I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

The email I posted shows Fauci acknowledging that Wuhan was doing gain of function research. We funded the Wuhan lab. A two year old article doesn't change what Fauci said in that email.

Fauci claimed that the US hadn't funded gain of research in Wuhan. He lied and got caught. It's as simple as that. The rest of his email doesn't change the fact that he admitted Wuhan was doing gain of function research.

If I pay a company to make widgets and someone else pays them to make gizmos, am I funding the production of gizmos?

The grant award to ECOHealth actually prevented funding of gain of function research in the writing. And an independent oversight board confirmed that what ECOHealth used the money for wasn't classified as gain of function research.
Are you referring to the HHS Office of Inspector General report? If so they didn't confirm that the money wasn't used for gain of function research. It was NIH that claimed that. ePPP is enhanced potential pandemic pathogens.

NIH determined that research under EcoHealth awards did not involve ePPP research, and as such, did not refer the proposed research to the HHS P3CO Committee for additional review.

Although NIH concluded the progress report identified virus growth that met certain benchmarks, EcoHealth’s inability to obtain scientific documentation from WIV limited NIH’s ability to assess EcoHealth’s position that it had notified NIH/NIAID of meeting certain benchmarks in the Year 4 progress report and possibly conclude whether the research involved ePPP.

Is it your misunderstanding that funding that is provided to a research lab goes into a general account that pays for all the research being done in that research lab?

I think this is why you are confused about what Fauci actually said. It can be true that some researchers in the Wuhan lab were doing gain of function research and also true that the US funding was not used to do gain of research in the Wuhan lab. Those are not mutually exclusive facts.

Fauci said the US was funding research in the lab, but not gain of function research. He also acknowledged that researchers were doing gain of function research in that lab, but that research was funded by someone who was not the US.

It's really not that hard to understand, unless you really don't want to understand it.

    wtf is wrong with people
A Florida family that allegedly formed a faux church and made over $1 million by falsely selling toxic industrial bleach as a miracle cure for HIV, cancer, COVID-19, and other diseases is now standing trial in Miami.

Got any context? 83 Rs voted against it too. There must be a reason. No, I will bet you don’t know anything about that amendment except what “Lee Fang” said. Will you now go look it up, since you are the one who brought it up? 🤷‍♀️

I did listen to the whole video despite deflecting claims otherwise. I've explained this to you already. I'm sure you understand. Fauci funded the Wuhan lab through the NIAID because he wasn't allowed to that research in the US due to the federal pause. When Covid hit Fauci was afraid of having Covid linked to him so they set out to claim it happened due to natural origin eventhough they said privately a lab leak was the most likely scenario. Fauci lied under oath claiming the US didn't fund gain of research in Wuhan. It turns out that we funded the lab that accidentally leaked Covid and created a worldwide pandemic. Are you surprised Fauci didn't want to be linked to that?
There isn't a conspiracy that supports your confirmation bias that you don't like is there.

First, the sars-cov virus that caused the pandemic isn't remotely close to the signature of any virus found in the lab. Further, the forensic and scientific studies found the market to be highly likely.

Second, gain of function is broad and some that would fall under that category is quite useful...some even lead to the vaccine that was developed. A group associated with bu mimic a sars-covid virus and studied how it can evade vaccines and our immune system. It is similar to what would be found in nature but can be categorized under gain of function. So don't try to be coy and label it all as some nefarious act. Some scientists even remarked that some of these gain of function studies wouldn't even be scrutinized had it been another virus. And even more complicated, some of these research may inadvertently create lethal virus contrary to how it was intended when it first started.

So you are now trying to pin a murder to fauci when the forensic showed that the bullet didn't even come from the lab.

So you are for the government forcing companies to hire people?

There is nothing stopping the airlines from rehiring them other than their own policy.

You wouldn't know authoritarianism if it jumped up and bit you in the arse.
Oh, he knows it, he’s actually in favor of a lot of it. He’s so far libertarian he wants to control what books people read, what medical care parents and doctors decide on for their children, what bathrooms folks can use. It’s a very special form of libertarianism.

Great, now a second Russian asset is parroting Kennedy’s lies.

Perhaps the schlitzbird known as Rand Paul can supply some of that information instead of shooting his mouth off. Perhaps but I doubt it.

I think this makes a great point to the “masks don’t work” crazies:

This sparked my memory of the time we had a Convo with el caliente about mandating/requiring vaccines.

Im actually pretty shirtty at dodging. I’m not the person you are painting. I believe they should all have a bed, and if they don’t, why should Joe, Donald, Nancy, or Lindsey be to blame? They aren’t the ones denying people service. They aren’t the ones turning people away for medical service.

Funny how he obfuscate politicians for bad policy choice then but can't help but jump on Biden for his. Team think, right?

To political for the EE vaccine thread
    ===========================

The political maelstrom swirling around coronavirus vaccines may be to blame for a higher rate of excess deaths among registered Republicans in Ohio and Florida during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a study published Monday.

The report in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine underscores the partisan divide over coronavirus vaccines that have saved lives but continued to roil American politics even as the pandemic has waned.

Yale University researchers found that registered Republicans had a higher rate of excess deaths than Democrats in the months following when vaccines became available for all adults in April 2021. The study does not directly attribute the deaths to covid-19. Instead, excess mortality refers to the overall rate of deaths exceeding what would be expected from historical trends.

The study examined the deaths of 538,139 people 25 years and older in Florida and Ohio, between January 2018 and December 2021, with researchers linking them to party registration records. Researchers found the excess death rate for Republicans and Democrats was about the same at the start of the pandemic in March 2020.

Both parties experienced a sharp but similar increase in excess deaths the following winter. But after April 2021, the gap in excess death rates emerged, with the rate for Republicans 7.7 percentage points higher than the rate for Democrats. For Republicans, that translated into a 43 percent increase in excess deaths.

Researchers said the gap in excess death rates was larger in counties with lower vaccination rates, and noted that the gap was primarily driven by voters in Ohio.

The results suggest that differences in vaccination attitudes and the uptake among Republican and Democratic voters “may have been factors in the severity and trajectory of the pandemic” in the United States…….

Public health officials fear mixed messaging on coronavirus vaccines by Republicans is shaping attitudes toward the vaccine in dangerous ways.

In a nationwide survey published in March by the University of South Florida, only 49 percent of Republicans said they were “very” or “somewhat confident” that coronavirus vaccines are safe, contrasted with 88 percent of Democrats.

Stephen R. Neely, a professor at USF’s School of Public Affairs who conducted the survey, said the Yale study was important because it highlighted how sharply partisanship over coronavirus vaccine safety and efficacy has led to unnecessary deaths.

“It’s one of the most telling metrics I’ve seen in how the politicization of the pandemic has played out in the real world,” Neely said……
