I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) introduced a bill that ties $2,000-per-person Covid-19 relief checks to a repeal of Section 230, the provision of a 1996 law that protects social media platforms from liability for the way that they moderate third party content.

It is sad because it was easily preventable. And in the tweet above one of 14 or so had a mask on. Dec 2 just a week after the health experts warned of a surge from Thanksgiving.

It is worth to note in Pic 3 that would be Newsmax on the TV.

So the majority in there probably felt no need to take it seriously.

Just so damn frustrating to see this.

Why should Joe speak for this now??? His support for this right now would only turn trump against it and that would be the final nail in the coffin for this stimulus package. When Biden becomes POTUS, I guarantee you that his support for this stimulus package will not waiver.

You speak about it, to put even more pressure on McConnell. It also helps the senate races in GA. I couldn't believe he didn't mention it today. Trump doesn't seem to care that Nancy, or Chuck are publicly showing support. Why do you think Joe showing support would make him change his mind?

He looks healthy in that picture and I am not sure if he had any underlying condition but it has been shown the the severity of COVID is related to viral load. Wearing masks would help prevent the disease and lessen the viral load if one gets it.

This is just more cherry picked "conservatism" when it comes down to spending. Congressional republicans love spending on foreign aid to Israel and spending ungodly amounts on the military but when it comes down to the citizenry who are in dire need, all of a sudden its, "what about the debt?"

Not only has the republican party become the party against masks and anti-science during the covid crisis, they also became the anti-family party.

Seems like, while it's important to get the elderly and front line workers first dibs, we may just want to set it up where people who actually want it now get it, then everyone else can make their more 'informed' decision.

I believe that you can be pro-family and against the $2000 checks. They are not issues tied at the hip. While everyone would love to get the windfall that the checks would provide, they are not necessarily the best idea for relief. Not everyone who would get a check has been directly affected economically, so some would argue that the best plan would target larger checks to those who have lost jobs, had their incomes reduced, etc. Just as an example, my wife and I will probably file our taxes on around $6000 less than in 2019, but we still have the same jobs. For me, that was entirely thanks to the PPP program, since I would 100% lost my job had the program not provided funds to my employer. So targeting most of the stimulus funds to the PPP program, extended (and increased) unemployment benefits, eviction prevention and similar programs designed to assist those that have a true need are likely to have the most impact and ease the suffering of those most affected.

It is not necessarily heartless to think that an alternative to printing more money is the wiser choice. I'd love to have $4000 dropped into my bank account, but the truth is that I don't need that money as much as others. I would have uses for it, as anyone would, but there are more effective ways to stimulate the economy and ease suffering than to crank up the presses and spit out $8000 checks to a family of four who never lost a dime of income during the pandemic.

It is pretty diabolical really. He can pivot the Democrats refusal to want to vote on this as they don't want people getting the extra $$ etc. We all know most people won't know what else ol' turtle shoehorned in there

This was expected but the Dems need to call this flop and vote for it. On the other hand, Trump was ranting again this morning because he didn’t like the combined bill Moscow Mitch introduced. Not sure what his end game is.
