I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

I'm no genius....but I'd venture to guess that areas with the highest populations tend to lean towards the democrat side, and areas with the highest populations (and highest population densities) are going to be affected the most.
I got it. I expect political criticism to continue on the basis that only less densely populated areas should be free and clear of the virus, so people can continue to claim that Republicans are idiots while Democratic governors get a pass.

Poor leadership where? Surely not just the President, right?

Why are the states hrdest hit by the virus (so far) states led by Democrats? Is it poor leadership from Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Netherlands, UK, etc. that has caused hospitalizations, death, economic struggles, etc?

It is really sort of gross watching people try to use this virus to score political points.

    You can't be serious.

    Because it's stupid!!!

Maybe they have the most cases due to population density in the highly infected areas.
Trump is blamed for 10,000 deaths but [pick your favorite Democratic governor in a state exceeding the case rate per capita] gets a pass because of the unique situation of his/her state?
There are unique situations to countries as well, would you not agree? There are a great deal of similarities between Europe and the U.S. - the freedom of movement across large geographical areas, the fact that both are probably the most visited "countries" on earth for foreign travelers (especially if you include London), rather diverse populations, etc. etc. Both have been hit hard.

In the context of partisan political criticism and blame, why wouldn't I be serious?
I've only closely followed this in regards to my local area (Pensacola), state, and nationally. Outside of those I can't really tell you what Republicans or Democrats elsewhere have been doing or how they're handling this. Obviously I hear about New York and Cuomo but don't know enough to give an opinion.

What are some of the failings of Democrats (or other Republicans) we should be discussing?

Also, I'm curious if you believe my previous criticisms of Trump on this topic were 'gross'?

In the way I am thinking about the terms "criticism" is different than "blame" and/or some sort of partisan diatribe. Its the latter that seem to be directed at Trump/Republicans by people on this board: as in "trump's lack of leadership = 9,500 dead" or "Republican Governor will be responsible for x number of death because he won't do x, y, or z." Or posting some video showing that only Republicans are to blame for a lack of seriousness towards the virus in January, February, and into March.

I have no desire to blame Cuomo or any other Governor for the deaths and sickness that are happening. I am not even willing to criticize them at this time. It just seems laughable that while on the one hand pinning everything at the feet of Trump (who certainly deserves criticism) while ignoring Democrats (where every state above the average per capita is a state with a democrat in charge).

    So you're being facetious?

I'm just wondering, because we know for starters that many Democratic states like the ones you mentioned have heavily populated metro areas, and most if not all large cities in America are more democratic for many reasons -- diversity one of them.

That has nothing to do with policy, if that was the attempt made.

It seems even more laughable to imply that Democratic leadership is the reason for above average instances of illness or death without looking at the obvious factor that has been pointed out more than once in this thread.

I have already addressed that point a few times. Do factors like population density only work for you to absolve Democrats of blame?

So seriously you are on a political discussion board talking about the worst pandemic in over a hundred years and admit to not following this?

Plenty of fails from December January and February from the tubby orange guy and his cronies to even bring up at this point.

The one that chaps my hide is the stealing of PPE products by the feds. When a hospital, county or state works their arse off getting product the feds should not take it.

But you really have tons to catch up on. I suggest reading a few timeline articles

    Yeah it is pretty laughable.

No, there are other factors that play in to it. The fed failing to deliver requested supplies, then seizing supplies purchased by states plays a role, I am sure.

I agree with Donny from New York

I said that I've been following this nationally, which to be more clear I meant that I've been following it at the federal level in addition to my local and state levels. I have not been closely following other states and their elected officials, therefore I do not really know how those politicians have done.
