I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

The WHO lied to the world by saying there was no evidence of human to human contact.

The WHO argued against restrictions on travel to and from China.

There needs to be significant changes at the WHO and withholding funding until those changes are made is appropriate and necessary.

Trump didn't ban travel from China..

Trump is trying to undermine the CDC and W.H.O. to cover his shame.

    Specifically? No.
Generally, I was alluding to strange behaviors during presidential election years. There have been many, many examples.
The Election of 1828 probably takes the cake.
    • John Quincy Adams accused Andrew Jackson of murder while serving as a military officer for executing deserters.
    • Andrew Jackson accused John Quincy Adams of having been a pimp while serving as a diplomat in Russia.
    • Jackson was accused of adultery and vilified for running off with another man’s wife, and his wife was accused of bigamy because her divorce 40 years earlier had not been finalized.
    • Jackson's wife, Rachel, suffered a heart attack and died before the inauguration,
    • Jackson won the election of 1828, and his administration got off to a bitter beginning when Adams refused to attend his inauguration.
    • Rowdy inauguration celebrations led to fist fights and damages in the White House.
No need to throw in race baiting comments as a component of this discussion. Geez.

Yea man, things were wild 150+ years ago.

Is that when America was great?

Everytime I feel like trying to be more charitable you go and post something like this.

I don't need your charity at all. Trump is NOT like you..

    KEY POINTS
    • 430,000 arrived U.S. on direct flights from China from Dec. 31, 2019, to Jan. 31, 2020
    • Over 40,000 Chinese still entered the U.S. after Trump's travel ban on Jan. 31
    • No travelers from China were screened for potential exposure to SARS-CoV-2 initially

Travel restrictions from China, granted not the DailyKOS juggernaut but it is a left leaning article, discussing the travel restrictions (that didn't happen?) and how racist and how it really didn't do anything.

"Under the travel restrictions, non-U.S. citizens, other than the immediate family of U.S. citizens and permanent residents, were prohibited from entering the U.S. if they had traveled to China within the previous two weeks. "

Trump's claim of him banning direct flights from China on Jan. 31 helped mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the U.S. isn't all true.

The travel restrictions would've mattered if Trump had actually started making preparations and taken it seriously. He frittered away any benefits that may have been gained.

P.S. Left leaning articles are generally more factual than right leaning articles, so I'll read them all day and can easily see their agenda, while I generally have to figure out what right leaning articles are hiding. The left generally has an agenda to highlight perceived injustices, but not an agenda to lie and hide to protect Trumpism. I don't like reading far left nor far right sources, but the Washington Post and New York Times are very solid left leaning pubs.

    Won't be fooled again.

Service Providers are not allowed to comment on the behavior or veracity of Civil Servants , , , not if they want to remain employed as Service Providers. :winkthumb:

Laughable response...maybe that is what you were going for....

Because otherwise, that statement is 100% a lie. There is a delay caused. A guy with 40 years of government service can obviously tell when a government spokesman is blowing smoke up your skivvies.

check with him back in 2008....maybe he can't?

I used to be a Republican for 35 years so on the whole I have a high regard for moderate Republicans.. I resigned the party right before we invaded Iraq. (I'm an oil brat so I knew the war would be a huge blunder.)

The hardliners and Evangelicals seem to me to be utterly out of their minds.. and make no mistake they will defend Trump no matter how crude, immoral or stupid he is... Yes, stupid.

For whatever reason Trump has fooled a lot of good people on both sides of the aisle. Perhaps they are just afraid of him. He has a long, long history as a liar and a cheat and for getting even with anyone who "slights" him or challenges him.. and those slights may simply be percieved..

Trump even turned on his long time mentor and fix it man Roy Cohn when Cohn's homosexuality came to light. Cohn had AIDS and Trump dumped him instantly.

    I didn't like Hillary either..

Trump's problems are far more serious than the majority of American men could even imagine. Whether you are a liberal or conservative.. Democrat or Republican he is NOT like you. He doesn't share your values or morality or patriotism or loyalties.

He claims to have a high IQ and that his intuition is superior to yours and mine .. He claims he's a genius and knows more than Generals, Doctors and Intelligence Services.

Ewww! A DailyKOS link? Seriously? Now I have to go take a shower.

I don't think that article is saying what you think it is saying, or else you find;t read the article Farb posted that you seem to disagree.

What do you mean no human to human contact? Once it jumped to humans, how else would it spread? Maybe mosquitoes? You must be referring to what may have been known in October. I can’t find evidence that the WHO lied about that. Got a link?

The way Trump handled the travel ban was ineffective, and the WHO was warning that that type of action could backfire. It was vindictive because China wasn’t agreeing to our trade demands. The WHO was right. It did buy a little time, but there were more effective options such as allowing the travel but testing the travelers with the WHO tests which were ready yet that we rejected.

Regardless about whether the WHO was right or not, it makes no sense to cut or halt the WHO funding in the middle of a pandemic. Trump’s claim that they hid evidence is probably is probably another lie. They have managed the pandemic much better than the Trump administration. If anything, the WHO should be hired to manage our pandemic.
