Several prominent Democratic figures are set to speak at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago this month, two sources familiar with the plans told NBC News.

President Joe Biden, former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have been confirmed as speakers at the convention. Obama and the Clintons delivered speeches during the 2020 DNC, which was largely held virtually to prevent the spread of Covid-19 amid the pandemic.

A source familiar said that former President Jimmy Carter’s grandson Jason Carter is also confirmed to be speaking as a representative for his grandfather…….

    Well that was nostalgic.

I saw Shiela E (opening act) and Prince at Superdome 40 years ago (Purple Rain tour)

Coach had a really good speech. Warm, genuine, and he’s obviously a hugger - big hugs from his former students after. Also - playing some Neil Young, which I have a soft spot for.

Harris did great to pick him. Comes across as a normal, totally sane person. A great guy who would always have jumper cables and always stop to help if you were stranded.

Seeing Prince in concert was a bucket list item I'm so happy I was able to check off.

Watching his son standing in tears in celebration of his dad was such a wonderful sight to see.

My wife hadn’t seen much about him and isn’t that big into politics. She just doesn’t want Trump to be elected. She thought Walz was great and was pretty pumped afterwards. She is also a former HS English Teacher, now librarian so she loved the stuff about banning hunger not books.

Just give it a little time for the right wing propaganda machine to work up attacks against his son - SFL will be posting those tweets soon enough.

    Quick thoughts:

Another effective night in the DNC convention.

Jeffries, I don't know if it was time allotted, but needs to work on his cadence, yet very good speech.

Oprah was Oprah, even throwing back at the GOP their own rhetoric (have an adult conversation).

Walz I thought wa s very much meat'n'potatos 'Murica, with a progressive twist: from small town in the heartland, teacher, national guard, football coach, gun owner and hunter... yet pro reproductive rights/IVF, social programs, inclusion, even touching upon gun laws without saying gun laws.

I said it before, I think women will decide this next election, and everyone hammered on reproductive rights and IVF.

Personally, I think Jeffries quoting the Pledge and Walz declaring himself a 2nd Amendment supporter was a great move. I think that resonates with the centrist to true conservative voter, and takes away the power of GOP narratives, especially the "they're coming for your guns" narrative. The "I'm a better shot than they are and have the trophies to prove it" line was delicious.

I may not agree with everything the DNC and Harris stand for, but I agree with democracy. Beat Trump this election, and their messiah will be virtually dead, and they don't really have anyone who can follow on Trump's act; there is no one in the GOP who has cultivated the cult of personality Trump has cultivated for the past 4 decades.

Watching CNN and they are interviewing JD Vance and he said with a straight face the Democrat candidates make themselves out as a victim and whine.
Vance is showing just how broken he is. To sit there and gaslight like that isn’t normal. A normal person cannot do that.

Trump was able to tap into some pent up frustration/angst/anger in the GOP. ( that was born out of several factors over the years - be it bigotry, racism, jealousy, envy etc )

He capitalized on it and used it to propel him to the top of the ticket. He didnt cultivate, he simply used what was there, underneath the surface, and allowed it to come to the top.

The problem for him and those like him....we arent wired to stay angry/frustrated for any length of time. Humans arent looking to live a life of angst or aggrieved. It takes to much out of each and every person who does. Sure, there are some who are perfectly fine living in that realm, but its a very slim minority that do. So they have to REMIND others EVERY SINGLE DAY of WHY and HOW and WHO.

But eventually, joy and happiness ( seeking out ) win the day. So those reminders get less traction, less play, and folks simply start to gravitate away from the negative.

The ones peddling this negativity see this happening, so they RAMP up the rhetoric in hopes that it will draw those BACK IN. But it has an opposite effect, because time isnt on their side. Time heals all wounds. So the louder they get, the more repeating the message they do, the more folks they turn off. Until no one is listening any longer.

We are arriving at a point where folks are tuning out from the negativity. They HAVE to for their sake. Our brains, for a vast majority of us, cannot stay in that "negative place" for long. Its the antitheses of who we are as humans. We ultimately just want to live a life of happiness and peace.

The incessant blustering and bloviating by certain members of the GOP has gotten old. Psychologically, the Dems have tapped into that innate desire to just live in harmony with one another because life is too short to live in anger all the time.

Its !@#!@#@# brilliant and while i would have liked to have reached this point sooner rather than later, we are here now. I hope it continues because there is no greater way to diffuse anger, frustration or angst than happiness/joy/peace. And once you remove THAT from this GOP equation, Trump is left without clothes. He has ZERO empathy, love or affection for anyone outside himself. ( and deep down i think he has turned off that self-awareness part out of survival, mentally )

So what do y'all think the polling jump will be for Harris/Walz coming out of the convention?

There are few schools of thought here. One is that we're so polarized that there won't be a significant polling jump coming out of the convention, even with how good it's been (similar to what happened to Trump/Vance after the Republican convention) . Another is that Harris/Walz have already gotten their polling jump with all the good vibe starting out and that there won't be a jump coming out of the conventions since they're already wrestled back parts of the Democratic base who had walked away form the party. The first two I guess kind of go together. The third is that both Harris and especially Walz are unfamiliar to American voters and that there could be a significant polling jump (given how well they convention has gone so far) that then becomes very difficult for Trump to win back.

Because I'm feeling hopeful, I'm going with the third option and say a 4% polling jump nationally and maybe 2%-3% in battle ground states.

Nate Silver says anything under 2% isn’t a bump as it will erode. I am hoping for a 3-4% and regaining the momentum. Recent swing state polls show things have cooled off for Harris. Like a football game, you want to keep it close going into the 4th quarter and the Dems need it to be close going into October.
