I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Fighting COVID and rescuing sex trafficking victims all at once. Oh, and it looks like when you get arrested for a superspreader event that they mask you up when they handcuff you. Bonus points for everyone.

For those who want to claim that nobody notices when the cops do something good.

Right on, LA Sheriffs. You done right! :9:

First day we went over 3,000 deaths in one day in the US. Horrific.

Anecdotal update: in my hospital 67 out of 175 patients have Covid. Theres not much room left for folks who have other ailments needing hospitalization. Eleven were in ICU, nine of them on vents.

We are running two types of PCR testing now: meaning two different analyzer platforms. This is because we are limited in the number of tests we can run each day because reagents are still rationed. We run them until we reach our limit, and then after that they have to be sent out. This happens every day on our second shift. Eight months in and we can’t get enough reagents yet. 😡

When I worked the other day (technically I am retired, but am working one day per week), in one hour we did 8 tests, and 7 of them were positive. I quit keeping track in my head after that hour, because there were too many.

My friend (former co-worker) ended up in the hospital for about five days, but has been discharged. Her husband, last I heard, was getting weaned from his vent, but won’t be coming home. If they can get him stable off the vent, they will transfer him to a long term care facility. They need the bed.

The Gates foundation announced today that they donated a quarter of a billion to the vaccine efforts. Q gonna explode. 😂. Watch out for those 5G chips.

I can understand the risk of exposure during the course of the workday as we administer screenings and care to patients. What I don't get, however, are those medical providers who get exposed in the course of hanging out with friends over the holiday weekend. Now my organization has to potentially close down an entire clinic site because you missed your friends. And that exposure could spread moreso if someone has traveled from one clinic site to the next. fork YOU!!! YOU'RE FIRED!!! is what I really want to say right now for the potential damage this person has caused to staff and our patients. I haven't been able to hug and kiss my granddaughter since January because I understand how dangerous this thing can be to someone infected. You're a clinician. What do you not get? Or do you just not forking care?

(In a shock to no one)

    • Mellissa Carone, who sat next to Rudy Giuliani during a hearing for his election fraud lawsuit in Michigan last week, has told The Washington Post that she doesn't intend to quarantine in light of Giuliani's COVID-19 diagnosis.
    • Carone, a freelancer who worked for Dominion Voting Services as a low-level technician during the election, told the paper that she would "take it seriously if it came from Trump."
    • She added that she would only get tested for COVID-19 if a Trump-friendly news network like One America News Network or Newsmax recommended it, adding: "I don't trust the tests."
That's just too stupid to comment. She's really trying to get an extra 15 minutes of fame, huh?

    And here's the email...

The editorial request its self, isn't awful. Just not sure if that kind of political strong arming (I must review it!) is business as usual.

Asking how they arrived at that conclusion is a fair question.

Honestly, it seems to me that the Trump allied attorneys filing this are trying to get her an additional 15 minutes of fame more than she's even doing it herself. You'd think they'd want to steer far clear of her after her testimony in the MI legislature but apparently they think adding the testimony of someone who's had SNL skits made mocking her previous testimony is an added feature, not a bug.

Remember when Trump promised that everyone would get the antibody cocktail that he and apparently Rudy and Christy all got? Still not generally available for us regular folks. 😡

I recently bought face shields, and my intention is to use the face shield along with face masks in some places, but more importantly use the face mask when I'm eating near others. I know we're only a few months away from overcoming this pandemic, but I think restaurants would benefit from mandating face shields for indoor eating. They can give them to their clients.
