Didn't really see a place for this so I thought I would start a thread about all things LGBTQ since this is a pretty hot topic in our culture right now

    https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/17/sup...y-that-refuses-to-work-with-lgbt-couples.html

    • The Supreme Court on Thursday delivered a unanimous defeat to LGBT couples in a high-profile case over whether Philadelphia could refuse to contract with a Roman Catholic adoption agency that says its religious beliefs prevent it from working with same-sex foster parents.
    • Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in an opinion for a majority of the court that Philadelphia violated the First Amendment by refusing to contract with Catholic Social Services once it learned that the organization would not certify same-sex couples for adoption.

I will admit, I was hopeful for this decision by the SCOTUS but I was surprised by the unanimous decision.

While I don't think there is anything wrong, per se, with same sex couples adopting and raising children (I actually think it is a good thing as it not an abortion) but I also did not want to see the state force a religious institution to bend to a societal norm.

What makes his feelings more important than hers? I also have a hard time wondering why he would take any form of satisfaction in winning those titles? It has to be narcissisms?

Why walk around the locker room with the twig and berries out if you are 'woman'?

I am pretty sure he tanked the last one, like he did in that match that let another trans swimmer win.

Here are a few other article since you have to point out the original is from a very bad and not good news site that also parsed her letter...

    https://news.yahoo.com/virginia-tech-swimmer-publicly-blasts-195910087.html

    https://thevirginiastar.com/2022/03...ncaa-in-opposition-to-transgender-athletes-2/

I mean... I think every outlet reporting on it should print the letter in its entirety, regardless of my opinion of them as a news source. Better?

As for the rest of your baseless bullshirt, it's not even worth responding to. Much like the majority of what you post, it's complete trash and serves only to reinforce what everyone already knows.

What makes you think it’s about feelings and not about love of the sport in which she has spent her entire life participating? Those are your feelings that you are projecting in this case. Just like your stupidly laughable characterization that she walks around nude in the locker room. And your characterization that she “tanked” two races. Your hatefulness is showing badly, Farb.

As a trans person, she had to meet the requirements for trans competitors. You are the only one making this about feelings. Maybe you should quit this charade. You don’t care about anything except forcing people like her back into the shadows, where they won’t offend you with their very existence.
The 'love' of a sport is a feeling. What about the ladies that lost out in the sport they have loved their entire lives?
What makes you think I am offended. I could careless what someone wants to pretend to be. I only take exception when I am called out for participating in the charade.

I am hateful because I think it wrong for a biological male to beat women in womens sports?

Your conditioning to the narrative is showing.

No one has yet to explain to me why his participation takes precedence over the women's participation? Is is because a trans person is in a more protected class than a woman?

Why does his participation more important than a woman's participation in swimming?

Big difference between 'not responding to' and not being able to respond to an argument, especially when you argument is built entirely on feelings and emotions.

The complaint is that those requirements are not fair to the biological females, which should be very obvious.

Times get better, sure... but a 200+ place jump?

I'll reiterate: if Thomas would have gone from being ranked in the mid 200's in NCAA men's swimming to being ranked in the mid 200's in NCAA women's swimming, then ok. Even if Thomas got into the 100's, I'd still raise an eye brow, but ok. But from mid 200's to NCAA div1 champion? That's quite the jump.
So, you just arbitrarily decided that she improved too much? Do you think an athlete ever made such a jump before between their freshman and senior seasons? Or are you just so sure that it’s because of her transition and cannot be anything else? It seems to me you’re doing a lot of assuming about these things instead of trusting the governing bodies to do their best to make this as fair as they can for everyone.

I choose not to respond to your arguments because you are clearly biased and have zero interest in a productive conversation.

I am not wise by any means, but my experiences were different than your thousands, that is all.

I voted for Obama once, that does not make me a liberal.

What is a 'real' conservative? Do you mean 'fiscal' conservative? I just don't see a 'real conservative' being ok with teaching kindergarteners about trans and gender theory, IMO. There is a large difference between the Rhinos and the new republican party, that is for sure.
To me, the cowards are the ones that are afraid to stand up for their values and beliefs because of the fear of being shouted down and called 'bigot' or 'racist' because you don't believe the in alt-left radical push against reality. I know you disagree.
Yeah, good job Farb, and you'll probably be voting for Kamala Harris at least once too, and that will still not make you a liberal.

I'm quite fine with that you know. You don't have to be a liberal.

I'll be a liberal for you, so you don't have to.

    :)

So, in the context of the NCAA div 1, Thompson was indeed mediocre at best. Was Thomas ranked anywhere the top 10? Top 100? Top 200? I remember reading mid 200's, like 250th...
In her last year of competing on the mens team, her times were 4:18.72 in the 500 free, 8:55.75 in the 1000 free and 14:54.76 in the 1650 free.

For 2022, assuming she had gotten no better in the two years since (and had not undergone hormone therapy), that would place her at 71st in 500 free and 30th in 1650 free (I could not find 1000 free times). That’s hardly “mediocre” or “ranked mid-200s.”

If you look at the psych sheet (have no idea what that means) for 2022 that lists those invited, it’s even better: 48th in 500 free and 29th in 1650 free.
    What is blatantly incorrect?
That she was mediocre in swimming.

I found 1000 free times from when she was a freshman: 6th.

And from Sophomore year: 2 seconds faster, but ranked 7th.

Deal, you be the liberal and I will be the right wing nut job. I will bring the beer, you bring the pretzels!
Although, I doubt I would ever vote Kamala but if I do, you will know I am dead and I was not purged off the voter roles! LOL. Cheers!

    Good article
    ==================
Over the weekend, a photo of transgender swimmer Lia Thomas went viral. In it, a smiling Thomas stands on a podium, having won the 500-yard freestyle at the NCAA Division I Championship. Her opponents—all biologically female—stand together on the other end in what many interpret as a show of solidarity.

The photo was like a Rorschach test: To some, it symbolized a grave injustice to girls' and women's sports. For others, it represented a triumph for transgender acceptance and rights.

Unfortunately, no robust conversation is taking place between the two sides, because one of the sides is refusing to even debate this important issue. Too many activists on the Left have adopted a "no debate" mentality. This is not only undemocratic, but it is unhealthy for the movement for trans rights.

The Left must allow a robust debate over this issue, one that is brand new to many Americans and which presents real questions and conundrums. And LGBTQ activists should welcome it as a chance to once more change hearts and minds.

As a gay Appalachian, I am well aware that what I am asking is easier said than done. Asking people to engage with those they view as their oppressors is asking a lot, especially at a time when they are being vilified, as trans people are; this week, NBC News reported that across the country, nearly 240 anti-LGBTQ bills have been filed since January 1.

Actions such as Texas Governor Greg Abbott's directive for the state's Department of Family and Protective Services to investigate the parents of trans children for child abuse are clearly transphobic and cruelly discriminatory. To pretend otherwise is naïve at best.

But when it comes to trans women in sports, it's simply not fair to call everyone questioning the issue a bigot. Far from simply being anti-trans, many Americans believe there is a conflict of rights at play here, on a host of issues from women's single sex spaces to sports.

The conflicts are many and they are varied, including those between cis women and transgender women, between religious groups and LGBTQ rights organizations, between radical feminists who believe sex is immutable and gender oppressive and queer theorists who believe sex is changeable and gender an identity............

Rather than shutting down debate, this is the time when transgender activists should be making their case to the American people. This is the time to win hearts and minds.

After all, LGBTQ Americans have done this before. In 2004, a majority of Americans supported a Constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage. That was the year George W. Bush was reelected using gay marriage as a wedge issue. 11 states passed constitutional amendments banning same-sex marriage that year.

In my home state of Kentucky, I campaigned against our amendment, knocking on doors and engaging in difficult and uncomfortable conversations with voters who thought my right to marry would destroy the American family.

It wasn't fun, but it was necessary. And the work paid off: Less than 20 years later, 70 percent of Americans support same-sex marriage.

We did not accomplish that by refusing to debate these issues or vilifying those who disagreed with us. We did it by engaging with our opponents in good faith arguments, understanding that for many of them, this was a new issue, and recognizing the grace, humanity, and goodness in those with whom we disagreed.

We felt confident our arguments were not only right but just, and that we would one day prevail. And we did............

The whole 'don't tell anyone' reminds me of what the creepers in all the after school specials tell the kids they are molesting.

Why even have this for kids that age?

Edited to add the school webpage

    https://www.austinisd.org/calendar/events/2022/03/21/aisd-pride-week-2022

    The person who tweeted asked:

"What would a teacher be discussing during pride week that she’s worried the kids will tell their parents?"

That person didn't read the instructions for the event before Tweeting. It's a conversation circle, one of those times when the kids will be talking amoung themselves, not the teacher.

On Wednesday the students will be talking about their families. Asking for them to respect privacy of the other kids when they're talking about their families is quite reasonable.

You see this ominous danger everywhere you look when it comes to LGBTQ because of your religious indoctrination that informs you that LGBTQ people/issues are evil and satanic.

All that is, is respecting privacy in a small group setting when people are sharing personal accounts. Basically respect other peoples privacy and don't go spreading gossip. It's the same "agreement" you make when you participate in small church group discussions during retreats or other such events. Why is that such a bad lesson to teach students? It's not talking at all about discussing lesson plans or what's being taught.

I don't see any LGBTQ people as evil or satanic. LOL.

I just want to know why are kids this young being pressured into a pride parade at school? What lessons are teaching?

The instructions were changed after the public backlash. But again, why have circle discussion about LGTBQ issues in kindergarten? Again, creepy. It would be creepy if anyone wanted to have a sexual discussion with a 5 year old period. It is just wild that that is not a given these days. What is to gain, besides indoctrination?

That she was mediocre in swimming.

I could swear I read that Thomas was ranked 244th in NCAA men's swimming. But for the sake of the argument, I'll withdraw the alleged ranking - I'll try to figure out where I got that from - and I'll even call Thomas a very good swimmer, even though within the context of NCAA competition, Thomas is nothing extraordinary, which is what mediocre means, "nothing extraordinary". Unless you give any pejorative meaning to the word, of course.

So let's use the numbers you posted in the 500 free, since that is the championship Thomas won. We have a jump from 48th in the men's division to champion in the women's division, plus records broken along the way (and I don't believe Thomas holds any men's records).

That is quite the jump, and the reason it happened, is because the unfair advantage Thomas has over the biologicals Thomas swims against.

The numbers in the psych-sheet you posted, the fastest time in the 500 men's free in 2022 mens' div1 is 4:09.06. Thomas' best time was 4:18.72. All things being equal (i.e., assume none of the swimmers listed would do any better than their current posted times), can you make the claim that Thomas would've shaved almost 10 seconds off that time to become NCAA div 1 men's champion in 2022?

The unfair physical advantage Thomas has swimming against biological females is obvious. The NCAA rules, as they are, are unfair to biological females.

But, biological females are yesterday's news. Ben Watson is right.

    Sure.

I doubt those kids where pressured into anything considering Doss Elementary is in Austin. More than likely there are is a decent percentage of LGBTQ parents that have kids that go to that school and the school is just a reflection of the community that strongly supports the LGBTQ community, celebrates PRIDE and encourages diversity and acceptance.

Warms my heart to see such kindness and acceptance. Good thing to teach kids!
