I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Alright, read this and think about your statement:

In his press conference yesterday, Trump asserted that, when he had insisted the virus had been contained and would be almost harmless, he had merely been trying to give the country “hope.” Today, when CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked about those statements, Vice-President Mike Pence said, “I don’t believe the president has ever belittled the threat of the coronavirus.”[/QUOTE]

Where I come from, that's called a lie. Case closed.

    2004:
    "Bush Lied, People Died!"
    "9-11 Was an Inside Job!"
    "Chimpy!"

    2020:
"Trump Lied, Died!" (tm Nancy Pelosi)
    "COVID-19 Was an Inside Job!"
    "Orange Man!"
Trump's lies are verifiable. Bush probably lied about Iraq, but intelligence is not perfect, and it is possible that the CIA just made a mistake and gave him bad intel. I always thought that Bush was hasty and rushed us into a war, but that is separate from whether he lied. That is about his judgement. I was always against the invasion of Iraq, but since the basis of that war was intel on the threat of Iraq having and using WMD, it isn't as black and white that he lied. I believe his haste was because he wanted revenge for the attempted assassination of his dad, as many others have suggested, but that is just speculation. With Trump, no one honest can claim that he isn't a pathological liar. You can discount them by saying the other side lies too, but that is like saying a person that goes 10 mph over the speed limit is the same as a person that exceeds the limit by over 100mph, because Trump lies way more than 10 times more than anyone else. The damage from Trump's constant lies are much worse. Up until now, Trump's lies haven't resulted in needless death, but his early lies about this virus has and will lead to many more.

That's part of the problem for sure, isn't it?

    Ah..Whataboutism.

I've stated several times that I hold leaders in the Democratic party (or any party) just as accountable.

Therefore, no, my "rant" is not pointless. My point was and still is that when lies occur, especially egregious ones that a child could point out, we must all, regardless of political affiliation, condemn it. Clearly that's more difficult for some.

As for what I said..It's simply that you decided to focus on where you thought I was saying "Party A is doing this" but conveniently never addressed where I said "Both Party A and B do this".

Are you going to address it, or keep conveniently ignoring it?

I can play this game all day.

Yeah, well you can play whatever game it is you think you are playing by yourself.

I think you completely understand the point I made, which by the way was about as non controversial and bipartisan as one can expect.

If someone tells a lie and you (in the general sense) go along with it, then that makes you complicit to the lie and therefore you are participating in the same falsity. You become defined by your activity. What people are looking for is for republicans to simply stand up and call what they know and see to be a lie, a lie. If this is something that republicans can't or refuse to do, then they should not expect those of us who can plainly see a lie to not see them for what they are.

Pence made a statement that is a provable lie yet there are people here who defend what he said as factual. That's lying.

The "liar" theme has become so repetitious, so trite and mundane that multiple people can't seem to find anything else to talk about.
Worse, nobody else can respond to any discussion of any type without first uttering a gratuitous "Trump is a liar" statement, sort of like a pass phrase.

    Poster 1: "I'd like to talk about economic . . ."
Poster 2: "Stop right there. Trump is a liar. You didn't say Trump is a liar!"
Poster 3; "Yeah! You HAVE to say Trump is a liar first!"
Poster 4: "You're a Trump supporter so that make you a liar too, you know!"
    Poster 1: "Never mind."

Poor guy. It must be awful for you.

So, while we are talking about politicians lying, here is the latest from Biden. What is worse, Biden lying to people by suggesting that their stimulus checks are sitting on Trump's desk waiting for his signature? Or, Biden really believing that is true?

They have to change the process for the signature. I work in IT, simple changes aren’t necessarily simple to implement. Especially a change that is for vanity purposes.

So just for the record- Is socialism only ok if it helps you personally or only when it bails out capitalism as a whole?

Trump is so proud of his best socialism, he wants to sign all the checks so every American knows he is the Biggest supporter of socialism for citizens and corporations alike.

    On another note:

If you are out of work, or your business is closed, and claim you are a true conservative - you should reject this money and any and all help from the government. If you lose all you own, so be it- let the market decide.

Choosing socialism now only shows lack of mettle and intestinal fortitude. Would you give up your god too if the situation arises? Have you even pulled on your bootstraps for god sakes? Sad!

Isn't it telling that the question asked multiple times on this board wasn't addressed once by those followers of whom the question pertains?

    Death.

    Taxes.

    Cognitive dissonance.

All printed federal checks have to have a signature on them and you do that with a digital e-signature on the blank virtual check before they're ever printed. Treasury Secretary, or President, either way. Swapping out one e-signature for another is a 10-second process, like I said.
I e-Sign documents every day. I haven't physically signed a document in several years.
