I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

    Hi DD -

Was your stance “lighten up It’s only a joke” when that jackass Bears fan had the “finishing what Katrina started” sign in the playoffs in ‘06? I have my money on no.

Preface- I am on my phone so ant typos, grammar Or capitalization issues you can ignore.

Great talking with you as always.

I'm hoping that in 6 months we'll see the usual DD posts, because it will at least indicate things are "normal."

I don't think anyone would be smart in saying that it doesn't work period, nor have I heard of such people. I think the consensus has been we don't know enough yet to swing way to one side or not.

I believe Dr. Fauci was quoted as saying that more testing should be done before we can get to a point we say unequivocally that they've been proven to work for most patients. That's why it's important that anyone, especially people with high positions of influence like the POTUS, not be too quick to insinuate they've found a possible cure.

For example, there has been a study that links it to being possibly lethal when combined with diabetic drugs:

Sweden has stopped their tests on using hydroxycloriquine against Covid-19 due to serious side effects affecting mostly the heart.

There's no comparison. Katrina didn't hit New York. It was localized to the Gulf Coast, not like nationwide pandemic at all.
The reports I'm reading say the coronavirus is hitting Louisiana harder than New Jersey.
Great talking with you too, CoolBrees.

If this place is going to be used for nothing but posting dueling political talking points Twitter feeds written by Yankees, I won't be here.

This is the cost of poor leadership.

    Currently 9620 dead.

Poor leadership where? Surely not just the President, right?

Why are the states hrdest hit by the virus (so far) states led by Democrats? Is it poor leadership from Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Netherlands, UK, etc. that has caused hospitalizations, death, economic struggles, etc?

It is really sort of gross watching people try to use this virus to score political points.

Are you basing that on the article?

The article says one hospital has stopped but the drug is still being used elsewhere in Sweden.

No it says that several has followed the example of the one quoted and more are expected to do so after evaluating the findings.

Well I am more than sure the virus will also hit your fly over republican strongholds.

It just takes a while to work the way there. You know only a handful of the bumpkins travel. The thing is that all rural areas have truck drivers coming thru fueling up so it will spread if the diners and stuff remain open.

I am more than sure when this is all said and done the republican state leadership will fail in exceptionally even amounts.

That is who I am scared for really.

My state all the red areas are treating this like a joke not distancing except New Orleans.

I'm no genius....but I'd venture to guess that areas with the highest populations tend to lean towards the democrat side, and areas with the highest populations (and highest population densities) are going to be affected the most.
