Looks like the fight is on with Israeli soldiers and civilians amongst the dead already. Question becomes, how long before we get dragged into this?

I think they have collapsed one building for every Israeli citizen that was killed.

We overreacted to 911. Our reaction caused more harm than the terrorists.

Israel shouldn't make the same mistake we did.
Yes, we did. The invasion of Iraq was senseless and it cost the lives of 100s of1000s of Iraqi civilians.

It's not my response, it's a fact of life. This is as tragic a situation as you'll find and it's going to continue to become even more tragic.

Indeed. While I sympathize greatly with the Israeli citizens who have died, suffered and have been kidnapped because of Hamas' terrorist attack, I also sympathize with Palestinian citizens who now will die and suffer because of Israel's response.

I have a hard time feeling a great deal of support for either side given that both have shown/displayed genocidal desires and tendencies towards the other. Nothing good can come of this. As a person, I'm also just exhausted and depressed at the constant state of war, conflict and turmoil in the world. The last 8 years have been too much.

Maybe because NY or LA aren’t trying to move toward an authoritarian state?

TX has a corrupt AG, a Governor who treats people as political pawns, they are banning books, denying women bodily autonomy, want to monitor women’s travels to other states, limit the medical care parents and teens are allowed to have. All according to their own religious beliefs.

Any religious radical would feel right at home.

I know it’s a joke but you cannot compare the freedom you have in NY or CA to TX.
Then, it stands to reason, why would you send them to Texas? I mean, take them out of a bad situation and put them in another bad situation?

I don't disagree with any point you make. I'm just pointing out that this was so predictable. You poke a bear with a child at your side don't be surprised if the bear claws your child when it strikes back. There wasn't a doubt in my mind what Israel was going to do the minute I heard about Hamas's attack on Saturday.

Israel shouldn't be there. Everyone involved made a mistake. Britain made a mistake. The United Nations made a mistake. The United States made a mistake. Etc. But, there it is sitting on land that wasn't/isn't theirs. Because of that, and anti-semitism, Israel has been threatened over and over again from all directions. Couple that with the original threat, the Holocaust, that gave birth to it and you have a people that when endangered are going to come back at what's threatening them in spades.

Just trying to put them somewhere, in this joke, where they would recognize their surroundings.

Now admitting they were warned by Egypt, but chose to ignore it. Bibi should step down. Let cooler heads and people who aren’t mainly worried about staying out of jail and consolidating their own power lead the country. He is bad news.

Not to derail this thread any further, but living in Tx with family living in NY and California, I feel like I am in a great spot. This truly is as good a situation as one can find these days.

My view is that until we can secure our Southern border, Texas should be spared from taking in more immigrants. We should feel free to plant any Israelis or Palestinians somewhere else like NY or CA. Spread the wealth of immigrants.

This made me wonder - does TX really house more immigrants than CA or NY? 🤷‍♀️
    So I found this:

How many immigrants settled in California?

⊲ California is home to 10.5 million immigrants—23% of the foreign-born population nationwide. ⊲ In 2021, the most current year of data, 27% of California's population was foreign born, almost double the percentage in the rest of the country (14%) and the highest share of any state.

Aren't even most illegal immigrants visa overstays? I remember looking at this years ago, and being shocked at the number of people who came on a plane, and never left.

A bit more objectivity from Snyder.

Terror can be a weapon of the weak, designed to get the strong to use their strength against themselves. Terrorists know what they are going to do, and have an idea what will follow. They mean to create an emotional situation where self-destructive action seems like the urgent and only choice.

It is about half historically, but I suspect the last few years people crossing illegally have outpaced visa overstays by a good clip.

Yeah. I remembered reading some times ago by the largest group are overstay by euros and Canadians. Musk is one of them. Canadian passport.

I always thought that was the case. We get a lot of illegals crossing the border, but even more come in legally then overstay visas and never go back home. Happens all the time. I personally know several who overstayed and have been here 10-20 years.

The report released Wednesday by the Center for Migration Studies of New York finds that from 2016-2017, people who overstayed their visas accounted for 62 percent of the newly undocumented, while 38 percent had crossed a border illegally.

As I’ve been detailing since 2008, roughly half of all illegal immigrants come to the U.S. legally on various non-immigrant visas (NIV)—typically tourist visas (B1/B2)—and overstay them. But the breadth and scope of NIV abuse is likely much worse than that.
