I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

Ladies and gentlemen, the price of oil has officially gone into the negative.

You need to come to grips with the fact that the far right people have lost their collective minds. This was not leftists lying about their actions I noted above. This was from videos from a local Facebook page that I am a member of. It is not a political group. The people that posted it were not "leftists." They were neighbors who are centrists, some of whom even lean a little to the right.

Nice try at deflection. You completely failed to address the out of control behavior of the Tea Party. Instead, you claim it is false information spread by "leftists." Trump would be proud. George Washington, not so much.
Except when the protesters are not 'far right', like in California?

The vast majority of the protesters are right wingers, particularly those not wearing masks, and many of them are going to get sick, and 1 to 3% will probably die. Since Trump’s margin of victory was small, this may kill his margin. I think he killed his margin with his behavior, but his own voters may thin their own ranks.

We don’t learn from history. The Spanish Flu was horrible. People also wanted to re-open. Philadelphia had similar parades, while St Louis remained shut. Philadelphia had a large spike of illnesses after their parades. Look for something similar in about 2 weeks.

California has one of (I believe 2nd?) largest Republican voting blocks in the nation. Just because they're outweighed by more Democrat voters, doesn't mean a very big percentage of them aren't Republican. Just because that district voted Clinton, doesn't mean anything as far as who is actually protesting.

People have died defending freedom before. I am glad to see them sending a signal that the American public will not sit by and watch wanna be tyrants bully them around.

Don't fret, we are adding to our base. We're getting a lot of help, not only from these governors but of course the squad is going to deliver.

Did you see AOC's tweet celebrating the fact the bottom fell out of the oil market? All because she believes it will help usher in her Marxist Green New Deal. She has since deleted it, but she was a little late.

It’s a cautionary tale that I hope people consider. Darwin is at work in these parades. Let’s be smarter. Philadelphians were equally dumb in 1918 by holding parades in the middle of the Spanish Flu.
    You don't actually understand Darwin.

I suspect you also don't understand anything about this virus.

It is going to kill who it is going to kill, eventually.

The only lives saved by slowing it down were those which can be saved by the presence of modern medical technology that may have otherwise not been present.

We are now past the point, in this country, of the possibility of creating such a shortage in any large scale.

Huddling in the basement isn't going to change that reality.

You display a fevered hopefulness that Americans protesting unnecessary restrictions on their freedom in order to give a false sense of comfort will result in deaths of Trump voters.

I cannot express, for many reasons, how disgusting that is.

The whole point of what we're doing is to prevent our health care system from being overwhelmed all at once.

"It's going to kill who it is eventually going to kill, eventually." I've got parents in their 80's and I happen to want them to live. The chances of that happening if they happen to get the virus is much better if they can actually get effective care. As a result, I do NOT want the health care system to be overwhelmed. And guess what? I don't like this shirt. I don't want to huddle in my basement. Who does? We're doing it for our family, our neighbors, and our co-workers - and their families.

So fork you and your mentality.

What’s disgusting are these ridiculous parades which will result in a surge of infections and deaths. Freedom stops when your actions affect others. We have to keep the surges down to reduce the spread and the deaths. It is not a false hope to control the spread, but the US is still failing to meet the challenge. These parades will only make it harder. There is a difference between huddling in a basement and being responsible. People have gone to war to protect freedom, but not the right to spread infections.

P.S. Not everyone will get infected. Darwin assures more people die that do stupid things. Sure some weak people will become victims of the stupid by the spread of the infection, but I believe more of the stupid will be culled.

People can be saved from getting the virus and from dying by practicing social distancing as recommended by this administration. For every 10 senior citizens who don’t contract the virus that’s 4 deaths prevented. These people (smallish in number, but enough to cause an outbreak) are mostly demonstrating in areas where all is certainly not lost in the effort to contain the virus. Their efforts are needlessly risky. They could certainly protest in a more responsible manner.

Nobody is huddling in their basement in fear. They are voluntarily staying away from other people to prevent the healthcare system from being overloaded. It’s a noble and unselfish act for most people because most people wouldn’t die if they contract the virus. Sure, there’s a chance for anyone, even healthy young residents, interns and nurses have died, right now we don’t know exactly why some people get so much sicker than others.

People who are parading around without masks, with semi-automatic weapons (what does that have to do with the virus or public health policy?) are basically giving the finger to the health care workers who would be put at risk by the patient surge they are inviting. Are they going to shoot the virus? They look exceedingly silly, imo.

What is ridiculous is governors who make the restrictions harder than is necessary.

So Trump is suspending immigration because of the Coronavirus yet encouraging Americans to rebel against local quarantine law and protest together.

I want to know if that makes any sense to a soul here.

Wait do you want people coming into the country now from other countries?
