Harris VP watch (5 Viewers)

Maybe with Kamala being a major change, she needed someone solid and uncontroversial, but not exciting nor revolutionary. Buttigieg, another minority, or another women would’ve all been exciting, but very risky because it would’ve been too much change at once. Shapiro was exciting, but I guess they think he carried risk as well. Kelly and Walz are similar in some ways, but an astronaut and ex Navy commander on the ticket would’ve added more excitement. I also liked Beshear better, and I think he’ll be president some day. Walz will be solid, and may be a good choice, but he isn’t exciting.
Exciting is subjective and in the eye of the beholder. Just because you don't find Walz exciting, it doesn't mean no one else will. Also, Buttigieg doesn't meet your criteria of having a hot wife.

It’s not an exciting choice. He’s not telegenic. I understand some of the logic, but it could cause her to lose some momentum. Does anyone know how well he debates?
See my last post in this thread. That was also my initial impression when I first saw what he looked like, that he was someone like Tim Kaine. But when I actually heard him talk it completely changed my impression. He's smart and assertive and he's going to connect with a lot of people.

I think Lapaz was looking more for a choice that was more moderate and would talk down or put progressive in their place within the Democratic party. I'm not sure Shapiro did that exactly, but he seemed more likely to do it than Walz. That's probably why he was hoping Shapiro. Shapiro is also younger and looks more the part of charismatic politician than Walz.
Your characterization of my desire is close. I would only quibble with the statement that I want to put progressives in their place. It’s not that I want to put them in their place, because I support a lot of progressive causes, but I recognize that independents and moderates are going to want that, and we need them to win.

Good points, and I didn’t realize he had won a state championship as a HS football coach. From a tweet.

Tim Walz is a:
- Veteran
- Former teacher
- State championship winning football coach
- Faculty advisor of the first gay-straight alliance at his school
- Gun owner
- Highest-ranking retired enlisted soldier ever to serve in Congress

Not to mention has more charisma in his earlobes than Vance has in his body. I can’t imagine a better choice for VP

Interesting if true. I would have gone with Kelly, but that’s just me.

I LOVE the pick

Walz is fiery guy, clever, and a track record of accomplishments.

I didn’t think he’d be the guy, I admit..but good move to motivate progressive vote IMO. Moderates alike should be excited. This guy gets shirte done.

You think Harris needed to motivate progressives? Wasn’t she supposedly the most liberal Senator? Why wouldn’t progressives already be motivated to vote for her, especially given her historic candidacy?

That is such spin bull crap.
He retired at 25 years in the National Guard. Compared to bone spurs who dodged the draft. He was running for congress and left then.

In spite of republicans calling her the most liberal senator ever, she is not that progressive/liberal. He is more progressive and has been responsible for passing legislation for Minnesota that is considered progressive.
My son goes to school in St. Paul and his friends love Walz and that is the energy needed to push swing states. If the youth vote shows up, it is game over for Trump.

That's certainly a thing. I've never understood why moderates and independents are so fearful of progressives to where they feel they have to constantly be put in their place, but so accepting of Republican extremism as to make them the default choice if Democrats don't acquiesce to their every desire.

Putting that aside though, I'm hopeful that the decency and straight talk of Walz will make the Harris/Walz ticket more appealing, hopeful and exciting to vote for than Trump/Vance ticket. I don't know how much it improves Harris's chances (nor do I know what effect Shapiro would have had on the ticket, none of us do), but I certainly don't think it will hurt them.

I still don’t think that Harris had a problem motivating progressives. Walz may be a better messenger for progressive causes, but is that going to attract more voters?

Finally, someone willing to ask the tough questions about Walz!

Purists don’t think tactically.
