I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

So 98% of US doctors are vaccinated. But you want to listen to the 2%? Realistically 2% of any group is bat shirt crazy.
Heck yeah I would listen to them. Who knows what kind of wild stuff they would say.

96% of them said to take the shot, however how many of them were virologists as opposed to ENTs I couldn’t tell you.
Do you think it would be different than doctors as a whole? I think it would be higher. Much higher approaching 100%. I wonder where you are getting your ideas about the vaccines.

Well, drink bleach, shove a light bulb up your arse, and take horse de-wormer for starters.

I’m a fairly open minded person, but there are some things that even I won’t do (walk barefoot on Bourbon Street, fight a cop, drink bleach, or vote red pill/ blue pill).

In keeping an open mind about things I am fine with asking questions and hearing people out (no matter how off the wall the questions and answers might be).

I think listening to all 10 doctors (not just excluding the 1 who didn’t side with the other 9), and I hope after the last two years we would all feel this way.

Wash your hands, cover your face when you cough and sneeze, stay home when your sick, and let’s get over the restrictions.

It’s wild when you think about it, the COVID recession has killed more jobs than the 80s oil bust and the 07/08 recessions combined.

This article is from 2020, however I am sitting through an Economic Development seminar and the speaker is bringing out updated numbers.

This is a wild time to be alive to say the least.

You didn’t answer my question, though. Virologists - higher vax rate than other docs?

You can be open-minded without doing the thing where you pretend every kook has a viable opinion, you know.

I have certainly read enough, talked to an actual virologist (my brother), listened to an infectious disease doctor (at work), read more infectious disease doctors on line, to know that the people who are anti-vaccine in this case are just not grounded in reality.

But whatever. Everyone has to make choices about how they spend their time I guess.

I posted this on EE but I'm not not surprised by the 98% of doctors

What surprised me was the 50 some percent of nurses were vaccinated (this was quite awhile ago, not sure what it is now)

They are on the front lines, they are the ones spending time with the patients and families and seeing up close and personal the devastating effects of Covid

    And a 50% vax rate????

    Made zero to me

I would assume that vaccination rates among virologists are high, but I can’t guarantee with any certainty what that number is. Do you have the numbers to speak with such certainty? Does your brother speak for all virologist?

Anyway, those kooks, those 1 out of 10, they have the basis for their beliefs set in something. I would like to hear what it is, and see if a common ground can be achieved. If not, then so be it. But an attempt should be made to understand them and see where the disconnect is.

After 2016 I’m still “once bitten, twice shy”, about poll results.

I find that Atlantic article to be very vapid. It's basically just complaining about having to wear mask and social distance.

All this angst is just about Covid deniers/Republicans being outcasted because the rest of us don't want to be around them.

Also, jobs aren't are problem right now.

Ben Collins does a really good job of monitoring fringe groups online. These trucker groups are basically astroturfed and anti-vax money is funding them. This is a short thread explaining:

Some of us can also read the primary peer-review research for ourselves as well. So, you've conferred with 10 doctors and one was an outlier? Who did you go with as far as following medical advice? I'm guessing you masked up to see all 10?

Masked up? I’m vaccinated, so I go without a mask whenever possible.
