This election nonsense by Trump may end up splitting up the Republican Party. I just don’t see how the one third (?) who are principled conservatives can stay in the same party with Trump sycophants who are willing to sign onto the TX Supreme Court case.

We also saw the alt right types chanting “destroy the GOP” in Washington today because they didn’t keep Trump in power. I think the Q types will also hold the same ill will toward the traditional Republican Party. In fact its quite possible that all the voters who are really in a Trump personality cult will also blame the GOP for his loss. It’s only a matter of time IMO before Trump himself gets around to blaming the GOP.

There is some discussion of this on Twitter. What do you all think?

Moderate Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) said she has “considered” the possibility of switching to the Senate Democratic caucus when asked about it, but she doesn’t see Democrats as being much better than Republicans and has some major policy disagreements with her colleagues on the other side of the aisle.

Murkowski, a pivotal vote on the Republican megabill expected to come to the Senate floor this week, is opening up about her frustrations with the two-party system and acknowledged in a recent podcast that that she may explore the possibility of becoming an independent who aligns with Democrats on major bills.

“I would be not being honest with you if I said I’ve never been asked … ‘Why don’t you switch?’ Or people have said, ‘You should switch,’” Murkowski told Semafor in a recent interview ahead of her new book, “Far from Home: An Alaskan Senator Faces the Extreme Climate of Washington, D.C.”

Murkowksi said she has “considered” switching to the Democratic Party when asked about it but doesn’t appear close to pulling the trigger on such a dramatic move, which could shake up the balance of power on Capitol Hill.

“Have I considered it? Yes, because I’ve been asked the question,” she said.

Murkowski acknowledged she sometimes doesn’t feel comfortable in the Republican Party.

“Do I feel that within my Republican conference, I always feel like I’m right here in my political home? No. There’s some directions and policies that I disagree with,” she told Semafor, but emphasized that her political outlook generally aligns “more closely” with the GOP................

I say this in jest and only in jest. It's easier for a Democrat to switch to the Republican party than it is for a Republican to switch to the Democratic party. Just like it's easier for a Jedi to switch to the Sith than it is for a Sith to switch to the Jedi. Breaking worse is always easier than breaking better.

I suggest Katherine Stewart’s Lies, Money and God: Inside the Movement to Destroy American Democracy.

Imo, the key is that the tired, old, saw about “small government” is exposed. The Republican Party does not want small government nor do they want to destroy government although they want to destroy democracy. They want to change government to a combination of privatization, corporatization and an intense surveillance state based upon religionism.

This administration has moved long past their simple contempt of Congress, they are demonstrating that they have ZERO respect for the Legislative Branch of Government. It is not even a speed bump to them, its a bug on the highway facing an on coming 18-wheeler.

Less than 48 hours until my flight.
Just hanging out this morning and I came across this.
Maybe it will interest some of you...

The White House is working to adopt policies to allow Americans to have more babies, even as it cuts back on federally funded day care.

That’s because they want a stronger family unit, which they argue comes from one parent staying home.

White House staffers have discussed several options for encouraging parents to stay home with their children, three people who have been part of the discussions told The New York Times.

Ideas being discussed include giving families more money for each child they have, removing federal tax credits for day care, and opening up federal lands for home construction. Advocates argue that if families can spend less on housing, more of them will be able to live on a single income.…….

Hungary proves this just won’t work.

I still think Trumpism falls apart without Trump until a true Trump 2.0 successor is found with I believe won’t be for awhile
    ===================

Vice President JD Vance has surged as a clear frontrunner in early polling for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination, according to a new Emerson College survey.

Vance leads the 2028 GOP field with 46 percent support, far ahead of Marco Rubio’s 12 percent and Ron DeSantis' 9 percent.

Independent Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. garnered 5 percent support, while Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley each earned 2 percent.……..

Vance has the personality of a couch. Pun very much intended :)

Fortunately the odds of a sitting Vice President being elected are historically slim.

That’s not particularly comforting. What odds were given to Trump in 2015?

Vance will have a host of tech billionaires boosting his chances. He is their property.

The issue is that cults centered around an individual are devoted to that individual. They are not devoted to ideas, values or philosophies, they are devoted solely to the personality. Sure, the leader of the cult spews bullshirt ideas, values and philosophies, but the thing the leader says is only important to the devotees because they are said by the leader. That's why the cult leader can contradict themselves constantly without any of their devotees questioning them.

Tyrant Trump's cult is a cult of personality devoted to him and only him. When Trump goes, so goes his cult. No one will be able to step in as the new leader of the cult, no matter how charismatic they are. People can speak and act the same way Trump did, but Trump's cult will not follow them. They can build their own cult and they can con some of tyrant Trump's lost devotees into following them, but they will have to work at it. It will not be a "the queen is dead, long live the queen" situation.

Usually when a cult of personalty leader falls, several people compete to take over the cult which leads to the cult splintering into fighting groups until they marginalize themselves and fade away.

You also said that there's no way Trump would do Project 2025 and he's doing exactly that. I've come to learn that you say the opposite of what the truth is about what you want to happen or you think will happen. In my observation, your statement means that you hope Vance wins and/or think he will win.

The same billionaires that helped put Trump in power will be backing Vance or whoever else wins the Republican nomination, so they will have all of the advantages Trump did.

The billionaires will make sure that whoever they own and control will run as themselves instead of as an extension of Trump. Also, there is no logical or accurate way to set future odds based on prior outcomes when it comes to an election. Elections are one of the most complicated and complex human system that there is, which makes it completely unpredictable and impossible to determine probabilities. People guess lucky from time to time, but it's just a lucky guess.
