I fear we are really going to be in a bad place due to the obvious cuts to the federal agencies that deal with infectious disease, but also the negative effect the Affordable Care act has had on non urban hospitals. Our front line defenses are ineffectual and our ability to treat the populous is probably at an all time low. Factor in the cost of healthcare and I can see our system crashing. What do you think about the politics of this virus?

I just watched his statement on it. He’s complaining about all the pork in the bill, and he’s right. They padded this thing like crazy and then short changed the American people. I wish he would have said something sooner, but what he’s saying is correct. Make the bill just about COVID and put the money in the hands of the American people.

He under played his hand. Had he preemptively talked about the 2k, he would have had a vast majority behind him.
But he wanted Rs to side w him first on election. When McConnell finally recognized Biden, that was it. So he waited until after the vote, but it may very well be too late. But in the public perception arena, where attention spans don't last long, he will keep front and center as long as he can.

    All eyez on me.

He’s leaving tomorrow for Mar A Lago. So even if they come in tomorrow and pass it, he’s gone. I don’t get why he waited so long. Well, actually i do, all he cares about is his election loss and crazy conspiracy theories. A real leader would have been shaping the bill all along. 🤷‍♀️

Oh great. I hope there’s some mechanism for him to sign something when it passes, otherwise it’s going to feel quite petty of him to be at his vacation spot instead of where he can get this relief passed. It would be one heckuva Trump of a move to immediately eliminate the goodwill you gain from trying to get higher amounts by not being able to sign it.

The President can sign a bill anywhere from my understanding. He doesn’t have to be in DC.

okay so last night I didn’t realize this, but it’s really two bills. I’m hearing this morning that what Trump was complaining about was the general funding stuff that will prevent a government shutdown. They evidently combined everything in the interest of time. And Congress is gone, although they are still technically in session. It seems like he conflated the two parts of the legislation, probably because he hasn’t been paying attention, imo.

I could be wrong, but I think the democrats had proposed $2k in the beginning. Not sure why anyone would doubt that they would support this. Mitch is the one who has to be fuming, along with other Rs like Paul. Mitch didn’t get his corporate liability waiver and he will have to give out $2k. (Assuming he caves).
From the $2.2 Trillion package the House passed in October...

    The Democratic bill would:

    • Reinstate the $600 per week enhanced unemployment benefit through January
    • Send a second $1,200 direct payment to most Americans
    • Give $436 billion in relief over one year to state and local governments
    • Authorize more money for a second round of Paycheck Protection Program loans for the hardest-hit businesses and industries
    • Send $25 billion to airlines to cover payroll costs
    • Inject $75 billion into Covid-19 testing and contact tracing efforts
    • Put $225 billion into education and $57 billion into child care
    • Set aside billions for rental and mortgage assistance

From the larger $3 Trillion bill in May...

The bill includes some changes to programs that were approved in the CARES Act, including an expansion of the IRS payment program. Democrats want more generous benefits for families, including a $1,200 payment for each dependent. The CARES Act limits payments to $500 per child; adults or other dependents do not currently qualify. The bill provides up to $6,000 per household.

It also expands funding for small-business loans, enhances an employee-retention tax credit program and boosts worker protections.

So, they never pushed for $2000/person, but they did push to increase the child credit.

This is exactly what's going on. All of the things he rattled off last night in that video were the GOP talking points on twitter for the past day or two. He's refusing to sign the bill for the reasons you listed earlier. This is the only way he can give McConnell a big middle finger. It is rather sad though that he didn't even know that everything he said in that video wasn't even part of the actual COVID bill. I can see super majorities passing this bill as is before actually increasing the payments to $2000. I'd like to be wrong and have them go for the $2000 as an amendment which the language has already been written to do. I just don't see it happening.

Look I'm not returning what I just ordered from Amazon so some one get it right.

Exactly, just hurry up and tell me which one I need to add to cart already

    So many possibilities. 2020-21-Renewals-Bowl-Pricing-Ranges.pdf (nba.com)

Seriously, for many people struggling, unemployed or underemployed, facing eviction, etc., even the smaller amount would be a help. Although some of us may not need the assistance, there are many who could certainly use any kind of boost. At the very least, the artificial boon to the economy should be substantial regardless of whether the final figure is $600 per person or more.

Even a blind squirrel can find a nut now and then.

He is wrong about most of what he said, per usual he either lacks understanding or assumes his followers do (more likely).

But, he is right about the $600 per person being too low. But where was this leadership the last few months?

It just comes off as being a road block to getting something.

I know there was at least one attempt at $2000 at some point over these past months, I saw a tweet yesterday from the congressman who tried to get it done. If I see it again, I will link it.

lap dog Lindsey is in, but I don’t see how some others will support it.

Graham is not really on board, he is tying his "support" to repealing Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act to allow Trump, Devin Nunes, and other Republicans to sue Twitter when someone tweets something mean about them. What that has to do with financial relief is a mystery.
