I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

    Hear these truckers out,
    Why?
How many times do we have to hear the same anti-vax "MAH FREEDOM!" bullshirt we have been hearing for months, but with an "eh" at the end?

it’s not like there is a deep bench to pull from for these jobs. Fewer truckers means a logistical nightmare.

if the small number of truckers protesting just stopped driving, there wouldn't be any nightmares. But they are actively blocking shipping routes.

Apparently this small contingent of truckers make up the group most impacted by quarantines, those being long haul truck drivers. I’m not sure how many long haul drivers are moving inventory around North America, but them sitting this out, and causing a mess is a bit more than the local currier service not sending docs from one office building to the next.

But hey, let them keep striking, I’m not looking to buy a new car.

So only 10% of truck drivers are long haul drivers? The other 90% of truck drivers deliver stuff within the same city?

To various degrees, quarantines affect everyone. The people who unload the trucks, the people who shelf or assemble what was unloaded from the trucks, the people who sell what was unloaded from the trucks, even the people who buy/need the product... they all are affected by quarantines too... are they all blocking commercial traffic, waving confederate flags, saying how they'd die for their freedom? ... well, probably a percentage of them.

Keep them striking? Fire their arses.

... or maybe we should just let a small number of long haul drivers dictate how we handle pandemics. After all, who cares about some live when "MAH FREEDOM!" is at stake?

They are Canadians, so it would be “Mah Freedom, ay!!!”

Wait, the 10% are unvaccinated (90% are vaccinated), how many actual protestors are long or short haul, is yet to be determined. The story posted spoke about long haul drivers (who would have the most to lose should a 7 day quarantine go into place).

I’m not saying we should cave to their demands, but considering their government is lobbing yet another mandate on them, perhaps a meeting of the minds would be in order. After all, 90% of Canadian truck drivers are vaccinated, so it’s not like these folks aren’t open to the jab.

I suppose those who are employed by trucking companies could be fired, and those independent drivers could be denied loads to drive. However, given the logistical nightmare that is already in place, I don’t see what company is going to turn down drivers.

I kind of do want to see this happen in the US though. I love a good hypocrite showing their arse, and DC is full of them, so this would be a splendid time.

Also, I will trust a truck driver over how to handle a pandemic more than I will a set of politicians who are fighting to keep their right to insider trading.

it "eh", not "ay", they are Canadians, not the Fonz.

Which story is that? How do long haul drivers would be most affected?

Just on that small number of truckers? Or eveybody?

That'd be like bringing a knife to a gunfight. When was the last time a "meeting of the minds" went well when one side waves confederate flags as they cry "MAH FREEDOM!!" and wax poetic as to how they'd die right then and their for their freedom?

Could've fooled me, since they refuse to get vaccinated.

The logistical nightmare isn't just these yahoos not driving.

You want to see thousands of people's livehoods be put in jeopardy by a group of yahoo anti-vaxxers waving confederate flags?
How much pop corn did you consume on 1/6/2020?

    Do you play the violin?

This is what Twitter has to say about it. As far as it happening here, for what? There are no vaccine mandates against truckers in the US. But then, that doesn’t seem to be the point of it at all.

I don’t mess with the Jan. 6th crowd. Those guys can all pound sand.

I do appreciate truck drivers who over the past two years have worked to keep store shelves stocked, while folks were out there buying up 1,000,000 rolls of Charmin. They were working hard, and nobody cared if they were vaccinated when they were doing it.

I have no reason now to care who among them are vaccinated, like I had no reason then to care who among them was vaccinated. If they want to keep working, let um.

Sure, a trucker can be your doctor, I don't mind.

Me too, that's what social distancing is for. fork idiots.

I didn’t say that, but if you came to me and said 9 out of 10 doctors recommend you should not pick your nose, I would want to hear the logic behind that 10th doctor’s recommendation for picking your nose.

What did your 9 out of 10 docs tell you about COVID?

So 98% of US doctors are vaccinated. But you want to listen to the 2%? Realistically 2% of any group is bat shirt crazy.
