I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

I wonder why that is? 🤔

How long before trump tweets the WHO is nothing but a proxy for communist china blah blah blah

I'm sure Trump would love a vaccine right before the election, proper protocols be damned
    =========================================

President Donald Trump is exploring ways to release an experimental coronavirus vaccine before the 2020 presidential election in November, even if the vaccine doesn’t meet normal U.S. safety standards established by the FDA, according to a new report from the Financial Times. And while the news is not exactly a surprise, it’s still somewhat shocking to learn, given the fact that so much is riding on a smooth rollout of any covid-19 vaccine to slow down the pandemic.

The Financial Times report cites three people familiar with the Trump regime’s plans, which would require help from the FDA, an agency that has started using bombastic pro-Trump rhetoric on Twitter. But a spokesperson at the health agency denies the vaccine, which is being developed overseas, might be rushed out ahead of the election.

There are at least 135 vaccines currently being developed around the world, but Trump is reportedly most interested in a vaccine being tested by UK drug company AstraZeneca and Oxford University, according to the Financial Times. AstraZeneca’s vaccine is being tested in 10,000 people at the moment, but FDA’s normal protocol requires that a vaccine be tested in at least 30,000 people before it’s released widely to the U.S. public............

    Was I incorrect?

I suspected it was your language around how every medical professional somehow possessed some share of blame (“every medical professional”)

Lurk is an MD who I think didn’t feel the blame you said he should.

it’s how I read it, anyway. Not generally a fan of absolutes nor superlatives nor generalizations

Sadly, you are correct. Most Americans have never seen real leadership in our elected officials.

Sadly, yall swore Trump was different. Was going to be a man of the people. Drain the swamp yall said. Make America great again yall said. Will be in White House instead of golfing he said.

    Here we are.

    Thanks Trump.

Lincoln Project didn't pull any punches putting out a statement after Trump had a photo op in a food bank line.

I don't ever recall saying that.
but the amount of illogical hate from certain politicians toward Trump, makes me think he is doing something right.

    Define "illogical" hate?

Especially as regards a President who's already been impeached. Who has presided over the worst federal response to a disaster in history, who amplifies looney-tunes conspiracies, puts children in cages as a matter of policy, lines his own pockets every time he goes golfing, grovels at the feet of dictators and encourages his fans to do physical violence to those who disagree?

I'm not seeing any level of hate toward this malevolent buffoon that qualifies as illogical. It's all eminently logical to me. If anything, the fact that nobody's taken a swing at him shows a remarkable level of restraint.

The Democrats impeached Trump. The support for it was so low, they dropped it. Illogical?

The response to a global pandemic: Maybe he is responsible for the hurricanes too?

Kids in cages: started under the Obama administration

Lines his pockets playing golf: I can give you this one, but to me, not much different than every other politicians lining their pockets- At least he does't take salary too and it is possible it save the country money. I don't know enough about his golfing trips.

Grovels at the feet of dictators: Need to see evidence of the groveling. I don't consider being complimentary to an enemy as groveling.

Violence for those that disagree is either a the minimum a both party problem or mainly a Democrat problem. Obama just gave a speech at the Democratic revival about the 'protesters' being the fulfillment of of America. Remember Maxine Waters patriotic speech about seeing a Republican in public, at a restaurant, a gasoline station?

So yeah, I see A LOT of illogical hatred of Trump. One can dislike someone and not have to project evils that don't exist in order to dislike someone. I loath Obama, but I don't think he was Hitler or some other incarnation of evil. He was just a terrible person that had awful ideas of government. Nothing more, nothing less.

Illogical hate?? Is that what you guys now use to describe those that point out his litany of shortcomings, his bigotry, lack of leadership and morality?

Folks are now taking responsibility for being conned. Those are the ones stepping out of the line and speaking up. There is no illogical hate.

It's awareness brother. And with every speech, with every golf trip, with every declaration, more and more people are becoming aware of who Trump truly is.

    I've known for decades.

Just going to comment on the golf outings, but what ever he's forgoing in salary he's more than making up for every time he steps foot on one of his properties...

So it’s Obama’s fault even though Trump had been president for a full 3 years at that point? That’s pretty funny. So if a football coach is three years into his tenure and has a losing season, it’s not his fault, for sure. Because three years is certainly not enough time to rectify any theoretical shortages. 😁

Honestly, SFL, you say you don’t support Trump for president, why do you go out of your way to just make every excuse for him?
I never said it was Obama’s fault. I stated a fact that Obama never replenished the national stockpile.

Pointing out when people say things here that aren't true isn't always defending Trump.

Why do you say things about Trump that you know aren't true like when you said Trump said hydroxychloroquine was a miracle cure?

Well let's see did he have time to replenish it? Well considering he has played golf well over 250 times I am sure he did.

Well funding might be a issue? Well could have diverted some funds from that wall fiasco. Hell it costs tons to house all the children he separated from their parents.

I have grown tired of Obama is the problem when this administration with complete control of house and Senate accomplished exactly diddly poo and want to pass the buck to everyone else.

SFL, if you weren’t making excuses for Trump, why did you bring up Obama at all? It followed directly criticism of Trump for not procuring PPE during the 8 weeks he had to get ready. 🤷‍♀️

I am not saying something I know to be untrue. That would make me a liar wouldn’t it?

Trump touted hydroxychloroquine as a both a cure for Covid and as a preventative. Here’s a direct quote from an article at the time. I bolded the pertinent part.

“In March, the US president used a press conference to promote the use of hydroxychloroquine, a common anti-malaria drug, to treat Covid-19, saying: “I sure as hell think we ought to give it a try.”

He followed this with a tweet that claimed the use of the drug in combination with azithromycin, an antibiotic, could be “one of the biggest game-changers in the history of medicine”. On Sunday Trump again touted hydroxychloroquine, saying “there are some very strong, powerful signs” of its potential as a Covid-19 therapy.”

After a hue and cry from the scientists following that tweet, he did back off a little bit, but calling it “one of the biggest game-changers in the history of medicine” speaks for itself. He really, really wanted it to be a miracle cure. I stand by my characterization of his comment and his transparent desire to promote the drug as a cure without facts.

Sadly, there are those who actually believe this.

Bringing up Obama was totally relevant to show how the last President handled an infectious virus for context. The fact that y'all can't acknowledge that Obama couldn't comtrol the virus while you guys claimed Trump should have controlled the virus with the magical pandemic playbook exposes hypocrisy.

It's funny how those quotes from Trump didn't contain the word cure.
