despite more than 100 years of colonization by the USA.

I don't know anything about PR, so I'll have to leave that to someone with knowledge of the subject. I will say it's generally easier to reduce ethnic tribal identity among smaller populations. However, typically in those scenarios, people find something else to form tribes over.

Ireland is a good example. Everyone is ethnically the same for the most part, so the conflict is Catholic vs. Protestant. We will always find something to divide over. Race is just easy because it's visual. You don't need to know anything about the person to categorize them.

I agree, but just suggesting removing a term isn't gonna make a white supremacists less supremacist.
Force it or make not ok for them to be like that, call it cancel culture or what ever you would like, but the more shameful they look in public eye, the better.
