I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

So my friend sent me some interesting stories today
A televangelist preacher who once blamed the coronavirus pandemic on premarital sex died this week of COVID-19, according to a report.

The Rev. Irvin Baxter — who appeared on the Christian TV show “End of the Age” — succumbed to the illness Tuesday after being hospitalized, according to Endtime Ministries, the Pentecostal Christian organization he founded. He was 75.

    (and)
His plan: To publicly shame people who report violations of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions to the government by publishing their names and faces on billboards. Or at least try.

Another instance of Karma "trumping" religious freakery....

I hope Biden uses the power of the federal government to return production of pharmaceutical basics to the US.

I do think we need consistent messaging. These were both spontaneous celebrations, either criticize both or do not criticize either one.

Here's the other thing. Unlike Trump rallies, even though there's no distancing, all reports say 95% or so of the participants all had face coverings on. I would imagine, just as reports showed from the George Floyd protests, spread is likely minimal.

    This isn't Sturgis.

It's not Sturgis, hopefully doesn't become that. But, I think it still has the potential of becoming a super spreader event. The reason why is because the effectiveness of the mask usage is reduced substantially when people are squished together like in both pictures above. If there was some spacing, something closer to 6 feet than no feet, then I think it would be a lot safer, but I would not want to be in either of those crowds during an exploding pandemic. People just don't care about the risks and we're paying the price for it unfortunately.

look who tried to take credit for something they played no role in

But the New York-based company was quick with a clarification.

Dr Kathrin Jansen, Pfizer’s head of vaccine development, told the New York Times: “We were never part of the Warp Speed ... We have never taken any money from the U.S. government, or from anyone.”

This is Trump and Republicanism in a nut shell. Regular, free testing for the higher ups while staff are exposed to the virus and left to fend for themselves.

DC has the testing resources; there is no excuse for the WH to not have tests for staff. There are free, daily, public tests throughout DC and my office has free tests for employees Mon 9-12.

I'm pretty sure the staffers (as most government employees do) have options to get free testing that they're possibly not aware of. I'm not sure who the source is, but I doubt this is true.

IMO, anyone working within the White House compound shouldn't have to fend for themselves. They should be regularly tested at the White House, much like those close to Trump supposedly are (or not).

I don't believe they're fending for themselves though. They should have access to free testing if they request it and/or know how and where. I do think the Administration is not being serious enough about mask usage and smart distancing policies within the WH and at events.

Fwiw, I don't buy that everyone, including those close to Trump are being tested frequently enough. Otherwise, I don't think you'd see the numbers of infected being as high as they are.

Everyone at the WH complex should be tested regularly. If that's not being done, then that's completely irresponsible.
