I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

MADRID — When the coronavirus pandemic was first declared, Spaniards were ordered to stay home for more than three months. For weeks, they were not allowed outside even for exercise. Children were banned from playgrounds, and the economy virtually stopped.

But officials credited the draconian measures with preventing a full collapse of the health system. Lives were saved, they argued.

Now, almost two years later, Spain is preparing to adopt a different COVID-19 playbook. With one of Europe’s highest vaccination rates and its most pandemic-battered economies, the government is laying the groundwork to treat the next infection surge not as an emergency but an illness that is here to stay. Similar steps are under consideration in neighboring Portugal and in Britain.

The idea is to move from crisis mode to control mode, approaching the virus in much the same way countries deal with flu or measles. That means accepting that infections will occur and providing extra care for at-risk people and patients with complications.

Yes, we aren't dealing with the same virus we were two years ago.

Adapting to changing circumstances isn't a "gotcha", it's a sign of strength.

Oh, see this whole time I thought I was a 'science denier' or an 'anti-vaxer' becasue I was told that. The science was settled and very clear. I need my state jab. I didn't know I was being talked down to from a position of weakness, but that does make sense.

Yea because we were dealing with a different virus.

It shouldn't be hard to understand.

Unfortunately, governments are having to deal with people like you who act like changing a policy is an admission of being wrong.

Again, your reading comprehension is the issue.

    You are a science-denier and anti-vaxxer. Also a racist, but that's a different thread.

Spain has one of the highest vaccination rates, and omicron isn't as severe as the other variants have been. We are hopefully beginning the process of transitioning from pandemic to endemic, so Spain is now shifting its strategy. It is responding to a changing situation with a new strategy. This in no way contradicts any of the previous mitigation strategies.

Also, they are able to make this transition because more of their population got the "state jab" than most other countries.

Speaking of weakness, who's too weak to handle a needle stick?

different virus or variant? Is there not a difference?

I must be doing something wrong because I have yet to have a call from any government asking me what I think. They tend to do what they want. Especially if they have everyone in such fear that seeing a human face causes anxiety and the fresh air and sunshine is deadly.
But yeah, that is all the 'new' normal now though.

They aren’t asking for the opinion of people like you. I never said they were asking for your opinion.

She's basically Paul Bettany's chracter in Da Vinci code.

Also, stop using the phrase 'jab.' You aren't British!
It’s 2022, if a science teacher can identify as a doctor, Farb can identify as British…I mean hell, people are calling him racist for Pete’s sake.

No, but he is a victim of propaganda that used jab instead of shot.

I don’t see why farb can’t be both racist and a victim of propaganda at the same time.

On that 'science teacher not a doctor' thing, it's funny that 'Dr.' John Campbell, this British guy whose videos a lot of right-wing people flock to for COVID takes is actually a nurse (the guy gets almost a million views in a day per video). The 'Dr.' comes from a PhD in 'nursing education.'

I can't use the word 'vaccine' because I am old school and I hold on to the old definitions of words even if that old definition was relevant only 2 months ago.

I have been to England so I identify as British, so cheerio.

Do you understand that language evolves and word meaning change?

Also when did the definition of vaccine change?

what the fork are you even talking about?

So I have been told. Still doesn't add up to me, but I am sure it does for you.

Apparently the CDC changed theirs this summer and the 'dictionaries' changed there a few months ago.

Can you tell me what changed about the definition of vaccine?
