    The football board had the very useful Daily Trump Tracker thread, which was a good place to briefly discuss the latest ridiculous thing that might have ended 97% of prior Presidential administrations even if it didn't necessarily justify an entire thread devoted to it in 2017-2019 (because of the sheer volume of these things). Since I don't see anything like that here already, I'll add one myself.

    I worked in IT in the government. I can assure you that at least at my agency there are audit trails for all applications (no audit trails = cannot deploy to production). The OIG or their contractors require evidence of and samples of audit trails every audit cycle. This applies to backups and handling/administration of backups as well (which are done at a minimum daily with some done close to real time or a few hours).

    I really believe the Trump admin would not want to go down the path of deliberately destroying data, there are simply too many safeguards for them to understand how to even go about it....

    Yeah, it's possible, but stupid difficult to get away with. I'm not really too worried about that.

    My bigger worry is actually securing highly classified materials and making sure that doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

    Sort of. It technically doesn't stop anything. But they can't just erase evidence from the records. Deleting it doesn't do much of anything. There is a data trail that is left behind and is not really lost in a sense. The discussion was more about whether the people Trump were bringing in were trying to limit access to information. But any of that information that is stored digitally cannot just be easily removed.

    I was just posing the concern that highly classified information could potentially be spilled or shared with people not authorized to see or possess it. That is a far higher risk than it being deleted. Different issue but a similar type of concern.

    Fwiw, this is simply speculation on what could potentially happen. Not saying this has or is happening.
