I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Why talk about Denmark - It has nothing to do with the topic we are talking about. You did not answer my simple question - Would you still consider those people patriots if theír actions caused another hotspot and lifes lost?

I think your question highlights that the differences in cultures. We understand that liberty is worth defending - and yes, opposing governmental rules that are not rationally related to a compelling governmental interest should be opposed. The greater the infringement, the higher the scrutiny.

There is no question that there have been governors and mayors who have overreached. For example, the MI governor who prohibited family members from visiting the homes of other family members and even prohibited citizens from traveling from one home they own to another.

Another example is that we are not going to abide by propaganda from the Chinese Communists. In contrast, apparently you are willing to accept their demand that we avoid referring to this virus by its place of origin.

In WWII Denmark waived the Nazis in like a third base coach telling a runner to head to home plate. That type of submissiveness is just not part of the American tradition and I think our culture is worth preserving.

Just to put the record straigth. There were NO declaration of war from Germany and being a small country where it takes THREE hours to get from A-Z, well I would not say we were submissive. Unfortunately we also have the only waterway into the baltics going through our territory with open passage for all nations. Which allowed the Germans to place troop carriers in international waters, 2 miles of-shore of Copenhagen. I would really like to see how you would defend against that! And my grandfather spend more than a year in a German KZ camp because he was a resistance fighter so don't talk to me about being submissive!! But enogh about this "whataboutism".

YOU are NOT at war against an enemy who shoot. You do not fight an epidemic with guns but with knowlegde, preparations and most of all by containement!! That is common knowlegde and has been used throughout history for thouthans of years...

What I call the virus is the official name - not a reflection of submission and definitely not giving into any demands. But serious debate demands propper language and respect for the facts. Not just deflections. So once again - I ask -"Would YOU still consider those people patriots if theír actions caused another hotspot and lifes lost?

Can you explain the point of posting these clips together and what they mean in relation to one another?

That the same woman who is now concern trolling is the same one who, out of ideological possession, was telling people to come on down and stand shoulder to shoulder for a Chinese parade earlier.

My 88 year old grandfather passed away last night at an assisted living facility in Fairhope, AL. He wasn't tested for coronavirus but had a sudden onset of respiratory issues in the past few days. I don't think we'll ever know and it could just be a coincidence that it happened now, but I gotta think there's a decent chance that he had it.

Brandon, I’m so sorry to hear about this. I am thinking of your family and your loss today. May you find peace.

Can you explain what you mean by 'concern trolling'?

Nonsense. The only known US case at the time was in a Washington state. What makes her early comment about going out ideological? That also doesn’t disqualify her from correcting the president’s Stupid Lysol injection comment. If having said something inappropriate disqualifies someone from speaking further, Trump would’ve been disqualified long before he became president.

If saying something stupid disqualified a person from speaking further, about half the people posting in this thread would have to be banned from replying any more based on their early posts parroting all the worst hot takes from Trump world.

Oh please, there were plenty of warnings that an invasion was imminent, Denmark was just too timid to prepare out of fear of provoking Nazi Germany.

In any event, I disagree with the notion that going to the beach is going to "cause" an outbreak. That responsibility lies with the CCP.

I am not going to blame anyone who refuses to hide under their bed. There really are consequences for "living" life that way. People need to get outside and get some sunshine. Although you can't eliminate the risks associated with living, you can be smart and reduce those risks.

It's not possible for society at large to avoid exposure. The Chinese virus is going to sweep across the globe regardless. Acting like we can just hunker down until it passes is selling false hope and is going to make matters worse in the long run.
If our hospitals are overwhelmed due to some people just living their lives, then I think we should take that into account if we have to ration treatments.

Which was almost a week after our President suspended travel from China. This is the health commissioner confidently saying there was no reason for people in New York City, which happens to receive a lot of international travel, not to congregate at an event with people who were likely to have recently travelled from China, or who had been in contact with people who had.

The reason I said her comments were the result of ideology was because she was blinded by the mistaken view that recognizing that travelers from China presented a risk was racist. She is not the only one, Europeans made that same mistake.

Don't confuse willful stupidity with bigotry. I've seen nothing that shows the poster to be a bigot.
I’m not confusing anything. Flip knows exactly what he is doing despite multiple people asking him to knock it off. Whether it is out of stupidity or not doesnt make it any less bigoted. Calling it the Chinese virus cultivates fear within people and instead of seeing it as a virus they begin to associate it with China and East Asian people (which is evident with the rise of hate crimes against Asian Americans), helping spread and signal a negative outlook on Chinese individuals.

Whether someone makes a bigoted comment out of ignorance, stupidity, or mallace, it is still bigoted. Flip has went out of his way nearly two dozen times to call it the Chinese virus, the Wuhan virus, the Wuhan flu, the Wuhan, or any number of plays on trying to negatively frame the virus with China. It’s the modern equivalent of calling AIDS the gay plague and then talking up all the issues of the gay community, everyone knows what that person is doing, this is no different.

So we can either make excuses for the people perpetuating it or be a part of calling it out/pushing back against it, open choice.

So I largely agree that the prohibition of some Chinese travelers helped and was justified. However I don’t think Trump was motivated by public health. I think it was related to the trade differences. I also think it is considered racist to call the virus the Wuhan virus, which Trump loves to do. Nobody called the Swine flu the American flu, even though it started in America.

All you need to look at to demonstrate his motivations was what he did afterwards, which was nothing.

And not only nothing, but less than nothing. Spreading false hope, lies, and promises for why the virus would be gone by April 1st and how playing it up was all a ploy by Democrats to hurt him politically.
