I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

    Class war

Yep that is the republican way make businesses happy and not responsible.

Just think of this. If business truly thought they could be held accountable everyone would have to be masked employees and customers.

I have no problems with masks. Everyone is gonna have to use them a long time like years. This is not going away.

This is truly pitiful. We're talking young lives here and this is what they do? November can't get here soon enough.

It’s not only the disregard for children who may have health issues that put them at risk, but what should teachers and instructors think about it? Get in there and expose yourself to an incurable virus?

Yes, we need to have schools, but we seem to be unwilling to do any work to figure out the safest way to do it. There’s no thought given to maybe having smaller groups, alternating days, pushing courses on line when feasible, trying to mitigate the riskier parts.

It’s just open fully, damn the consequences. We can see how that is working out now in several states who ignored the CDC guidelines about opening up restaurants and bars.

I think Betsy DeVos and Donald Trump should have to attend classes for a couple of weeks.

We're getting an increasing number of cases where people with mild symptoms are displaying signs of damage to the brain following an infection with Covid-19. The below link is a study of more serious damages but what people are reporting here is issues with memory, concentration, balance and fine motor skills.

The danish health care system will now offer those patients the same rehabilitation as is currently offered to people who has had meningitis but the long time effect of these damages are still unknown as is whether the the damage can be mitigated by rehabilitation or if it is permanent

FYI Gov Edwards just signed it yesterday here in LA.

You cannot sue employer/business. full stop.

Of course he did because he is exactly what the republican party use to be. Ten years ago he would have been considered a moderate republican.

The looking out for business no matter if they follow guidelines or not is the american way.

The worker only has rights when it has bargaining power and unions have pretty much been squashed.

Yep. After starting out on the right accord, he is truly showing weakness as the cases have made a rebound.

    I'm quite disappointed.

You say that as though your government sees to it there's plenty of PPE to go around.

Not a big surplus but enough to ensure safety. Besides we're down to 18 hospitalized - 5 of which is in intensive care

But there are still a lot of companies who have dedicated part of their production to PPE - to ensure that we have a sufficient supplie if/when the second wave hits

Strangely enough we're probably one of the few countries where the authorities do NOT recommend facemasks. But we have strict rules about social distancing and hygiene. There are bottles of handsanitizer everywhere. People are told not to walk or sit directly towards/across from each other and stay in their lanes even when walking.

It's just insane what some people will say these days. I guess he's just following the mantra of the fair leader.

I'm very surprised that the New York Times published this article, but kudos for them even if its way overdue.

Public health experts decried the anti-lockdown protests last spring as dangerous gatherings in a pandemic. Health experts seem less comfortable doing so now that the marches are against racism.

I wonder how long until Mr. Powell is looking for new job. If he issues an apology, he is done for.

So that’s a pretty good piece, and I don’t think it says anything unusual or controversial.

So, Farb, maybe you could point out the source for your snark?

I don't have a problem with anything in the article that I was able to read, not a subscriber. I am willing to bet someone somewhere with a blue check mark will have a problem. I guess only time will tell. Tingling with anticipation.

I'm very surprised that his article highlighted the hypocrisy of many health officials. If some wonder why many people ignore the current warnings on COVID, those health official's obvious hypocrisy is one reason. There are also many people who will ignore the warnings and restrictions no matter what.

So, the article is so much more nuanced than you guys are describing. Farb already said he didnt read it, so SFL did you read it?

Yes I read the article. Do you have any comment on the hypocrisy that the article noted by public health officials?
