I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

WASHINGTON — President Trump publicly signaled his frustration on Sunday with Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the federal government’s top infectious disease expert, after the doctor said more lives could have been saved from the coronavirus if the country had been shut down earlier.

Mr. Trump reposted a Twitter message that said “Time to #FireFauci” as he rejected criticism of his slow initial response to the pandemic that has now killed more than 22,000 people in the United States.

The president privately has been irritated at times with Dr. Fauci, but the Twitter post was the most explicit he has been in letting that show publicly.
The message Mr. Trump retweeted came from a former Republican congressional candidate.

“Fauci is now saying that had Trump listened to the medical experts earlier he could’ve saved more lives,” said the tweet by DeAnna Lorraine, who got less than 2 percent of the vote in an open primary against Speaker Nancy Pelosi last month.

“Fauci was telling people on February 29th that there was nothing to worry about and it posed no threat to the US at large. Time to #Fire Fauci.”
In reposting the message, Mr. Trump added: “Sorry Fake News, it’s all on tape. I banned China long before people spoke up.”..........

Still having problems getting supplies to the states in need.

If the move of pucker up and kiss his fat arse doesn't work does it mean we don't have those supplies?

I don't know if he could survive giving Fauci his walking papers.

That just might get him taken out of office right now. I can't see how anyone could defend that move when you consider just how that man was so important to us as a nation since 84.

There is no bottom for trump's base of supporters. You are vastly underestimating the people who tow the line for trump. Trump could fire Dr. Fauci and the major majority of trump's supporters would cheer the decision.

I am not talking the dipshits that vote for him because they like the drama. The vast majority have no earthly idea what is good for them to begin with.

I am talking about the other republican elected officials that need the big money donors.

Corporate America knows dead people don't buy stuff. Dead people don't show up for work. Dead people will never pay that massive loan or credit card bills. Dead people will not pay hospital bills.

You get nothing in return for having dead or people that got so sick to where they will never work again under your thumb.

The other Republican elected officials have toed the line as well, even when they say otherwise publicly.

Corporate America gets their tax credits and bailouts, and they gud.

    Change in policy just announced:
    - Certain federal documents which formerly required wet signature will now be accepted with electronic signature.
    - Certain federal documents which had to be FAXed to and from federal facilities only may now be FAXed electronically from authorized personnel's government laptop computer from home.

Glad we got that taken care of, in, * checks calendar* month 4 of the outbreak. Next up, actual social distancing for inner administration officials publicly and privately.

At this rate we will definitely have adequate testing and PPE no later than January 2021. Just have to keep bidding up and confiscating fromstates and working toward figuring out that pesky logistics...

It's only a matter of time before Trump fires Fauci. His supporters will cheer the move and other than "concern" and lip service, there will be no repercussions. It's tragically comical how you can see these things coming a mile away with Trump. It's always the same broken story.

But I think it could be, based on what I see, it could be a game changer.”
    — President Trump, at a White House news briefing, March 19, 2020

“Hydroxychloroquine — I don’t know, it’s looking like it’s having some good results. That would be a phenomenal thing.”
    — Trump, at a White House news briefing, April 3

“What do you have to lose? I’ll say it again: What do you have to lose? Take it. I really think they should take it.”
    — Trump, at a White House news briefing, April 4

“It’s this powerful drug on malaria. And there are signs that it works on this. Some very strong signs.”
    — Trump, at a White House news briefing, April 5

The world is looking for answers in the search for a treatment for covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, which has claimed more than 100,000 lives across the globe. President Trump has repeatedly touted the anti-malarial medications hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine as that much-needed solution.

Even before Trump started talking about the drugs, studies abroad sparked interest in them as a potential cure. News about the drugs spread quickly online, percolated to the media and the White House.

Scientists have since pointed to major flaws in those original studies and say there is a lack of reliable data on the drugs. Experts warn about the dangerous consequences of over-promoting a drug with unknown efficacy: Shortages of hydroxychloroquine have already occurred, depriving lupus and rheumatoid arthritis patients of access to it.

Doctors say some patients could die of side effects. Other potential treatments for covid-19 could get overlooked with so much concentration on one option.

The Fact Checker video team has reconstructed how the claim spread online and illustrates the troubling consequences of such misleading hope in the drugs...............

    The science
As attention on the drugs became even more prolific — online, in the media and from the president — scientists say there is only “anecdotal evidence” on the drugs. To a layperson, that may not sound bad, but it’s actually an insult in the scientific community.

Anecdotal evidence refers to people’s personal stories about taking the drugs and has no basis in scientific data. It’s akin to a Yelp review. Anthony S. Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and a member of Trump’s coronavirus task force, has consistently said there is not enough evidence to support the drugs as a viable treatment for covid-19.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted tests on the drugs in treating SARS in 2005. Results showed the drugs had anti-viral effects on cell cultures. However, it did not work in studies on mice. According to David Boulware, professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota, that “is a little bit of a red flag.” Moreover, it was “not a clinical trial and did not look at the effect of chloroquine on humans,” according to a CDC spokesman........................

And now we have a denial that the doctor is getting fired.

"This media chatter is ridiculous – President Trump is not firing Dr. Fauci. The President’s tweet clearly exposed media attempts to maliciously push a falsehood about his China decision in an attempt to rewrite history," White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said in a statement.

"It was Democrats and the media who ignored Coronavirus choosing to focus on impeachment instead, and when they finally did comment on the virus it was to attack President Trump for taking the bold decisive action to save American lives by cutting off travel from China and from Europe. Dr. Fauci has been and remains a trusted advisor to President Trump."

WASHINGTON — In Massachusetts, state leaders said they had confirmed a vast order of personal protective equipment for their health workers; then the Trump administration took control of the shipments.

In Kentucky, the head of a hospital system told members of Congress that his broker had pulled out of an agreement to deliver four shipments of desperately needed medical gear after the supplies were commandeered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Gov. Jared Polis of Colorado thought his state had secured 500 ventilators before they were “swept up by FEMA.”

For weeks, the Trump administration pushed states to procure their own ventilators and protective gear, like masks, gloves and face shields.

But a new effort by the administration to create a hybrid system of distribution — divided between the federal government, local officials and private health care companies — has led to new confusion, bordering on disarray, and charges of confiscation........
