I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Some one can correct me but watching the local news but the 2K check bill also had a provision in it for government funding for 1 year in it. IF that was the case that could be why McCarthy killed it. They likely want a straight 2k clean bill or no crumbs for any.

Hadn’t heard that so I looked up the amendment. It’s pretty short, and just says to substitute $2000 everywhere in the original Bill that says $600, and substitute $4000 everywhere it says $1200.

He should be removed by the council imo.
He is a she and this is not surprising. We work with the mayor and the city a lot. I knew the mayor was hospitalized with COVID, but I wasn’t sure it was publicly known until now. This councilwoman is simply an agitator and an embarrassment as you can see. Not masking is par for the course and the altercation was obviously premeditated. Making a scene was her goal.

They passed the COVID bill and the omnibus bill together. The omnibus bills is a yearly spending bill that both parties agreed on and the White House also made suggestions. Not sure what Trump was talking about when he mentioned porks. There is no pork in the COVID bill. McCarthy killed it because he and his republican buddies in both houses don’t want to give that much money to people. They rather spend their time overturned the election. The first COVID bill that passed 6 months ago by the Democrat controlled house has 1200 but the republicans controlled senate never took it up. There are so much misinformation on the news and social media. A lot of people are confused about the omnibus bill and the covid bill. mostly republicans because MAGA mentioned it.

Maybe there was some confusion. The part you quoted from me was about todays bill. I know what was passed was 2 bills. I even said I thought it was something like 61 bills rolled into two. The problem isn't if it's is 2 bills or not. The problem is in this economic problem we are facing in America we are sending billions to foreign governments when we have major issues in our own house. Or maybe I stopped reading all the idiots on social media because that is the issue people have. Or I'm an idiot and misinterpreted your post wrong.

No man, I didn’t want to come across that way. I apologized. Anyway, there are always foreign aids in those yearly bills. It is not like this is the first year that we send money to foreign governments. I guess it is the cost of doing business.

Right. I understand there is always that foreign aid (as I've said before I disagree with but that is likely another thread). But I think we ALL could agree this isn't a normal/regular year. As I said earlier in the thread all that aid could have been better used in America. I mean. People here are suffering. Badly. Yet we're sending money to Pakistan for a gender study and Jordan for a boarder wall and many insane things.

Though Monday will be interesting. I swore I read Pelosi will put a straight clean covid bill on the floor then. That will be interesting to see who says no.

Lastly things can be hard to interpret at times so all good brother.

BobE, the amendment that McCarthy already killed today was clean, I posted a link to it. Barely a page long. Simply swapping out the $600 for $2000 for individuals and the $1200 for $4000 for couples.

The foreign aid Trump was upset by was requested by him when the administration submitted a budget proposal to Congress just after the election (I think that was the timing, but he definitely proposed all that pork he is now objecting to). So it’s not a great look for him to suddenly just now figure out what is in the budget proposal he sent over. 🤦‍♀️

And lastly, Merry Christmas! Normally we have a family get together tonight, but we find ourselves at home. So hopefully I don’t come across as grumpy, it’s not intentional. 🎄 Even with all this mess, there’s a lot to be thankful for.

I think maybe the confusion on my part is if I read that correctly it was an amendment to the current bill (which I thought couldn't be done) and would explain why the local news says it had to do with spending bill. From what I got Pelosi would be doing a bill not tied to anything or an amendment just a straight money for Americans on Monday.

Lastly Merry Christmas to you and your family MT15 and to all here on MAP or Happy (insert Holiday here). I will doing what I do best on Christmas..........Working. Though I'm lucky as hell to still have a job and still getting to work from home. Me and the wife are currently waiting till midnight to exchange gifts.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Unemployment benefits for millions of Americans struggling to make ends meet lapsed overnight as President Donald Trump refused to sign an end-of-year COVID relief and spending bill that had been considered a done deal before his sudden objections.

The fate of the bipartisan package remained in limbo Sunday as Trump continued to demand larger COVID relief checks and complained about “pork” spending. Without the widespread funding provided by the massive measure, a government shutdown would occur when money runs out at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday.

“It’s a chess game and we are pawns,” said Lanetris Haines, a self-employed single mother of three in South Bend, Indiana, who stood to lose her $129 weekly jobless benefit unless Trump signed the package into law or succeeded in his improbable quest for changes.

You're right. This isn't a normal year. This is a year where the president put together a very professionally produced twitter video complaining about pork in the annual budget, and most of what he complained about are items that were in the budget proposal he submitted to congress.

butt crevasse. This bill should have been signed.

I don't wish harm on anyone, but for Trump...

Yeah this should have been done by months ago.

The games played early by the Senate and this game now will come back to bite them in the arse in georgia.

No, it won't. They have no real political consequences. Even Trump got millions of more votes after 4 years of defecating on the Constitution and our institutions.

The Republicans aren't a political party, they're a religion, and you don't turn your back on your diety(ies).
