Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

Parents’ rights is just a bullschlitz tap dance. It is power hunger, period. If parents raised their children in a manner that mirrors their values then they should have no worries. The problem lies with the reality that children develop the ability to question, think and experience things outside of their parent’s viewpoints. So-called parents’ rights drivel is the attempt to codify into law a particular religio-political view wherein ALL children must conform to those views. In other words the power seekers are scared to death.
All of that is gibberish but the statement that the power seekers are scared to death. Remember when the teachers union and school boards asked for Biden's DOJ to investigate parental rights groups as terrorists? They are indeed scared to death of not being able to brainwash and groom the kids.

    I’m glad to see this:

What records? I thought this wasn't happening and was just a conspiracy theory that they were doing these things to minors?

    So...

    1. Encourage batshit crazy people to boycott Target, cause scenes and disruptions, and harass Target employees.
    2. Watch Target's stock prices fall.
    3. Sue Target for falling stock prices.

    Yeah, this tracks.
Makes my heart happy. I also get a little tingle when I see Budlight stacked up at the markets.
I sometimes wander into stores while eating my Chic-fil-A listening to Aldean and Oliver Anthony and just watch the people pass by the budlight. Beautiful sights.

How do you feel about the use of ivermectin or better knows as the 'horse paste' begin prescribed by doctors to fight covid? If I remember correctly (I do), once Trump and Rogan said something about the TV rallied against and you on this very board, parroted those same talking points all because of politics. This is only one example of MANY
Thanks for you concern, and you are correct, I don't think I could ever agree with you, on pretty much anything when it comes to politics, values or culture. But hey, we do enjoy the back and forth though! Cheers!
My sister had a doctor for many years that would prescribe her anything she asked for. She would go in and ask for specefic antibiotics and she said that he would tell her he didn't think that would help xxx but would give it to her anyway. We also have doctors prescribe opiods for many people who do not need them. so because a handful of doctors prescribe Ivermectin for Covid doesn't mean its effective.

Don't worry, dude. I'm pretty sure not many people around here put much faith into what you say.
Ouch. Man, you really get personal for a political board but I understand. I get a little peeved when people attack my religion too, so I do understand you being upset.

Could they prescribe it and can they do so now?
    Who is "they"?

The CDC employee acknowledged that physicians have the authority to prescribe it for off label uses, including covid. This wasn't a change of policy or an acknowledgement of it being effective. I'm sure your sources of information told you it was though.

There have been quite a few peer reviewed studies at this point that show that ivermectin isn't any more effective at treating covid than ibuprofen.

The doctors that wanted too, often could not because of the federal government guidelines. Now they can.

As of last week, your statement is correct. During covid and last year, not so much.

Again, are we talking secular or religious? They are not the same.
i need to know what a new "civil union is".
religious marriges are usless in the gov't eyes. just because you are married through your church, that does not make it legal without a license,.
are you saying minors shouldn't get married legally, but if its a religious marriage and not legal its ok?

It did answer your question. If I listened to the 'science' I would have gotten the vax and multiple boosters.

Yes, and you wouldn't have been wrong to do so.

Who do I listen too? It depends, if it is about my cholesterol I would listen to my doctor. If my doctors advise was to begin a regiment of experimental drug injections, I would do my own research and specifically try and find all the negatives since I know my doctor is incentivized by the drug companies to push a certain drug for this and another drug for that.

There's nothing wrong with questioning and getting more information from your doctor or other sources on the medication or treatments your doctor prescribes. It's also okay to reject the medication if you don't feel safe with it and request another medication. But you should also give weight to your doctors recommendation. I've done this myself with a medication my child's developmental pediatrician prescribed for our child and we didn't feel comfortable with it. If you don't trust your doctor then find a new one. That's all part of critical thinking and taking ownership of your own health care.

And, when I began that search and started notice that all other views from other doctors were being censored, taken down or dismissed as quackery, then my critical thinking skills would go off.
For example, what is your stance on ivermectin use as a drug to help with Covid?

What's illogical is to discount the opinion of the vast majority of doctors and scientist to listen to and base your medical decisions on a few crack pot doctors. That's not critical thinking (especially when it comes to a vaccine for a new virus), that's just foolish. I'm still waiting for all of the negative effects of the vaccine and boosters to hit me. It's been 2 years and I'm still good.

Ivermectin is useless for treating Covid, but you go ahead and listen to Ron Johnson for your medical advice. 😂

Correct. The former carries with it certain obligations and rights and is legally recognized and binding. The latter is not and means nothing outside of the church in which it was performed.

Even if the marriage is religious, you still need to get a marriage license and sign legal civil papers with witnesses and a presider. That presider also has to be licensed by the state to perform marriages. So for it to be recognized legally by the government and to obtain all the benefits of marriage, you still have to comply with legal secular requirements.

Otherwise, you can have a little religious ceremony, but it doesn't mean anything outside of your church.

Gotcha, so a private business can't decide who they serve?

Can you show me the sources you use for your claim that the black only graduation ceremonies are private and not sanctioned by the universities?
You’re the one making the claim that these are official graduation proceedings. You need to show proof of that, but you cannot. These are private parties not businesses. Jeesh. Do you misunderstand on purpose?

You don’t think trans people have health records? Or is it you don’t think they have the same rights to privacy that anyone else would have? These were not minors, necessarily, nor were they even patients of the transgender part of the facility. Reading the actual article would be helpful. It might puncture your narrative, though.
