I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

I'm okay with the shutdown of passenger traffic from other countries, but why stop merchandise? The virus dies after a few hours on surfaces, so planes can arrive, allow them to sit for 1 day, and then the cargo is safe. I agree with most of the other actions Trump announced, except the payroll tax, which won't have any benefits, and will result in shortages for social security, medicare and Medicaid.

Evidently there isn’t a ban on merchandise. There is a document online that spells out the actual conditions and exceptions. Trump didn’t get them right.

Geez, wasn’t he just reading that speech from a teleprompter? He got so much just wrong.

This virus does not die after a few hours. Stays active for days.

While I am not saying that we can just ignore it, the reaction to someone testing positive for this virus is akin to testing positive for HIV in the 1980's. Geez.
Except this virus can spread much more easily than HIV. I was thinking the NBA should've suspended the season before a player got infected, since the issue was having crowds of thousands together.

The NBA just postponed the entire season after Utah Jazz star player Rudy Gobert tested positive for Coronavirus before tonight's game. No, I'm not making that up. I live a stone's throw away from the Vivint arena, too. Damnnn

And Tom Hanks too! How can this be? There are only like, what, a thousand or so cases of confirmed infection in the U.S.? It can't be due to lack of testing, because I clearly heard Trump say the other day that anyone who wants to get tested can get tested. He also said the number of cases was "soon" going to be close to zero. This must be FAKE NEWS.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but a virus that supposedly had a connection to a lab in china with the ability to cripple entire economies?

Must be an election year in America

When I went to hit 'like' my thumb got all gooey with sarcasm.

I am probably missing the joke here, but isn't Tom Hanks in Australia?

How would more testing in the U.S. have helped stop him from getting the virus? I am all for comedy, so help me understand the joke.
Look, Tom Hanks getting it in Australia had nothing to do with U.S. testing. You got me. It was just a good lead in for my main point, since I don't have any other famous people to point at. Yet.

You’re right. I thought I had read that it only survived a few hours, but I did some research, and while it isn’t known, other coronaviruses can survive up to 9 days on some surface and temperatures. That’s a long time, but we could still wait that out.

Okay. Was just wondering since it is not just U.S. testing. It is a worldwide shortage.
