I guess it's time to start a thread for this. We know that at least 140 members of Congress have pledged to join the objection. Under federal law, if at least one member of each house (HOR and Senate) objects, each house will adjourn the joint session for their own session (limited at two hours) to take up the objection. If both houses pass a resolution objecting to the EC result, further action can take place. If both houses do not (i.e. if one or neither passes a resolution), the objection is powerless and the college result is certified.

Clearly this is political theater as we know such a resolution will not pass the House, and there's good reason to think it wouldn't pass the Senate either (with or without the two senators from Georgia). The January 6 joint session is traditionally a ceremonial one. This one will not be.

Many traditional pillars of Republican support have condemned the plan as futile and damaging. Certainly the Trump loyalists don't care - and many are likely doing it for fundraising purposes or to carry weight with the fraction of their constituencies that think this is a good idea.

Trump is conceding. Playing on CNN.

(As much of a concession as he can muster)

I would love to see the unedited version of this insincere bs, you know he rambled on and on again about how the election was stolen from him more than once before he started reading again. I noticed at least two edit points during that speech.

Not really a concession but about as close as you will get to one with him. Feel like he was being threatened with the 25th if he doesn't make a speech.

Meh...he ain't have nothing to do with what was written...its devoid of any "manys", "bads", "tremendouses", and he didn't call it the "Kung Flu" or "red plague"...he just called it a pandemic. Its like making your son apologize after kicking his little brother, he didn't really mean any of it.

Edit: and I absolutely hate how he bobs and twists his shoulders like a 14 year old valley girl when he's at the podium. Its like he's a beta male's version of an alpha, cant get it for the life of my why so many "tough guys" think he's like them. To me, he's a little whiny girly man.

Jesus - that speech just made me angrier. Not because of the content of the speech - it was a good speech. It means he has been capable of this all along, and chose not to. This was the speech he should have given after the electoral college vote.

I award him no points, and may God have mercy on us all.

Yup, he couldn't even bring himself to say that yesterday that is how I know he doesn't mean a damn word of what he read.

Here my dumb arse was analyzing the video looking for subtle cuts, and boom they kick you in the face with an unnecessary angle change and what appeared to be a mid sentence snip for the 2nd cut...this is shameful, they all need to be ashamed of themselves.

This aint no speech he should've given because it's insincere as all hell and any dolt can see right through it. Fact is he should've never had to give this speech because he should've never been president in the first place to lose a re-election. I hope this country has learned its lesson.

...And he is full of shirt that he immediately deployed anything. He is the one that caused all this shirt. Him and his "lets walk to the capital! I'll be there with you!"
He can't help himself, he must lie every time he opens his trap.

I'm fairly certain he only did this because someone told him if he didn't they would invoke the 25th, or to help give him legal coverage for inciting a riot, or something like that. His remarks last night were how he really feels.

That being said, he did need to say this, so I'm glad someone forced him to do so.

Note that he said that there will be a new administration and a peaceful transition, but that's not very different from what Pompeo said a few months ago when he said there would be a peaceful transition to another Trump administration. He didn't say that Biden won and the new administration would be a Biden administration. I hear CNN saying it was a concession, but I don't think it was a true concession.

It's as much as you'll ever get from him.

It’s not a true and sincere concession, but then nothing about his personality signals he’s capable of that anyway.

My initial post was meant as a quick heads up in the appearance of the moment.
