I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

I don't have much to add except I came across this about Katie Porter. The video gets a little choppy towards the end, but I love how she frames things

I can’t get the above video to load, probably a glitch on my end. I did see it yesterday, Mnuchin was extremely haughty and dismissive toward her, he is obviously not familiar, at one point he tried to score a “gotcha” by asking her if she was even a lawyer. Just embarrassing himself and coming off as a huge butt crevasse. I saw a tweet afterwards that said he was very unpopular in whichever company he used to work, and that little exchange showed why.

Yeah, too bad she wasn't listening to him and just was trying to finish her question.

I listened to a lot of the hearing last night. Just so interesting hearing Powell talk and Mnuchin talk. Powell is comes of smart, nice, respectable. Mnuchin comes off as arrogant, and too important to be there.

No surprise there- Mnuchin spent almost 20 years working his way up at Goldman. Also had production company- Dune Entertainment

Jesus H. Christmas, with people like this calling for "personal responsibility" when it comes to staving off mass infection, hospitalization and ultimately death over the coming months while waiting on a vaccine, I have zero faith in things not getting 1,000 times worse before it gets any better.

he is the CNBC guy on the NYSE floor that reports on different early am breaking news ( job /gdp reports etc ) He is loud, naturally, since he is usually reporting from the floor.

He obviously has a really strong opinion on restrictions LOL.

This was like 6 months ago, but I think someone who designed the covid tracking software for FL got fired b.c they asked her to essentially fudge the numbers.

Jones says a superior asked her to open up the data and alter the numbers so that the state's coronavirus positivity rating would change from 18% to 10% — and the state would appear to meet its target to reopen.

She says she refused to do that manipulation and others she was asked to, and she was fired on May 18.

I didn't hear either mention it in that video, but the big difference between a box store and a restaurant, is that you have to take your masks off in a restaurant to eat, while you never have to take it off in a box store, so the restaurants are inherently more dangerous. Another factor is that in restaurants you tend to stay in the same place for an hour or so, whereas you move around in stores. If someone is sick in a store, there is a good chance that you will only be exposed to that person briefly, while if someone is sick at your table, you will be exposed for nearly an hour to that person.

I remember this clearly. DeSantis should be behind bars....
